Anyone have recommendations for a PDA with a decent amount of bells and whistles that's not too expensive? I'd like to get one that has wireless internet capability. I'm considering implementing the AvantGo system which would let you synch portions of ClubHombre with your PDA. Should make for some interesting reading when you're on the go. Probably wouldn't be too much demand for it now since the technology is new, but I'm looking towards the future.

TJHombre,

I'd suggest focusing on the HandSpring product line. More for your money. More upgrade and update options. And, More plug-on adapters for everything from a MP-3 player to a GPS adapter.

Pricing is equal to, or less than the Palm product equal, so it really is a win-win-win.

Current Palm IIIxe user, but upgrading to the next generation of HandSpring unit soon.

I am a Handspring user who wishes he had stuck with Palm. It seems as if every time I find an accessory I am interested in, it either only works with the Palm units, or the Handspring version costs more. Do some checking around, and then make a decision. I would definitely go with one of these two, as opposed to a Windows CE unit or any of the other Palm OS makers.

Check OnSale/Egghead for deals. You can bid for one at 50% of the list/street price. DONT B UY WITH LESS THAN 8 MEG. Should get one for close to $100.

I don't know. The Compaq iPaq at Costco looked pretty cool. And this is coming from a long time Palm III user.

The Compaq iPaq 3600 series is worth considering if you can shell out $475. It uses a kick ass StrongArm processor with atleast 32 MB RAM. Has a color TFT screen. Has a voice recorder. Expansion pack to accomodate 56k modem. The character recognition system that I feel is easier to use than Palm's. BTW, I'm a PALM shareholder. I would much rather see people buy Palm products but feel the iPaq is a superior product. I've worked with the Palm III series and have seen the V & VII.

Handspring. I went out and bought a Palm VII for the woreless capability but the small memory and lack of expansion slot bugged me so I returned it and upgraded to the Handspring Edge (color). I ordered the Omnisky wireless $269 less $200 rebate when you sign up for service (until the fall) net $69 plus $39/month unlimited Internet and email service.

I am able to retrieve email messages from my corporate account and up to five other POP accounts. I am using Avantgo web pages for
-Travelocity
-AA.COM
-Expedia
-Mapquest
-inetcurrency converter
and several others

TJHombre on Avantgo would be really cool - I would definitely use (at least where I could connect)
Omnisky wireless seems to work like Pacific Bell wireless in our area which means lots of dead zones. But when it works it is great.

You mean "ClubHombre" on Avantgo

Doing all I can to secure ClubHombre's and my future. The Avantgo system will be a very useful feature for tech savvy hombres. Will try to check out some units this weekend.

Thanks for great info, keep it coming!

Yes 'ClubHombre'
Tried to check the SF Redbook reviews through the Advantgo WEB browser today. I got through the first ciuple pages and the logon form. I was then stop by 'Error - this page requires frames - not supported by this browser'

I am definitely interested in reading the site on PDA. You don't need wireless capability for that (just hotsync). For Palm devices, you can sign up as a Palm developer (www.palmos.com) and get developer pricing. Much cheaper than retail. Signing upas Palm developer is free, BTW.

If not Palm, I would get a Handera or Sony. The new sony with 320X320 16bit color is wonderful (MSRP $400).

thanks

Gilbert
