Credit to cf and to Pops.

For special Spanish charaters type:

Alt+xxx
168=¿
173=¡
160=á
130=é
161=í
162=ó
163=ú
164=ñ
165=Ñ

These are about all you will need for spanish. I printed this out and taped it to the side of my monitor.

StrikeEagle can you elaborate on this. It doesn't seem to work for me.

Do you need to be in a special program for this to work?

How about typing something here using the special characters.

BBBW,

Hold down the ALT key while entering in the numerical values.

When you let up on the ALT key the correct characters will appear.

¿
ñ
¡
etc

Additional Note: You have to type the numbers on the numeric keypad, the numbers above the regular keyboard won't work. If you're using a laptop, you probably have to hold down a fn key or somesuch nonsense to get the numeric keypad emulator working.

With all due respect the method described above is the hard way of doing it. You can set-up the ability to switch between a Spanish and English keyboard thru Control Panel.

Control Panel
KeyBoard
Language
Add
Scroll to Spanish Traditional Sort
Select
OK with enable icon on task bar
Ok Ok OK

Now you have an icon on the task bar that you can use to switch between keyboard languages. For accents just use
' + the letter. ; = ñ

Here are some examples
á é ó ú í ñ ¿ ?

This is a lot easier. Also, if you want to get serious enable Spanish grammer and spell check for WORD. You will need the install CD.

Buena suerte.

I have the spanish keyboard switching enabled as well. But since I rarely use the characters I find the above method usually faster. Whatever works.

You can also change (not add) your keyboard layout to Unites States-International. This allows
you to type diacritical caracters as follows:

ALT + n = ñ
ALT + o = ó
ALT + e = é
ALT + i = í
ALT + s = ß
ALT + ? = ¿
ALT + ! = ¡

etc.

The advantage is that you don't need to learn the layout of a new keyboard.

The drawback is when you want to type the following characters: ` ~ " ' Then you have to
type the character + SPACE.

An addition to my post:

You must use the RIGHT ALT + a key.
Sometimes it's labeled as ALT GR.
