Duracell copper tops...
Load up on them?
Looking for small appliances to raid for AA batteries this PM, I found the old BRICK camera I haven't used in at least 15 months, full of 4 of the above-named Duracells. They were replacing a green rechargeable Duracell whose charger has been kaput for going on 2 years now...
Plugged it in, and shows nearly fully charged?
On the opposite end, I have been unlucky enough to purchase ANY sort of batteries in the Philippines, and even the highest priced ones I have bought there (Duracell/eveready) have gone horribly dead within a week...

It is not uncommon for something such as a cell phone or battery to show a full charge, but once a load is applied experience a quick depletion. No recent charge, and 15 months of non-use, would probably allow for only brief usage before failure. Best to replace.

Usually there is a date on the Duracell or Energizer batteries; the expiration date basically. Of course you want the freshest - but maybe they were stored in a 103 degree environment and lost their strength. I would go to SM Market because their inventory turnover is probably much quicker than some of the mom and pops.
If you were in the USA - Costco is the best place to get consumer batteries.
