Anyone out there
-who plan to
-have plans to
-have tips on
-already have
-have friends who have
retired, relocated to another country, whether it is Thailand, Brazil, China, Argentina, Cambodia, Costa Rica, Mexico etc.

Let's share some ideas, tips:-).

I have friends that have retired to Mex and Thailand. Tip #1, keep your money in dollars. My friend in Thailand bought buckets of Baht and lost his shirt.

Mex friends (a few) live in Todos Santos, BCS. Old time San Diego, Santa Cruz surfers. They like it but all are juicers cuz there is absolutley nothing else to do. Also too hot Aug thru Oct. and hurricanes have periodically damaged there houses.

I know a couple of gringos(met while I was fishing) who have retired down at Bahia de Los Angeles. Also juicers as nothing else to do all day. Really pathetic, but they seem happy.

I'm thinking about it. Going to check out Mazatlan later this year.

Oh, regarding juicers, I guess if you abstain until AFTER breakfast, you don't qualify.

That leaves out the last poster who has been known to pound a few with his Sun. morn breakfast at PA watching football at Caliente. And I doubt that he ever takes a night off either.

Don't worry...if that cunt keeps bleeding for 2 weeks every month like it has for the past 2 months, it will be heading in the same direction as are the cucarachas.

Back to the topic, sorry Milquetoast, Playa del Carmen south of Cancun is a nice spot. It's where the ferry leaves for Cozumel. Sort of a boom town.

I was there last summer and have plans to do it again this summer. Then the coastline between del Carmen and Tulum is spectacular.

This year I'm driving from Cancun to Chetumal to check that out. The Mex gov is just starting to develop the coastline north of Chetumal. Roads and electricity are in. Lot's of beachfront land for sale via the Fidecomiso route (bank trust).

Ldvee,

I used to work in Chetumal a couple of days a month. We had an office there. I like it. Real kick back kind of place. Life at a slow pace. Hotter than shit at certain times of the year. Some really nice women. A lot of short little Mayan women.

Lots of open coast between Playa del Carmen and Chetumal. Dirt cheap land. etc, etc,

Go over to Campeche. Campeche is a beautiful city. The beaches are not great and the ocean is not as pretty, but the city is really nice. And its cheap. Not a bad retirement place and only 5-6 hours by car from Cancun. Direct flights form Campeche to Cuba. 4-5 flights a day to Mexico City etc. Great place.

Batster,

Do you have a hotel rec for Chetumal? Or at least and area to look. Something nice, $100 bucks a night, in an interesting area. I'll be there one or two nights.

I've been asked and one of the concerns of those considering relocating or retiring is how much money would they need?

To me it really depends on the lifestyle of the person and what country they want to go to. But anyone else want to chime in on this?

I know an alcoholic Vietnam vet that lives in Baja in a ratty old trailer on $600 per month. On the other hand I know a retired teacher with a nice inheritance that lives in the same town with a nice new house on top of the hill and has a $4000 per month income. He has it made.

So somewhere between 600 and 4000 bucks a month will work in Baja.

Sounds like you all are saying many retirees overseas are alcoholics(Juicers lol).

ldvee, do these folks whore around?

I don't drink much but a buzz once a long while is pretty nice:-)
