Redongdo,
I'm proud of the US's technological achievements. However, I never tell any Mexican were are doing this. Why? Every idiot know's if you got an Infraction every time you broke the law 99.9% of all of us would be in jail for live the first day. And the Mexicans would be exicuted! There's some real sad shit going down with the US these days. Also, those cameras were suposed to be used on a trial bases. The US is a mature democrocy, we don't have to find our self by being Guinypigs. Let France or Itality do it. There citizens get a kick out of stuff like that. This shit only gets Americans thinking of Rider trucks, Diesel oil and Fertalizer!!!!!

Westfargo - in all seriousness the US is a republic.
It is not a democracy no matter how mature you may preceive it.
The difference is that in a republic there is the rule of law. In democracies there is the roole of the majuridy

Elcodo,
I remember in my history class, Washington wanted a Republic. However, in 1794 however, there was fight between the Republicans ie(republic) and the Ferderalists. there were two acts that abolished the Republic, in whitch a Federation of States took presidents over the Supreme courts rullings. ie(States rights) A imfomus judge "Casy" was his name. One act was the "Sidition act" Freedom of speach went out the door and the other is ?, it's late and I forgot. But Thomas Jefferson and Benjerman Franklin almost fuck us over big time. But the result was by 1802 we were considered a "Federation" Plato's republic didn't tolerate currencies except for Silver, gold, and bardering. With the Federation, came the national Mint. ie(ligaly printed money) Yes! before that all the money was the english two-twenty pience and phony money. We are certenly not a Democerie, and as it goes for being a republic. We'll it may be in the constitution. But I think our, taxes, states rights, and military more reflect the Federalist's idea of how to live life. It's really interesting. Go look it up.

A republic is just a form of government that uses representatives (i.e. senators, congressmen, councilmen, electoral college ...). A democracy is a form of government where there is majority rule. The US is a hybrid: people vote to elect the representatives who make decisions and laws for the people. Technically, the US is a republic and not a democracy. If it was a democracy, none of us would be paying taxes, and the drinking age would be 18. There has never been a true democracy in human history. The Greeks came very close before the Romans took over. But even their democracy limited participation to men and land owners. Just my 2 cents.

Ranc,
No taxes! I think France had a Tax overhaul a few years ago. They got rid of income Tax and put a heavy tax on Transactions for goods produced. Complete failure! The French don't want to buy anything because their afraid to paying taxes. Thrue the contry into a deep recession. I like the flat tax idea. 10%! But as all the credits say. 10% today, 20% tomorrow, 50% and so on...

"True" democracy may now be closer than ever to actually being possible, with the development of the internet. "Virtual town halls" and votes on every damn referendum known to man -- and nobody in Washington except administrators, no representatives -- sounds OK to me right about now, given the developments ...

But then, we'd probably vote so danged far Right Wing we'd not only outlaw sex, but also the internet. And we'd be back to square one!
