Continental will begin outfitting lie-flat seats in the premium sections of its long-haul fleet next year. The seats recline to a flat 180 degrees.
The B-777's will be the first outfitted in fall of 2009, and some of the 757 fleet will also receive them, probably early 2010. The new 787 should arrive on property 2010 with them already installed.

Both Continental and Northwest need to get with the times as far as 180 seats. I'm sure its costing them a lot in that market segment.

Laguy,

Continental flies 757's over the Atlantic???

Continental started the whole 757-over-the-Atlantic rage, and a sad day it was. Now Delta, United and US Air all fly 757s on secondary European routes.
757s are great for transcons, but there's a big difference between 4.5-6 hours on a plane and 7-9 hours. I'm sure many wouldn't mind but I would never book a trans-Atlantic on a plane that small. I guess it's no difference than in the old days, flying 707s and DC-8s - the 757 has the same fuselage dimensions as a 707 - but of course back then planes weren't packed in as bad and the shitty seat pitches weren't nearly as close.

To be fair, I got in the front of one of Continental's TATL Business First equipped 757's when they were ferrying it domestically back to IAH. For a 757 the Business First cabin was actually pretty damn nice. Not even slightly like a domestic 757 first cabin. And that was with the old seats. More like upstairs on a 747 or something. I could stand to travel that way.

Well let's see. The options for South America in Business class are: American flat but not quite parallel to the ground beds on their 767's, completely or almost completely outfitted; United, flat and parallel to the ground seats on 767's, almost completed; LAN: flat and parallel to the ground on can't remember which planes all equipped this way; Delta, rumor has it is going to install flat and parallel to the ground on their 767s but not done yet; TAM, almost flat extremely comfortable seats (actually flat except the leg rest tapers down a bit) with a huge amount of room separating each row; and Continental, doesn't give a rats' ass seats on their 767s to South America.
Hmmmm, I wonder who is not going to fly Continental. And I suspect I'm not the only one.

Laguy,
I am going to send you a copy of The High and The Mighty to view, maybe this will have the desired affect.

CFK,
I'm pissed at Continental!! A month ago I found a cheap fare to Rio costing $870. On their site it said only one seat was left at this price. I found out why. I was sitting in a D seat which is a center aisle seat. Seats E,F,J & K were occupied by a family of five. That's right, five in four seats. You see one of the little bastards was a one year old sitting on his mom's lap.
Little Johnny, a precocious six year old, was right next to me with his older seven year old sister next to him. He never shut up till he fell asleep. He must have that "Restless Leg Syndrome" that they talk so much about on TV. All I know is the little guy kicked me all night long. Then to add insult to injury, when he woke up he wanted to play a video game against me. I figured I would beat the shit out of him, but, like always, I was dead wrong. All in all, it was my most miserable trip yet.

Jag,
I'm going to tell you what I have told thousands and thousands over the years:
"And thanks for flying Continental Airlines"...
As to your game skills you knew you should have asked for a handicap BEFORE going into that game, clearly that kid was a ringer; and as far as being treated to the domestic family experience it simply enabled your Rio experiences to be appreciated that much more.......

Jag,
the next time a family sits next to you on plane and puts the kids next to you, ask the kid in a loud voice if he likes gladiator movies. Or if he's ever seen a grown man naked. Chances are, they'll move the kid.
Also, if you're stuck on Southwest or some cheap airline that doesn't do seat assignments, after you board blow your nose and put the used tissue snot-side up on the seat next to you. That tends to ensure that that particular middle seat will remain empty.
