I've been thinking about going to Brazil next year with a friend of mine but he is concerned about the price. Air Canada charges around 1000$ for a 2 way plane ticket. Expedia.ca prices seem to be similar, so I was wondering if anyone had already done it and had any info on how to do it for cheap so we can save as much money as possible for when we get there. I was reading something about driving to New York and taking the plane there as apparently it is cheaper; any truth to this?
Also, when is the best to time go(cheapest for both airplane ticket as well as maybe a time of the year when there are less tourists and the girls charge less maybe)?
Thanks for the replies!

Prices will go up toward the end of the year and next January and February will be crazy pricewise. Now is probably an alright time, although there are several new flights coming on line soon that should bring prices down. New York should be a LITTLE cheaper because there is a lot of competition at that those airports for Brazil traffic. However, $1000 on Air Canada sounds pretty good to me.
