I think it will be safe to say this is going to be the summer block-buster.

By Dickjohnson on Tuesday, January 28, 2003 - 11:15 pm:  Edit

I agree with both of you.

Next Superman movie might be directed by Micheal Bay(The Rock, Armageddon) for better or worse.

They need to start getting superhero looking guys to play the roles too. Friggin skinny ass Christopher Reeves as Superman was a joke, then they bring uber-dork Michael Keeton in to play Batman ... Val Kilmer fit the bill, but he was replaced with soft George Clooney. Don't even get me started on the midget who played Spiderman ... funniest part of that movie was where he sees his new "muscular" self in the mirror. LOL. The guy couldn't have weighed more than 150. At least Hulk is CGI and huge ...

I cant agree more with you on wimpass tobey as Spidey and uber dork Keaton as Batman. Tobey turned into a pig after shooting spidey. If you look at the movie the stuntman in the suit and the cgi spidey have much better physique then macguire.

I thought Reeves was good as Superman(the 1st 2 flix) though. He's not as muscular as in the comics, but few actors in the late 70s, early eighties were.

Rumors for the new Superman : Josh Hartnett(a bit dim?), Ashtom Kutcher(might work)..

Nicolas Cage was in talks to make the new Superman with Tim Burton producing. Cage is an 'interesting' actor but too 'interesting' to be the man of steel.

Now who would be the new Batman? That flick is moving ahead with Memento's writer-director.

Micheal bay is out on the new Superman movie. Looks like Bret Ratner(Rush Hor 1&2, Red Dragon) might be directing it. Ashton Kutcher looks like the top contender. It could be a trilogy.

By Superman on Thursday, February 06, 2003 - 11:57 am:  Edit

Ashton Kutcher needs to put on about 50 pounds of muscle then ... the guy is thin as a rail.

Another twist:

Hartnett tries on 'Superman' cape
Feb. 14, 2003

Josh Hartnett has emerged as the top contender to star in Warner Bros. Pictures' "Superman" franchise for director Brett Ratner. The actor screen tested Tuesday, and sources said that Warners president and chief operating officer Alan Horn, production president Jeff Robinov and Ratner were supposed to watch the tape Wednesday night in New York. No word has come down on the outcome of the reported viewing, but Hartnett's looks and acting ability are said to not be factors as to whether he'd star as the caped crusader. Rather, the negotiation of the deal and the commitment to doing three consecutive features are said to be bigger issues. No other actors are expected to test for the role until an outcome for Hartnett is resolved. (Zorianna Kit)

Josh Hartnett as Superman? I dunno. This guy looks way too young and way to serious. Brett Ratner looks too tough. Remember, ol' Supe' is supposed to come off as a bit of a wimp as Clark Kent. I could see Ashton Kutcher, but he's still too young. Superboy, maybe, but SuperMAN? When I was a little kid, Superman was, like for many, my superhero. I always thought of him as a guy in his early thirties, not early twenties.

As for the new Hulk movie, after seeing the trailer, all I can think is "Yuk!" Hey, in a good movie I'll suspend my disbelief as fast as the next guy (Crouching Tiger ...), but picking up a hundred-ton tank by the barrel, swinging it around a few times and lobbing it over the horizon is just a bit too much.

By Dickjohnson on Friday, February 14, 2003 - 09:30 pm:  Edit

Kutcher looks more right for the part. Hartnett isn't perfect for the part(he is too serious and young) but at least it's better than Keaton for Batman(Mel Gibson would have been good). Plus maybe they're making a 'serious' Superman. They're making a trilogy so maybe he'd older in a few yrs. I think they're trying to attract the young female audience.

It is a bit much throwing the tank. But just maybe it'll be cool anyway lol, after all its a comic book movie. I personally object to (wimpy Tobey Macguire as) Spidey being able to catch a cable carrying a falling bus load of passengers and not having his arms rip out of his sockets.. or facing an exploding grenade that can rip through buildings and just have some facial scars(which healed a few scenes later). Turning Spidey into the man of steel.

Kutcher comes off as his 70's Show character in everything he does ... then again, I saw him on the Tonight Show and he was the exact same dorky guy.

I thought Dean Cain was a good Superman.

Didn't Hulk do those kind of things in the comic book? I seem to remember him tossing tanks and shit, but it's been a long time since I read a comic book. I seem to remember the guy could practically fly too, given the great strength of his jumps.

By Dickjohnson on Saturday, February 15, 2003 - 09:58 pm:  Edit

Maybe Kutcher cant act lol.. I dont watch his shows just thought he looked right for the part. Superman, you don't think Dean Cain looks a bit ethnic? Like a Filipino Superman lol... But the guy banged Brooked Shields at Princeton, screw him.

Hulk can almost fly, I bet they did that in the comics ROFL.

By Wombat88 on Sunday, February 16, 2003 - 02:03 pm:  Edit

I've never seen the 70's show either, but know that it can kill a young actor's career. I never bought into Dean Cain as superman. Does anyone remember the orginal B&W TV series? While the guy didn't have the body, he sure had the face and mannerisms.

It bothers me that over time these comic characters can do just a little too much. Remember, when Superman first came out, it was pretty impressive that he could pick up a car and leap over a tall building. Eventually he became more god-like than a super man.

Many of you have probably seen HULK by now. I saw it opening night 7pm at Hollywood Cinerama Dome, forward center seats.

Quite enjoyable flick. The second hour was when the movie really takes off as Hulk comes to life. Esp after he was taken to the underground military facility. They stayed true to the comics and this Hulk is motherfucking huge.

And yes, he can practically fly with the great strength of his jumps. Suspend your disbelief and you'll thoroughly enjoyed the 'flying' and his superspeed running, jumping.

The flick is flawed, but enjoyable overall. Some slow moments though....

The idea is tired. But I guess comic book freaks love to buy movie tickets. Good for Hollywood. Yippee.
