Looks like the Democrats, citing legal precedent from the Supreme Court case Bush v. Gore, Florida Court of Appeals, 2000 have pushed back the recall election to March 2004 at the same time as the presidential primaries.
Gee, given that there is no Republican presidential primary that is contested (George Dubya is unopposed) the Democrats figure to have the greater voter turnout.
That is a shame!
Darrell Issa, I feel your pain (he,he,he).
First you took one for the team by withdrawing your candidacy for Governor because the Sperminator jumped into the race.
Now Issa's multimillion dollar investment may not succeed in winning the first ballot question (should Davis be recalled) nor the second ballot question (Cruz Bustamante = only Democrat while diehard Republican McLintock shows no sign of stepping aside since his support keeps growing to rival his movie star competitor).
As for Arnold, this is becoming a publicity stunt nightmare.
First, he's working cheaper than he ever has in 25 years!
Second, the public is going to expect some campaign specifics in the next 5 months (saying you are going to audit everything is a slick way of saying "I'm not prepared to tell you guys who's employment I intend to terminate, [highway patrol officers, prison guards, teachers, etc.] until AFTER you elect me governor").
Three, Arnold's dry cleaning bill keeps getting costlier (did you see that egg splatter on his nice new suit?).

Prediction: the next Republican to step aside if the recall election gets delayed until spring 2004 is ... Schwarzenegger!

It just ain't fair for the courts to decide an election. Also the 9th district appeals court (the most over turned appeals court) is made up of three judges appointed by Democrats.

Man this is just anti-American.

Opps, uh never mind about the remark about judges deciding elections. HAHAHAHAHAHA

Oh, I was impressed by the aim of the little Democratic coward that threw the egg.

You might as well get you facts straight on why the election has been deferred. 40,000 citizens in CA still use punch cards and the courts have decided that they will not be able to accurately vote.

Both MIT and the Ca Institute of Technology did studies on the mechanics of voting and came up with the following:

Touch Screen: 1.2% error

Electronic: 1.6% error

Punch Card: 3% error

Since the Democrats are the ones that based the appeal on this voting problem, I guess the Dems have assumed that it will be mostly themselves that can't figure out how to use a punch card (just like another election) HAHAHAHA. I mean please, it is really not that hard to do!!!

Ben, Here you go again. The problem with punch cards is that even when used properly by a voter there are hanging chads, etc. in a certain number of cases. It has little if anything to do with figuring out how to use a punch card.

Laguy,

I have been voting absentee ballot for years. I receive in the mail a punch card and a little metal device about the size of a paper clip.

After punching my ballot, I have to examine my ballot and make sure the little squares of paper "chads" are completely detached from the ballot. This is not a new phenomenon, but has been that way for years. The voting machines work better than the little device I use but in either case you still check your ballot for hanging chads.

These same 40,000 voters who are now deemed disadvantages used the same punch card method when Davis was last elected, so it would seem to me that it would be fair to use the same method for his recall. In fact, using the same logic as the San Francisco appeals court, why not throw out the previous election based on the fact the same 40,000 voters were not given a valid ballot?

It is really very simple to cast a ballot, but I guess the Democrats just need more help than Republicans. What's new?

I'll reinforce Ben's post. We are only talking about looking to see if a maximum of two (2) pieces of paper have separated. But then, perhaps that "etc" refers to those who are so enfeebled they can't push the stick through the hole?! Or, so indecisive.

If I ever join the ACLU, take me out back. Do not waste a bullet. Just stomp me. To death. Out of everyone's misery.

Last time it was believed that some senior citizens in Florida made the mistake on the Buchanan/Gore punch hole. Oh wait, Ben is an older gentleman? Well I guess he is a sharp older gentleman then.

The deal with the punch card was you have Bush on top and Gore below him and so you punch the second hole. But wait, Buchanan is on the other side and Gore's hole is actually the third hole, not the second. Some people didn't notice that and even those who did some of them said what the heck, the hole's already been punched. Buchanan said himself that he ended up with dramatically more votes in Florida than anywhere else. The Gore camp approved the ballot prior to voting. Gore has a few stupid people on his camp.

This 9th District Circuit Court of Appeals decision is not about hanging chads. Neither is it about disenfranchised Hispanic voters.

The Democrats are pissed off about the whole idea of the recall election. One of the 9th District Circuit Judges is pissed off that the Republicans held up his nomination to the bench. The Republicans are pissed off that their party is so disorganized and stupid to have nominated a wimp of a candidate in the last election. The issues now are not new. Yet their candidate couldn't convince the voters to remove Davis at the regular election time. Where was Arnold Schwarznegger then?

In politics as in war and crime, all is fair if you can get away with it. The Democrats look at this as a window of opportunity to delay the recall and wear out the opposition. Just as the Republicans view the recall as a window of opportunity to remove Davis in a short campaign period that doesn't allow for the important issues to be discusses.

Personally I'm happy the court decided this wait was necessary. Now maybe Arnold and the others will actually come up with a plan, not a study that makes sense. Maybe my favorite will gain enough ground to win if the recall part of the ballot wins.

Darrell Issas is a coward to his very expensive and confusing cause. Where the hell is he now that he funded this circumvention of the election process? When does he expect to recall the Democratic legislatures? Some people are trying to defuse the real fiscal problems that even they would have had difficulty facing if they had the power at the time.

What are some of those diversions? Using the Mexican Malitration card to obtain Driver licenses for illegal aliens is one. These people are NOT criminals. The US Immigration laws that made my family wait eleven years to bring my orphaned 8 year old brother in law is the criminal. He is just one of millions that want to live here and are welcomed by people, but not the government. The "nation's security is at risk card" is also nonsense. So why haven't the Mexicans blown up anything in the US. The Davis solution to the energy crisis is another. What was the Republican plan at the time?

The only candidates I think who knows what they are talking about and have some solutions to California's fiscal problems are Tom McClintock and Arianna Huffington? Why can't the Republicans nominate some fiscal conservative candidates for the legislature and give him some support? Why do so many Republican candidates want to legislate social issues that and are backed by fundamentalist religions? I know McClintock has right wing skeletons but at least he can answer a question which Arnold hasn't even thought about yet.

After I vote against the recall, I plan to cast a vote for McClintock. Then I will expect nothing changes in California until the next election, because the executive and legislative branches will never see anything through.

I agree with most, but not all of what you say above.

I think McClintock is just as unelectable as Simon as both to conservative.

As I understand it, the drivers license is issued to "All" illegai imigrants not just illegal Mexicans and there is no background check.

So how do prevent all illegal aliens from going back and forth across our boarder?

Maybe I just don't understand the way these DL's are going to be issued, but the Federal government is now stepping up to the plate and threating to cut off Fed funds for highways for any state that passes such a law.

That's all right, I can't remember the last guy I voted for major office who won.
