I'm sure you guys know that Singapore airlines' now has a new class of service called Executive Economy on their new non-stop from LA or NEWARK -Singapore on their state of the art Airbus A345 Jets. During the peak season, the prices and seats are comparable to EVA Deluxe, but I thought I'd share my recent experiences flying on both of them. (Although I did not actually sit in their new Executive Economy seat, I actually used miles to upgrade to their incredible Biz class sleeper seats, but I did examine the seats during and after the flights and spoke with some people who sat in them afterwards)
COMPARISONS:
COSTS:
SIA: About $1100-$1350.00 Executive economy
EVA: High Season $1100-$1200.00, low season, $800-$900.
SEATS: SIA & EVA have the SAME PITCH 37 INCHES, and 20 inches wide. SIA seats are leather, newer, have more reclining positions. SIA had laptop computer outlets.
ENTERTAINMENT:
SIA: No Airlines I flew can surpass Singapore's system. All seats had its own personal monitor. They had 90+ channels of "On-Demand" movies (30), documentaries, TV Shows, kids shows, etc. Plus, they had Nintendto.
EVA: All seats have their own personal monitor. EVA has an older system and I think about 6 or 7 English channels worth watching of movies, etc. All the other channels were Chinese variety shows, soap operas, etc.
PILOTS:
Both airlines have outstanding pilots based on my experience with landings and takeoffs. One SIA 777, however, had to do a "missed runway" return approach to BKK. Both airlines are very punctual.
STEWARDESSES:
SIA: deliberately puts in 2-3 stunners on each flight, check out one of the Stew pics on my recent July 04 report. The Stews seemed to hover over you to make sure your glass was always full and that you didn't need anything. The gals also speak with a cute British-type accent.
EVA: The Stews are slender, cute and helpful, but those ugly green uniforms have to go. English abilities are decent, but not good.
LENGTH TRAVEL:
SIA: 18 hrs NON-stop to Singapore, 4 hour layover, 2 hours to BKK. TOTAL: 24 HOURS
EVA: 14 HRS TAIPEI, 2.5 HR LAYOVER, 3.5 HR BKK:
20 HOURS
FOOD: SIA ran circles around EVA in terms of the quality and variety of food.
ROUTES:
SIA: Singapore Airlines, and it's sister airline, Silkair, can get you to all the Monger destinations.
EVA: Eva has a fairly varied routing to all the great Asian monger destinations such as BKK, Macau, Phnom Penh, etc.
All in all, both these airlines offers up a great service.
