I am getting frustrated with Kazaa and heard about direct file sharing networks or systems (ftp). Anyone know how this works and how I can get files (interested in movies, regular and X-rated). Maybe one of you guys has this up and running and would like to share with me. I have 100s of movies and MP3 files from Kazaa to share.

I use Imesh for file sharing. I heard that many files on Kazaa are virus infected.

I am almost certain I got a virus from Kaza last year. However since upgrading my antivirus software and putting up a firewall I haven't had any problems in that regard.

I would highly recommend not using any of the file sharing networks anymore. The RIAA has said that it is now targeting individual file swappers and it has the means to track you back to your ISP from your IP address. http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1105_2-1020876.html
Because of the recent Verizon ruling http://www.nypost.com/business/661.htm and a clause in the 1998 DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act), copyright holders can subpoena YOUR personal information from the ISPs and NOT have to get a court order to do so. This is a horrible infringement on our personal freedom, privacy, and civil liberties but it is the law for now.
The RIAA intends to sue thousands of file swappers for over $150,000 per infringing song. So unless you have the technical know how to prevent the RIAA from scanning your computer, I would highly recommend un-installing these file sharing programs until the developers make new programs that are more private and secure.
$150,000 in a ridiculous amount allowed under the law. Personally, I can't wait for the RIAA to start suing thousands of ordinary Americans, leaving many families in financial ruin because little Johnny installed Kazaa on the family computer and downloaded a few songs.
Maybe then our fucking Congress will wake up and amend the copyright laws (instead of fucking extending them 20 more years to save Mickey Mouse) and kill the DMCA. The amount allowed per infringing song also needs to be greatly reduced. Could you imagine a kid who downloaded 10 songs off of Kazaa? The RIAA could sue the parents for $1,500,000. People are going to lose their homes and livelihoods over this.
I still cannot believe the RIAA, instead of adapting to what the market is demanding, is still insisting on using an antiquated business model. This problem with file sharing is entirely their fault. They could have bought Napster four years ago and this would have been over.
Every time they sue or do something this high profile, an average Joe who never would have heard or known about file sharing goes out and downloads Kazaa.

I have been following this thing about the possible lawsuits. The file sites, Slync and Zeropaid, both claim that initially the number of users dropping slightly but that the number is now higher than several weeks ago.
I took the easy way out and probably made the RIAA happy. After closing most of my files I am now left showing around 400 mp3s that are all classical. Maybe they'll pass over me. I feel pretty guilty still accessing other people's rock stuff but I want to see how this all pans out. I'm noticing at least half of those who are downloading classical from me are sharing little or nothing. (down the hatch leeches). This is par though for this kind of music.
I still see plenty of users with huge amounts of mp3s, defining huge as at least several 1000. One guy last night had over 3600 but he was obviously located in Germany. Another sharer was probably in Great Britain from the number of 60s and 70s groups that never made it in this country.
I am predicting that this will be another bust for RIAA although they will still screw some users over. The only way they can make their scare work is to make it widespread enough to seriously affect people. And then the stories of 13 year old kids being sued and their homes raided will start making the news.

I understand the risks, however Kazaa lite and Kazaa++ are now using re-routing through proxy servers which should make finding ones ISP pretty difficult.
But back to my original question: How does ftp file sharing work and is anybody interested in going that way.

Direct Connect is good for everything. If you are a little more technically oriented, try MIRC.
A long long time ago in a dorm far far away, I used to serve pirated videos in an MIRC channel ( #vcdz4free if you are so inclined).
Basically, once you connect (try an effnet server or a dalnet server) type /list to bring up a list of channels. Usually there are about about 40,000 channels, (depending on your server) so go get some hot chocolate....
When you see one you like (you can search using Ctrl F) type /j <channel> so /j #vcdz4free
you will see messages posted by robots (that was me at one point!)
if the message sounds like something you want, type the trigger
the message will say what they have, how much data they have served, what the maximum connection speed to date has been for them.. I was allways the leader, cause I had a kick ass computer in one of the most wired campuses (so sayeth Yahoo) in the US.
Anyway, type the trigger, and the robot will offer you access to their server.
Once in, type dir to see what they have
type cd (directory name) to change directories
Type get (filename) to get a file
Have fun!

There is another one I used to use way back in the day, it was called Limewire. I am not sure if it is still useful, but you can give it a shot. It was easier to use then MIRC

Hey guys, I have downloaded limewire and gave it another go-round. It is my favorite of the GUI file sharing programs so far. It seems to have everything you can possibly want(in terms of porno).
Best of luck.

Marauder, WinMX will resume partly downloaded files, will limewire do this?
As for "everything you can possibly want(in terms of porno)", you're just kidding, right? I mean, this is ClubHombre ... where real men go out there and pay for real action.

Thaimarauder, if you are looking for porn check out Edonkey. You will probably need to find the actual files elsewere (filedonkey.com, shareprovider.com, pornreactor.com, pornodonkey.net) and then they will automatically connect to your edonkey download program. Edonkey is NOT fast although I continually read posts from people claiming to get high download speeds. It is also lousy for music. WinMx is the tops for that.

Yuper, Limewire resumes files after you restart your PC. (This is good)
Unlike many programs, as it downloads them, you cannot preview them, because they are converted to a file that only limewire understands. When they are downloaded they are converted into MPGS or whatever. (This is bad)
Have fun.

Hey Tight Fit, thanks for the input! I will check that out as soon as I finish finals.

Hey folks, have any of you been able to find endnote 7 on your peer to peer programs? I am going to need this for next semester, and I don't want to pay for it.
If you have it, can you send me a message and let me know where to get it?
Thanks!
By Tight_fit on Wednesday, December 03, 2003 - 11:15 pm: Edit |
Endnote 7 on donkeyfiles.com gets 5 hits. 1 hit on shareprovider.com. And on the actual downloading program, edonkey, I am showing 20 hits. And this is at 11PM. No guarantees that any of these will actual take. I've had some porn movies on edonkey for almost a month and they still aren't finished. Give it a shot and see what happens.

Haha, thanks for the info Tight fit. I will give that a shot as soon as I get back to campus. Best Regards
