I'm planiing on a trip to Nairobi in (probably) late April, and have a few days to go mongering before I meet up with my brother and his family.

I've travelled to Rio (de Janerio) and few quick trips to other places. SO i know the usual about safety.

I've read the discussions about kenya, but they are 2-9 years old. I realize the HIV rates in Kenya are huge, and will be safe, but want to have some fun...

I don't need an expessive hotel, in fact, prefer youth hostels and cheaper hotels because the people you meet there can direct you to good authentic food and activities. I'm considering Hartebeest Camp as a hotel, as if i'm gettinga short stay hotel for the girls, why spend more money? Would it be better to get a more isolated hotel and bring the girls to it, or have a home base hotel and rent short stay hotels?

Hotels? Best pick up places?

Any advice for 2013?

This were the places I stayed at in NBO:

Terminal hotel: my first place. OK if in a shoestring but will not choose to stay there again, one roach per room is my limit. The first room I stayed at was oK, the second (I stayed at a friends for a few days) was worst. Has warm/hot water at certain times of day. About 1000K/day.

Embassy hotel: a block or so from Terminal. For 300-400 K more a better/cleaner room, still pretty basic but definetely better. I would choose this place over the Terminal any day.

Is like a local african biz hotel,not too far from the action but a good walk in CBD. A bit of a rough look neighborhood but a nice clean and safe hotel. Not cheap by local standards but cheap for the westerner in NBO.

YOu can go either way with your plan. I prefer a hotel and you will not get any hassle about bringing in girls.

You can find cheap hotels around the CBD, close to Simmers and other bars easily enough. Cheaper than Terminal but way more basic with the bathroom likely having a bucket for showers. A bit more rought than TJ style but certainly good enough for shagging. I used a couple before without any major issues.

I travelled to Kenya in may 2013, but didn't spend enough time to have a good trip report. Actually, I doubt I would write a good report no matter how long I was there.

I spent about 24 hours on planes or in airports before arriving in Nairobi. I picked up my luggage and was called over by customs. The customs guy looked through my luggage for about 15 seconds, while asking me if I had anything illegal. He said he agreed with me, he doesn't think I have anything illegal, but because we are friends, why don't I buy him a cup of coffee. He clarified why don't I buy it here (in the room), because there are cameras out there (in the main area), I threw down a couple of dollars, and he looked at it and said coffee is very expensive here. I said not that expensive, and walked out.

The exchange rate is roughly KES8000=US$100. The Hartebeest Camp, where I stayed was too far outside the city center, safer, but isolated. I landed and paid KES2000 for a cab to the hotel - it would be about the same to the city center. I took a shower and set out to the florida club (also called madhouse, new florida, or Florida 2000) in the city center. It was a Sunday night and I arrived at the club around 10pm, it was pretty dead, and wasn't really busy this rainy Sunday. The few women there asked for drinks, and I bought a few, most were around US$3 to US$5. And the women said it's a lot busier on Friday and Saturday, but this day even at midnight still wasn't more than 30 women, and 20 men. The women were aggressive, and several times I had to say either it was nice meeting you (and dismiss them) or Thank you, i'm going to walk around. I had one continue to hang on, and was waiting outside the bathroom to re-engage me, when I ducked in there.

I saw a chubby, but pretty Arabic women with a Ethiopian friend, and approached her. I don't remember her name, but we had a few drinks and she kept deep kissing me - I was sold. We started negotiations, and she wanted US$100, I said no and started to walk away. She asked how much and I said there are girls here for KES1000 (about US)$12.50, she agreed there are, but not her. after haggling for a little longer we settled on KES5000 (US$62.50), it seemed a bit higher than what a Kenyan was worth, but it was my first day. I had heard the short stay hotels around the Florida club are more expensive, so we hired a taxi to take us to a short stay hotel down the street from the Nairobi national museum- the short stay cost KES1000 (I don't remember the name, but something like Green forest lodge). She showered briefly, and dimmed the lights, but even in the dim light, she went from chubby to fat with her clothes off. She hadn't shaved in more than a few days, and I found it disgusting. It wasn't she didn't shave, it's she had 5 days growth on her legs and pubes. Looked like she didn't take care of herself...

She started a CBJ while I was standing up, and then laid back on the bed and wanted to go Mis. I started and after awhile, I had to reposition to doggie - Nairobi is a mile high city and the elevation can leave you short of breath, if you are not used to it.
