The Audacity of Indifference

One thing about America is that everyone seems so indifferent to everyone else's personal situation. While you may or may not have a job...you may or may not be well off...there are 20 million Americans out there who are suffering and hurting. Beyond those 20 million Americans there are millions more who are slaving away in jobs they dont want to be in or maybe they are afraid their job will be gone in the morning.

This video really sums it up. The White House seems so indifferent about the situation. No one seems to really care on Capital Hill. I know one thing and that is Mitt Romney will fight for us if he is elected.

Mitt Romney, the wealthiest of all the potential candidates, doesn't give two shits about you, me, or the common American. He's Bush without the fake Texas accent. He's running at the behest of wealthy Wall Streeters like himself. He'll fight for "us?" Give me a fucking break!

^what he said. I agree

Beyond the fact that Mitt is a member of a fucking lunatic religious cult, and was born with a silver spoon in his mouth to boot, how is he any better as a candidate than any other generic country club Republican? He'll be lucky to get the Republican nomination and if he does, he stands no chance in the general election.

How might Ron Paul fare for the "common man"? Seems the libertarian platform of the Republican caucas is catching a bit of intrest from weary non enthusatic voters that are demanding some sort of pro active downsized agenda.

It is hilarious how Romney is almost incapable of saying a sentence without uttering the words "Ronald Reagan." Much like Guliani and "911."

What is hilarious about this (among other things) is at about the same point in Reagan's presidency as we now are in Obama's, the unemployment rate had risen to over 10 percent (from about 7.5 when he took office), and Reagan was blaming Jimmy Carter. Yet Reagan is a hero, and to many Republicans Obama an incompetent fool who is evil. And God forbid if Obama or any of his surrogates even hint that part of the problem is the mess Bush turned our economy into.

Virtually everything of any consequence that Portege has complained about regarding Obama happened during the Reagan Administration as well.
There are some differences, however. Carter's Treasury Secretary never said we were on the verge of a global financial meltdown as Bush's did. Moreover, it was Volker, appointed by Carter, who set the stage for the recovery that began maybe 2 1/2 years into Reagan's presidency. In contrast, all Obama was handed by the Bush people was a shit sandwich.

Things obviously are not good. But when I see people who most likely were Reagan supporters, or who support a candidate who is trying to present himself as a Reagan clone, try to tag Obama as the worst President ever, or an extreme incompetent when it comes to the economy, it raises the question what the real reason for their extreme antipathy towards Obama is.

Incidentally, the following website presents historical unemployment rates. One thing to note is it is not uncommon for newly elected Presidents to face high unemployment rates the first two or three years of their presidencies. I suspect this is because employment is a lagging indicator, and newly elected presidents often owe their election to the fact that the economy was not doing well when they were elected. http://data.bls.gov/timeseries/LNS14000000 (note you can adjust the years included in the graph)

"Things obviously are not good."

The thing is this...things are obviously not good. When things are obviously not good, then people are not going to accept your excuses. I found this out the hard way when doing business. No matter what excuse I had no one really cared to hear it. Thats the same way with Obama. The fact is is..."things are not good" and they will blame the person who is in charge which is Obama.

As for Romney, I know that Romney doesnt really care about me in particular. However, he was the CEO of Baine&Company for 25 years and the governor of Mass. If he is in bed with Wall Street CEOs or not, I could care less. I am only interested in seeing the situations of myself and my fellow Americans get better. In fact, if he can make our situation better then hell...he deserves whatever he is getting from the CEOs.

The fact, correctly stated by Laguy, are that things are not good and they need to get better. Will Obama make things better? Have things gotten better for the majority of Americans out there? I think its time to open our minds and give Romney a chance otherwise we will have a major humanitarian problem on our hands with chronic mass unemployment.

So I dont care who Romney is in bed with...I dont care if he is even going shirtless on Twitter. All I care about is if he can make our situation better then what it is now. Obama certain isnt making it better.

Things are a hell of a lot better for a lot of people. The stock market has almost doubled from the Bush low, and as I remember it, during the waning days of the Bush regime there was a full-fledged economic and financial panic. Sure, the last few months of jobs reports have been poor, but in each months employment grew - jobs were added. Check back during the final Bush months, when hundreds of thousands of jobs were being cut per month.

Then again, arguing politics with a fucktard who writes trip reports about places he's never been, who accuses people who have been to those places of lying about prices and services, who apparently has fucked a guy or two, just judging by his posted pics - I don't see much value in this.

By Laguy on Sunday, July 10, 2011 - 05:35 pm:  Edit

Things definitely are better for me now than the day Obama took office. But that may be, in part, because I'm part of the chronically employed class who has enough money to care what happens to the stock market.

Political rants on a sex site.....there has to be a better way for Portege to get his message out. Portege "I know what ill do to make a difference in the world. Ill sign up to monger site and spread the word of the neoconservative to the guys who think about sex all day." Its like trying to hand out condoms at a Vatican gangbang. Good luck to you sir.

"Things are a hell of a lot better for a lot of people."

Which people do you speak of?

The 44 million Americans on food stamps?

http://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2011/07/01/u-s-food-stamp-use-on-the-rise/

The 14 million Americans that are unemployed?

http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/series/UNEMPLOY

The 20% of Americans who consider themselves underemployed?

http://www.gallup.com/poll/125639/Gallup-Daily-Workforce.aspx

The 45% of Americans who describe themselves as "struggling"?

http://www.gallup.com/poll/110125/Gallup-Daily-Life-Evaluation.aspx

Should I keep going?

Catocony is a fine example of a man who lives inside a bubble. He doesnt see whats really going on out there. All he has to do is a simple google search which clearly demonstrates something is obviously wrong. Instead he chooses to focus on a stockmarket chart that is clearly manipulated by all the money printing and not the actual economy. Catocony has probably never held a real job in the real economy and so he doesnt really understand how it all works. The truth is that 45 million Americans are on food stamps...45 out of 350 people are on food stamps. That is scary and something is quite obviously wrong.

I like peas. What I don't like is that my fellow Americans elected someone inexperienced to the office of the presidency. We need someone who understands how to turn this economy around. We need someone who has experience governing. We need someone who has experience in achieving compromise. That someone is Mitt Romney. Let's elect someone actually qualified to be president for a change. He was a Republican governor of a largely Democratic state. Do you think he got what he wanted all the time? No. But he did get things done. It is called experience, it is called leadership, and right now, we have neither.

By Portege on Monday, July 11, 2011 - 02:57 pm:  Edit

It doesnt seem like anything is wrong, but that depends on where you sit. When I look outside in my suburban community, nothing looks like its out of place or wrong. I dont see crowds of homeless or beggars on my street. Things have gone on the same way as they have gone on for the last 30+ years. There is no difference from where I sit.

However, looking at the statistics shows that things are very different and in fact very wrong.

Fact#1: If you find yourself unemployed, then chances are you will stay that way for at least 6 months. Historically, it has taken 5-10 weeks or 1-3 months for someone to find a job who is looking.

http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/series/UEMPMED

Fact#2: Unemployment is hitting the Democrats typical core harder then the Republicans typical core. People over age 25 and with a college degree have a 4.5% unemployment rate.

http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/series/LNS14027662

Those lacking a college degree are averaging 10% unemployment.

http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/series/LNS14027662

The hardcore unemployed, those unemployed for more then 27 weeks, is now an army of 6 million strong or more then double that of the early 80s recessions.

http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/series/UEMP27OV

So obviously something is wrong and its effecting millions of Americans. Personally, I have a lot of work. In fact, I am exhausted from day to day and can barely keep this place clean because the work keeps flowing in. I have specialized knowledge and experience that is needed in the oil, mining and construction industry though. That industry requires work, hard work and specialized knowledge. Most people are used to sitting behind a desk staring at a screen all day long and they consider that "work". Hehe. Come join me for a day and see what real work is all about...it does pay very very well though. A man under 30 who puts his back into it will get paid between 65-100k and eventually make well into the six digits after 5 or so years at it.

Guys! This is news. Portege's average "links per post" now exceeds Beachman's. Hail to CH's new Loser of Losers!!

By Portege on Monday, July 11, 2011 - 04:52 pm:  Edit

You guys just seem to want to talk shit and target me saying "oh what a loser". Im not doing anything wrong here. Im posting in the appropriate place on the site and inviting on-topic discussion. However, there are some members here who choose not to discuss the issue, go off-topic and instead target me because I said something about the prices in Pattaya or whatever several months ago.

If you are so fixated on me because I said something about the prices in Pattaya or trannies in the DR, then you not only need to get a life, but see a doctor. Im not so fixated on the written word because I know 99% of it is usually BS. So if you are diving into my posts, micro-analyzing every word and then bringing it up months later, then there is truly something not right about you and that is your personal problem. Please do not bring your personal problems to my political discussions.

I invite on-topic political discussion to the thread, but all other trolling posts about trannies, losers or prices in Pattaya are not welcome. You destroy the site and I can tell you that no one will want to post with all this hatred and off-topic banter floating about...

These are serious issues and kicking out Obama in 2012 is what we should really be focused on.

By Branquinho on Monday, July 11, 2011 - 06:00 pm:  Edit

Some might disagree and feel that kicking out all the House Republicans and Tea Party morons would be a reasonable start. Obama has put some real options on the table in terms of deficit reduction, and the Republicans are going into hiding again, refusing to negotiate or compromise. All because Obama has the nerve to suggest closing some hideous tax loopholes that benefit hedge fund managers and other patrons of the GOP. A bunch of Grand Old Pussies!

Sure, these are serious issues. The problem is your read on these serious issues is simpleminded. Your diagnosis of the problem is straight out of Fox News and what you offer in the way of "analysis" (polling data and employment statistics) says nothing about how we got to this place or how we get out.

You're still a loser with your wild-ass interpretations of the meaning of the numbers. Do some serious reading. Or get a life. Go fuck a puta (or a ladyboy, if that's your preference). You might feel better.
