I knew who Geraldine was before I actually met her a few months ago. I mean I knew her name because fellow photo enthusiast such as Av8tr & Loso had posted pics of her and raved about how much she looked like a young Demi Moore (as in Blame it on Rio). In fact when I first met Geraldine I did ask her name even though I already knew it. She answered in English "My name is Demi Moore" and she started to walk away. I managed to quickly get her to allow me a few outdoor pics (which I posted a few months ago) but that was all. A bit of a snob I thought and although I saw her several more times that trip, I never spoke to her again til this latest trip.

I never cared for Demi Moore personally, so I didn't care that she did have a striking resemblence to her. The funny thing as well is that on this trip I thought she looked a lot less like Demi moore for some reason than just a few months before.

Anyway, I did happen to see Geraldine at the Mansion early on this trip but again just in passing and didn't even say hi or get a hello from her. I also saw her at a private party on my last Saturday in Medellin and still not once did we utter so much as a "Hey" and a head nod.
So I wasn't even thinking of Geraldine the next day when I was crossing Ave Poblado from the Juan Valdez side to start up the street (Loma de Alejandria) when Geraldine jumps off a bus and starts up the hill as well. She smiles and waves hello and crosses over to my side and we start the walk up hill together.

"Como estas" she says & I tell her fine and ask if she enjoyed herself the night before. She says she did and slept most of the day to recover. Yes it was already early Sunday evening and only 7 out of the 10 girls invited this Sunday by Robert showed up for the pool party which really was not much of a party. I watch her and wonder why someone hasn't snatched her up.

Funny thing about Geraldine is that she was working the strip at Mayorista just last year. In fact the very night before after the Saturday party I had gone to Mango's for Mardi Gras night then later that night I headed to Mayorista.

There I happened across a girl name Sarah and had a decent session with her. Sarah asked me if I was staying at the Mansion. Yes I told her. "My friend Geraldine works there" Sarah said. Well the next day was Monday and I was leaving that afternoon on the 3:40pm American flight. I had intended on just waking up late without and last session and then heading to the airport.

However, before Geraldine left I asked if she wanted to come back in the morning (I don't do overnighters). She said sure and she agreed to 11:00am.

The next morning Geraldine was a bit late but she did show up with plenty of time to spare. She said she had woke up late again and apologized. We had another memorable session albeit a much shorter amount of time than the night before but still had a good time together.

Afterward, Geraldine helped me with my bags to the front door and then we kissed good bye. She smiled sweetly and turned to go out to the patio. Hector the taxi driver was waiting and I said goodbye to Marcy with a hug and was on my way to the airport with another monger sharing a ride.

To be honest, once out the Mansion door, I didn't give Geraldine another thought until today when I looked through my second Sand Disk of pictures and came across Geraldine's pictures.

I guess even an old hardened monger like myself has a soft spot somewhere deep down because I kinda wish I hadn't taken any pictures of Geraldine to remind me of her.

When I was in Medellin for a month last June, Geraldine fell in love with my Cuban friend that was with me. She'd come by our apartment just to hang out which was cool... Professional studio photographers do not use direct flash to illuminate a subject indoors, because the results are harsh, unnatural and unattractive.

Most, if not all, cameras designed for amateurs have a built-in flash which blasts light directly at the subject, creating the kind of "deer in the headlights" effect.

For those using a digital SLR with a hot shoe, the addition of a flash unit for a bouncing flash will eliminate this harshness and give your pictures a professional look.

I personally use a Nikon D50 with a Nikon SB28 Speed light. There are other larger and more complicated speed lights but this one is lighter than the others and less bulky.

Another solution is a device called a Lightscoop, which allows the pop up flash on most SLR cameras to bounce off a ceiling. The limitations, however, are that a sidewards vertical shot will not be as bright unless a lightly colored wall/or a mirror is nearby. Also if the ceiling is rather high the intensity will not be as great and leave you with darker images.

Nikon came out with a small speed flash SB400 which I do have but seldom use. It is only best used for vertical shots because it does not pivot. You can use a flash extender but it can be awkward to hold the flash in one hand and the camera in the other.

Overall I think the pivoting Speed Lights are best to use. With a speed light you have better control of the brightness of the bounced flash in horizontal or vertical shots because the flash allows you to pivot the angle of the flash.

Outdoor photography is totally different animal. Filters, reflectors, shading and yes even flashes are used. Personally, I have less appreciation for my own outside shooting than indoors.

Here I am hijacking your thread again, but I know you're like me, and actually appreciate it, or I wouldn't do it.

You just described Geraldine perfectly. she has become a pretty good friend of mine, which is very unusual for me with these girls. I liked her so much, I was instrumental in helping her get "on the books" at the Mansion. I went to her home in Bellos, and helped her look and find her cedula. We emailed several months ago. I finally booked a trip to the Medellin Mansion, 4-26to 5-1. I talked with Marcy and Boyd, great people.
This will be my first mongering experience. I have a few questions if you have the time.

How much cash, US, should I have with me when I arrive at the Medellin Airport? Will I be able to exchange to Pesos at the airport at 9:00PM Monday night? Where do I exchange Pesos to US dollars when I leave the airport 7:00 AM on Saturday? Should I take a cab to the Mansion or request a pickup (9:00pm on Monday)? How do I get into the Mansion, on arrival, after hours if by cab? Now that I think about it this last question is probablly stupid LOL.

I'd suggest starting a new thread in the chat section, but you should search around the forum first because most of your questions have already been answered. Look under "Topics"

You should request a pickup from the airport. call Marcy; she'll set you up. That way, you won't have to worry about exchanging money since those drivers work for the Mansion. they can stop someplace and help you get cash. you should use an ATM in colombia, not cash. Exchanging is difficult.
