I have not flown Singapore, but, OMG

Biz Class
First Class
They say that SFO-SIN starts this month. I don't know how much but I would guess it's a very pretty penny.
Khun Mor, will you volunteer to research this?

Damned, 30" wide seats on Biz class -- seems ideal for the "mile high" clubbers. I bet you could comfortably seat two spinners w/you and claim them as your "lapchildren". I flew the 777-300 economy a few times and the economy seats are comfortable, one of the best entertainment systems around. Also had a Biz sleeper seat on the A340 one time, one of the best flight experiences.

The seat widths are very good. The seat pitches, especially for business class, are lame (e.g, Delta is 60", JAL 62" (last I heard), NW around 60", AA 62" (usually) etc.), although I suppose if they configure things right they may be able to make it comfortable, particularly if they can manage to get the seats to lie flat for sleeping notwithstanding the seat pitch.

I flew SQ from SFO to ICN on the standard triple 7 in coach (Star Alliance was not allowing UA miles to upgrade seats on SQ then) and was pleasantly surprised at the legroom and pitch in economy; far better than UA's Economy Plus.
I don't mind fliying to SIN to accrue miles, but damn the pussy is expensive down in the Geylang!
I have never really cared too much about pitch. It has always been about width to me. If I had to choose between 19.5" wide and a pitch of 72" verses 30" wide and a pitch of 40", gimme WIDE
. After 30" wide, I would start looking at pitch. Since First and Biz both have a 1-2-1 layout, I think that the wider First seat was a marketing decision. I bet that the biz seats could have been as wide but product differentiation demanded that biz be smaller that first. I also bet they could of fit a 2-1-2 layout but the product design specified that all biz seats have direct isle access.
Now this is from the perspective of a passenger of... *** cough cough *** size. Skinny mofos may be perfectly happy with narrow seats. I think SQ was thinking about space for bizmen to work and that the type of passenger who buys a biz seat is generally not a skinny mofo. While I am no longer a passenger that Southwest requires to purchase 2 seats (yippee... still a long way to go though...) I still favor SQ's approach.
me thinks I should lay off the formating

Yeah, seat width is impt. UA ecnomy plus gives you extra pitch w/same seat width, but I'm still uncomfortable.
As for Singapore, I was there a few days ago and some cute girls. The Thai and Indonesia girls on the streets in Geylang were asking for 40SD (about $28?) for 30 min ST, which isn't bad. There were some doables.

Does the 40SD apply to white guys?

On a six hour layover from BKK -JFK- IAD, I paid 80SD for 30min for a wide-eyed Thai lass in one of the houses on Lorong 18. While pounding her mercilessly DOGGIE style (tip o' the hat to Murasaki) and fingering her bunghole, she looked back at me and asked sweetly, "You want backside?"
Damn right I did, and she offered it up for and additional 20SD. So without any pause or additional lubricant I slid into her bunghole and did my best to puncture her spleen...
Like I said Singapore pussy is too expensive...giggle!

On United, if you try to get a little more legroom by getting an exit row you lose an inch in seat width as they put the video in the seat arms. I flew SQ about 6 months ago in coach and it was great. I'm flying United in Business IAD-NRT-BKK this week and it will probably not be as nice as coach on SQ.

Unfortunately, of all the U.S. carriers, United has the worst business class seats on international flights. 55" seat pitch and narrow.
By the way, while I'm sure many of you know about this, www.seatguru.com has information about seat configurations (and desirable/undesirable seats) for a large number of airlines.

Snooky, I just did the UA IAD-NRT-BKK route a few weeks back in the mid-ships exit row and had fantatsic legroom. However, as has been noted, the seat width sux and the seat didn't recline enough. I didn't go business as usual because I had a newbie in tow who had no MP miles and I figured row 30 would be as good as Business Class...WRONG! Worst damn flight of my life...
Merlin, you were definitely getting the local quotes in Geylang. All my quotes were double that.
1-2-1 in first class sucks !
Singapore air is way too expensive to even consider checking out first class - especially if I have to sit next to someone. I'll stick to China Air's 1-1 config for half the price !!
Too bad you don't fly United enough to get those FF miles you can cash in on Singapore. I don't blame you, flying UA to BKK is torture in coach, barely tolerable (even for me) in biz class--first would probably not meet your standards.
But I think I get most of my miles through a credit card, plus some of their promotions (I just got a 25K miles bonus plus 9K miles for spending $900 on their idine restaurants--included was some good food).
Are China Air seats wider than 35"???
I forgot my tape measure last flight.
I'm sure it's less than 35" which is an ungodly wide seat for any airline. If they pack 4 seats that wide per aisle in a 777 you're still going to be right up close and personal with your neighbor.
On CI my neighbor is on the other side of the plane and the seat is more than wide enough for my delicate frame !! I'm sure Sing has better service and food as it's always the # 1 rated commercial airline in the world but at almost double the price -- No Thanks .
I see the disconnect. It is 4 seats across the whole plane. SQ is UNGODLY expensive though. What really caught my attention was a 30" biz seat.
