OK I admit to be technology challenged but this BB Tour model is designed to make a baby boomer insane. Can somebody please tell me how to retrieve my text messages on this thing?

click on the SMS and MMS icon?

If you don't see them, you may not have any or may not be receiving them-- did you try sending an SMS message to a friend to make sure the service is working? If it's not (and your paying for SMS), pull the battery, reboot, try again.
