I know some people here want to squelch the debate on Obama, but it looks like Mitt Romney delivered that knockout blow last night at the debate.

By Catocony on Thursday, October 04, 2012 - 08:09 am:  Edit

Romney "won" the debate, and will lose the election. Or do you think they'll cancel the election and just anoint Mittens as King after last night?

And Portege, we had all hoped you had crawled off and died somewhere. Too bad you're back.

This board's been pretty pleasant for the past few months. I was afraid Portege would reappear from under some rock or another.

I was hoping the next post from him would be related to the topic of this board.

Romney won on aggressiveness and on lies per minute.

>>> Mitt scored ZERO on INTEGRITY.

>>> Mitt scored ZERO on MORAL VALUES.

I am sending a ten second sound bite to the Obama debate preparation team that will absolutely destroy Romney. My state party chairman will deliver it.

At least BeachWORM has not come back. I guess he could not get on the payroll.

By Portege on Sunday, October 14, 2012 - 07:19 am:  Edit

Some of you guys are simply wrong about Mitt Romney. You tell us he is a "bad man". lets take a look at Mitt Romney point by point.

Point 1- Mitt Romney donates 30% of his income per year to charity. We talk a lot about Romney's tax rate, but what about the rate that his money goes to charity? Romney has been known to finance accident victims as Paul Ryan highlighted during the VP debate. Romney donated his entire inheritance to charity. Romney and his late father both did unpaid missionary work. Romney did not accept a salary for his position as Governor and he did not accept a salary as the head of the Olympics. Romney donates more money per year than Obama has donated over his entire lifetime. Certainly, many people are waking up today thankful for Romney's donations.

Point 2- Romney's Bain and Company helped create and/or assist a long list of businesses such as Domino's Pizza, Toys R Us, Staples, and Dunkin Donuts. Its kind of funny seeing the Obama's shop at places liek Target because companies liked Bain helped build that. If Bain never existed, the face of your local town would look very different. Its funny seeing people in this forum poo-poo Romney then go buy a coffee at the Dunkin Donuts.
In comparison, Obama never created anything. Instead, Obama constantly spoke down about such companies.

Point 3- Every person who worked under Romney went on to do great things. Some of those people even worked at Obama's White House for a time. Many of Romney's former employees went on to be top level executives. I do not see any of Romney's former employees complaining.

Point 4- Although Joe Biden had a lot of negative things to say, his own wife was killed in a car crash and, as pointed out earlier, Romney does help accident victims. He funded a car accident victim putting his kids through college. If it were not for people like Mitt Romney, people like Joe Biden would have a much harder time in the world.

Point 5 - I dont see Mitt Romney hanging out with the likes of George Clooney or taking grandiose vacations. I dont see him out on the golf course. Mitt Romney is a modest man. Of course, he has a few houses and cars but, honestly, I think I would have a few houses and cars if I had a hundred million in the bank. Al Gore and Bill Clinton all have several houses and cars, but I dont see anyone here making fun of them. In contrast, Obama constantly flaunts his status going around to Hollywood parties or on expensive vacations.

Point 6 - Mitt Romney does flip flop around on several issues, but thats not a bad thing. Ive done some stock trading in my life and have found it best to admit to yourself when you are wrong and move in the opposite direction. Actually, I want a person to be able to change their mind. Obama should have re-thought his "Obamacare" legislation and flip-flopped. We would have been better off. Obamacare is not universal healthcare. In fact, no one is quite sure what it is and it certainly does not make healthcare affordable...but more expensive. Over half the public wants it repealed. So flip-flopping isnt a bad thing...not a bad thing at all.

Point 7- Mitt Romney is probably the most intelligent man to have ever run for the office and certainly more intelligent than Obama. The man has a dual degree in law and business from Harvard. He passed the bar and went on to become CEO of a well respected firm. Im sure there were a lot of people competing for his position at Bain, but he was the one who got it. He went on to become Governor of Mass and the head of the Olympics. Now he has 48% of the people's vote in the polls while Obama has just 46%. Romney has a few houses, cars and has the option of giving to charity unlike many in this forum who poo-poo the man.

Point 8 - Mitt Romney is not really a conservative. No conservative would have put forward assault ban legislation or government controlled healthcare. To be sure, Romney isnt against any of Obama's legislation. He just believes it should be done at the state level. Romney is a conservative leaning Democrat in disguise much like Senator Lieberman. Certainly, Romney is no Newt Gingrich who advocates having the students clean up the high school. Im somewhat conservative myself and dont agree with everything Romney has to say or his past Mass legislation, but I know Romney has encouraged jobs and businesses. I can do without assault weapons, but I cant do without jobs and business.

Point 9 - It doesnt appear at all that my area has recovered from Obama. There are still many businesses shuttered and people out of work. Despite what the stock market looks like or what the reports have to say, the real world looks different. I applaud Obama for bringing back the stock market. I applaud him for many different things, but most certainly the recovery has been half-ass. This isnt what I expected or desired especially from Obama's many sweeping promises in 2008 of "Hope and Change".

Point 10- The 47% comment is the absolute truth. Way too many people depend upon the Federal Government. I think its time to look at ourselves and wonder. Should we be depending upon the Federal Government?

So let me ask you a question? What has Obama done exactly? Obviously none of his work has helped re-open the boarded up restaurant down the street. Social programs like Medicare and Social Security seem more in danger now of going insolvent as they were yesterday.

In fact, I would credit Ben Bernanke for any advance in business or employment rather than Obama who went to parties and campaign fund raisers during the bulk of his Presidency.

I just looked at the polls and if everyone believed that Mitt Romney is a "liar" or has "zero moral values" I dont think he would be enjoying the highest level of support thus so far in the election season.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/us/general_election_romney_vs_obama-1171.html

If you are going to call a person a "liar" or state they have "zero moral values" than you have to come up with several specific points to back up your statements. Would you appreciate me calling you a liar, but than not being able to back it up?

Changing your mind or "flip flopping" on an issue is not lieing. Actually, flip flopping can be a good thing. I do believe Obama has straw-manned Romney and lied about his positions. For example, did Mitt Romney ever commit a felony with his taxes as the Obama campaign has stated? For sure, Romney has practiced tax avoidance but that is no crime and not something that anyone in this forum has not done themselves. It is certainly no felony and to even suggest it is...well thats lieing.

Re: "30 % of his (DECLARED) income given to "charity...

The Mormon Church is THE charity. Read up on Joseph Smith and that church's stance on women, minorities, foreigners, and then get back to me on the nobility of that.

BTW, love that Biden gives < 1%! What's up with that, Joe?

By Portege on Monday, October 15, 2012 - 06:52 am:  Edit

I think everyone here at some point does not declare income. Whatever Romney declares or does not declare Ill bet money that none of you contributes as much to charity in terms of either dollars or percentage. In fact none of you would ever work a job for no pay.

The man you are putting down is a better man than any of you. The day you donate a few million or take a job for no pay or contribute 30 percent to charity than you can judge.

And you'd be wrong, Portege (big surprise). I currently donate my services to three different philanthropic organizations, and to do so I reduced my level of paid employment. In two years I will step away from my paid work completely and work about 50% time without compensation for two philanthropies.

By Portege on Thursday, October 18, 2012 - 08:41 am:  Edit

Whatever you do Bwanadik, I am 1005 certain it would not equal what Romney has done in his life. Lets review:

#1) Romney, and his family, have done extensive unpaid missionary work.

#2) Romney donates millions per year to charity or about 30% of his income

#3) After Bain in 1999, Romney never accepted a salary for his jobs such as Governor of Mass or as head of the Olympics. Romney will not accept a salary as the President.

#4) Romney has been known to help out individual families with their finances. Most notably a man who was involved in a car crash. Romney paid for the college education of his children.

I dont know anyone who can top that level of volunteerism or charitable work and I am 100% certain that Bwanadik cannot top what Romney has done in his lifetime. Would Bwanadik go on a mission to Mexico for several years doing unpaid work?

By Roadglide on Thursday, October 18, 2012 - 10:29 am:  Edit

Romneys "missionary work" was a way for him to avoid the draft, he went to France. What a tough life he had, cry me some tears!

Portege,

I am going to help you try to understand something really important. I am not sure I can, but I will try. This board is about having sex with prostitutes around the world. In the United States, prostitution is illegal except for in parts of Nevada. Because of this one issue, which is the point of this board, the big majority of people on this board lean Democrat. A woman should be able to do what she wants with her body, etc. So when you come in here and do not contribute anything on the prostitute side, your message is not well received. I am sure there are lots of other places on the web where your message would be applauded but it is not here. Is that so hard to understand?

By Bwana_dik on Thursday, October 18, 2012 - 03:40 pm:  Edit

Is there a section here where Portege can write a TR about his relationship with his right hand?

By Murasaki on Thursday, October 18, 2012 - 06:44 pm:  Edit

Bluestraveller, two big thumbs up for your post. Over my 11 years on Hombre, I've always been perplexed by people who profess to be conservative republicans posting material on a board that exists to discuss sex and prostitution around the world - things that conservative republicans abhor.

Being on this board doesn't necessarily imply that one is a democrat (I am an independent - one who loathes the republican party), but one would think they certainly wouldn't be a right-winger.

It's a strange, strange world.

By I_am_sancho on Thursday, October 18, 2012 - 07:45 pm:  Edit

I think I can bring some commentary on Mormon missionary work and it's affect on global prostitution. Since I've only ever banged one Mormon chick (that I know of). I can say I'd rate that one way up there in attitude, enthusiasm and general skill.

Turns out the Mormon missionaries are hard at work all over Leyte, building them big gleaming white temples in the middle of ghetto squatter slums. So this one AC ST girl I've known for quite some time, has been highly indoctrinated into the Mormon faith so much so that her Facebook page is even full of links to hokie Mormon propaganda. But she's also one of the freakier AC girls I know, she is totally into being tied up and force licked and finger fucked by her lesbian friend and it's amazing she doesn't have a baby yet because when you fuck her it's completely impossible not to cum hard deep inside her.

Currently she is back in Tacloban attending Mormon services at the big white temple and doing S&M lesbian internet cam shows with her "partner" on the side to make money.

So I realize my anecdotal experience with one Mormon Filipina isn't enough to draw conclusions about the whole religions missionary work, but if that one girl is any kind example, the religion apparently fucks their minds up in really paradoxical but truly awesome ways. That Mormon chick is one truly first rate prostitute.

Forgive me for jumping into the middle of this, but why would someone--Portege--consider it noble that a guy sitting on a fortune of hundreds of millions of dollars might pass on an annual income of $400,000? That's pocket change to Romney. He probably spent that much on his car elevator. He'll work for free? Big Fucking Deal! Romney took no salary during has last period at Bain? Big Fucking Deal! He was receiving lots of compensation from Bain, just not in the form of salary.

The fact that Romney is rich enough to do pretty much anything he wants to do without concern for money does not make him noble. It makes him lucky.

If this Portege guy is actually a monger, does he realize that Romney HATES his lifestyle even more than he hates abortion doctors and gay couples? He would put guys like Portege in jail in a nanosecond if he had a chance.

Now Bill Clinton; there was a president who shared our community's interests

It was a joy watching the sad sack liars and distortionists of Faux News tonight, especially as they must come to terms with the limits of their own influence. No matter how much money and power the Murdoch Evil Empire has at its disposal to fund their common conspiracy with the Tea Party GOP to sacrifice America and Americans for no other purpose than to preserve the fading FatCat power structure. It amounts to a kind of treason IMO. Certainly treasonous to journalism. I would not have this opinion if I thought that these people actually believe 5% of the garbage they state as facts and opinions. But unlike some of our naive head in the sand CH personalities, they are generally too bright to believe their own crap.

And there is guest commentator fathead Karl Rove spending an inordinate amount of energy trying to discredit even Faux's call of Ohio for Obama which had effectively determined the outcome. "Breaking it down, Obama is only 900 votes ahead with 14% of the votes still to be counted", blabbed Fathead. So was Fathead the only personality covering the election on a major network last night who was unaware of the plain fact that 75-80% of Ohio's uncounted votes to that point were in working class and minority precincts of Cleveland and Toledo that were absolutely certain to go Ohama's way and in a big way? I think Fathead Rove was as aware of that as all of the professional election analysts were. But the emotion of the night left the usually cunningly conniving Fathead vulnerable to allowing one of his lies to instantaneously blow up in his face on national TV unlike most of the lies which don't get vetted for the dittoheads. Now bend over boy and squeal like a pig.

We now return to our regularly scheduled governmental stalemate.

I spent most of my evening yesterday flipping between CNN and Fox News. I was amazed that both channels went out of their way to show the race closer than it really was. I think they didn't want to call the swing states because it would show the election was over. But then... unbelievable.... Fox News called Ohio ahead of CNN. And then as described above, Rove starts arguing with the math heads. I think that was the highlight of the evening.

Getting back on serious topics. Now that Obama has won, in my view, there are two incredibly important decisions he must make for the future of the country.

1. Will he fire Bernanke? In January of 2013, right after he is inaugurated he must make this crucial decision.

2. Secretary of Treasury. Just read a great book called Bull by the Horns by Sheila Bair. She paints Geitner as the secretary of treasury whose mission in life was to protect the banks. Will Obama pick someone other than Geitner?

By Catocony on Wednesday, November 07, 2012 - 12:14 pm:  Edit

Bernanke can't be fired. His term as chairman is up in January 2014, so Obama could - and probably should - nominate someone else to be chair.

Bernanke's term on the Board of Governors lasts until 2020, so he could be around at the Fed for a long time if he wants to stay, even if not as chairman.

By Bwana_dik on Wednesday, November 07, 2012 - 04:08 pm:  Edit

Yes, Bernanke's term ends at the end of Jan. 2014.

The republicans lost this election IMHO for two glaring reasons.

1) The Republication base didnt like Romney from the beginning! Fox news wants to know why millions of republicans didnt vote, its because they wanted someone, anyone else BUT him! All of the candidates sucked, but he was the best of the worst!

2) Times have changed! Its 2012! Relying on old, rich, white men to get you into the white house is not going to cut it anymore! The republicans now have 4 years to expand their base. They must start including Hispanics/Latinos, African Americans and even the gay/lesbian communities!

By Erip on Saturday, November 10, 2012 - 09:38 am:  Edit

Thumper, I agree with you. But for Fox to focus on repugs who stayed home (which I strongly doubt btw at least as measured percentage wise against the median number for prior national elections) is a foolish excuse. Had they nominated one of the ideologically purer genuine Tea Party cave people, then they would be giving up any chance whatsoever to capture a significant slice of independent voters and the so-called "Reagan Democrats". So any way Fox and other Repug apologists want to cut it, they lose.

Not that it won't turn around in 4 years if the economy remains shaky and perhaps get swept into an ugly costly military conflict with Iran. The Repugs are great war mongers when they're in office but become foreign policy isolationists once they become the opposition party. That's really all they stand for, opposition to whatever policies a Dem president attempts to achieve.

By Portege on Saturday, November 10, 2012 - 06:18 pm:  Edit

I want American leadership to win the game. That means improving the economy, bolstering protection for the folks and running an honest operation from the White House. At this point in history, that’s what winning means to me.

Under the Bush and Clinton administrations the American people seemed to be winning. The only part of the Bush years I didnt like was 2001 and 2008...thats it.

Now we are about to enter another recession and what things will look like on the other end is anyone's guess. Every recession seems like a hurricane. It stays for a short time but has lasting dynamic effects....
