You might think I would be rooting for Miss Thailand and Miss Phillipines...but I wasn't. I was rooting for Miss Venezuela, Miss DR and Miss Brazil...they were the best looking of the lot and to my surprise, two of them finished 1 and 2. South America takes beauty pageants seriously. There are some politics but usually the best looking girl with brains wins.
I contrast, Asian beauty pageants are exclusively political. Miss Thailand and Phillipines are usually homely, light-skinned girls. Why? The economies and political support are totally controlled by Chinese nationals in those countries and they decide the winners by paying off judges and being judges themselves. The judges in both of those countries are almost always older Chinese men and women. They want the girls to reflect a Chinese man's idea of traditional beauty and that usually means girls who are not that hot. Step off the plane in Thailand and the PI and you will see hundreds of girls who blow away the girls who compete for beauty pageants. As a result, the Asian countries perform poorly in the Miss Universe pageant. Only one girl finished in the top 15, Miss Japan and Japan rarely does well in these pageants.......thank god the event was in Panama

i only stay tuned for the first few moments when each lady introduced herself. i honestly felt like these countries had to have hotter women. they weren't ugly, but they must have put a lot of emphasis on unimportant qualities like personality, education, and talent.

There are cetain talents that I don't find all that unimportant ...

Agree-- Just stand outside any Thai university when class lets out and 75 % of the poo ying are hotter than what they sent there.
The last Thai girl who won was Porntip ( Bui ) who actually grew up in LA and spoke very little Thai when she was selected Miss Universe. She was drop dead gorgeous and must have had a friend in high places to be named Miss Thailand when she never lived there. I knew her when she waited tables in her Mom's restaurant in LA. Beautiful and definitely knew it. Arrogant personality-- maybe because she was hit on constantly .

All the Asian chicks were wiped out after the first round except miss Japan, who was not bad. Miss China's face looked bad. Miss Singapore looked like a tough b*tch. Miss Koreas' face was a bit too round and I've seen better Thai girls than miss Thailand. But all of their bodies are hot, as to be expected.

Miss Czech was pretty good. All 5 finalists were not bad. The runner up looked slightly chubby to me.

What was ridiculous was the Mainland Chinese wielded their political power and Taiwan cannot compete with the name Taiwan, but as Chinese Taipei! What kinda name is that? Taipei is a city, not a country. It's like say America have to compete under the name 'caucasian Los Angeles'. The mainland folks want Taiwan to be part of China really badly. Taiwan is wealthier and the folks there are kinder, more advanced. China forced Taiwan out of the World Trade Organisation too. It is quite possible that Taiwan will be part of China in the future, but with it's own goverment and without a communist system.

Not to mention that Taiwan is not a "true member" of the World Health Organization, and the Bush administration has, under pressure from (mainland communist) China, backed down (IIRC) from recommending that they be given full status (I think there would be funding advantages or something?). Amazing, that even in the midst of a SARS epidemic they can think in terms of elite leaders' profits instead of those same people's (and ALL their citizens') chances of DYING OF A DREAD DISEASE!!

We need a ClubHombre version of Miss Universe where the top two or three working girls in each country, selected and judged by a broad panel of CH members, can all compete in the categories of blowjob, fuck and ladies' choice (whatever the hell they think will win the judges over).
