Gimme Spain in the Distaff, Bach in the Mile and Include in the Classic. Good day to bet the longshots, big fields and good horses.

I'll try Forbidden Apple and Navesink in the Mile, Delaware Township and Swept Overboard in the Sprint, Spook Express and Kalypso Katie in the FM Turf, Officer and Repent in the Juvenile, and...if I'm not broke yet...Quiet Resolve in the Turf.
And then there's always that can of beans I saved for dinner (lol).

What a great day Breeder's cup day can be for plotting out wagers that could possibly generate some major withdrawals.
But I wouldn't do at Caliente.
On this years Breeder's cup (yesterday), there were five superfectas, six trifectas, and a pick three that all paid over the house limits at Caliente....
Being under-banked this year, it was best for me to stick with straight bets, and there's nothing wrong with that on Breeder's Cup Day, as more money seems to come in from more countries every year.
This was not necessarily the plan of attack, but of the horses I mentioned above, a $20 win/place bet on all nine of them cost $360. None of them won. But the return on three seconds equaled $450. This is an ROI of +25 % without even a win.
The best place price came from the two year old colt Repent in the Juvenile who is a long-striding February foal and those two facts alone made him a horse to think about (at one wide turn Belmont). There is a further case that could be made too with training behavior and race record.
On the Caliente subject, if Repent had actually managed to win, Caliente would have slashed the straight pay-offs since they also have limits on two year olds.
Bullit's horses also generated a profit without a win if his single pick in each race was bet across-the-board...ROI +31 %
I know that Daytimer also had only one horse he wanted to bet and had a tough beat, but decent prices for place and show. Tough beat yes, but a nice call anyways.

What a shame for the owners of Exogenous! Did you see him take that freakish tumble while coming out for the post parade? They showed one guy crying his eyes out. Thank God the horse didn't have to be put down.
A Hates to see things like that happen kind of guy,

It has been a while since I've been to Caliente. Have they changed their rules? They used to pay track odds at the New York and California circuit. I hit a $930 exacta a few years back and I got the whole thing minus their 2% cut.
PS I inadvertently placed a message on the football thread that I loved Atelier in the Distaff. Oh well.

Ootie, yeah, I hate seeing that, especially on live television. It does hurt. I wanted to jump in the TV and get underneath that head the way she kept slamming it to the ground trying to get free.
There is some chance that Exogenous might be OK. They say her leg is fine, but it's still too early to know about her head injuries. She is definitely retired, though.
Isn't this like the third time the BC broadcast has had the misfortune to show live tragedy? A few years ago, one of the potential filly or mare champions broke down during the stretch dual in the Distaff; and another time, in one of the Sprints, a horse reared up and died after apparently suffering a heart attack early during the race.
One thing I did not notice from the broadcast: on the roof of the grandstand apparently was a number of rifled police sharp-shooters present as part of extraordinary security measures.
Stayawayjoe, there was a brief time when the book offered full track odds on everything from NY and CA; they even incuded the CA pick six for awhile. I believe that all lasted for something less than two years, but I'm not really sure.
On the bottom of the current scratch sheets, I think it says that full payoffs are on straight bets only; CA and NY only. Based on that, I stand corrected on the potential two year old payoffs at Caliente on the Juvenile.
I do not believe Caliente waved their exotic bet limits just for the Breeder's Cup because they would have included that detail in their weekly ads in the Racing Form, otherwise why even do it. But I wasn't there and don't know anyone who was.
It was disconcerting to me to be stuck with a severely stunted bankroll due to poor planning because by my usual playing methods, the Mile trifecta was easily hit with a $24 or so ticket. If you incorporate body language stand-outs as a last minute deciding factor strictly on the win end, I thought Val Royal was a standout. And the rest was "easy". LOL
If you had the fortitude to toss Officer out of the exacta or the trifecta, those bets were not so hard either.
But I actually enjoyed the day anyways...

I was in Vegas for the BC. Many casinos had giveaways. I got a couple of nice T shirts from my favorite horseplaying book, the Fiesta. I like the fact they have individual TV's.
Even though I had my main bet of the day on Shakhee, who lost by a nose in the Classic, I am still happy with the bet. No horseracing fan could fault that amazing finish. I am happy Tiznow was the horse that beat me. Tiznow is an amazing horse.
Even though I missed on the Classic race, I ended up a little ahead for the three days I played in Vegas. That does not happened as often as I would like, so I am happy about the trip this time. Also I got a lot of nice tit in my face (Olympic Garden) when taking breaks from the horse playing.

Does anyone have any good handicapping-out of the norm-information out there to share?

I like Seabiscuit.
I am half way through the book and it is really good. Interesting how tough life was for our country during the thirties.

Can Zenyatta do it? In any case great horse. Post time 3:45 PST. I don't think she could best a 12 horse field again of mostly males. Buy if she does, it will be a real feat in horse racing.

Although she won, I didn't like her last race. I would love to see her do it but I am back wheeling her in the exactas.
By Stayawayjoe on Saturday, November 06, 2010 - 06:53 am: Edit |
As a fan I'd root for her but as a bettor, I'd take BLAME. He'll be longer odds and the race sets up for him. I can see them running 1-2 either way.
In the TURF MILE, I like SIDNEY'S CANDY a lot. I see him torching the field wire to wire. All he has to do is hold off GOLDIKOVA and/or GIO PONTI.

Lookin at Lucky in the Classic followed by Haynsfield is my exacta pick.
