ClubHombre.com: -Off-Topic-: Politics: Bush Issues Proclamation Against Pornography

Some highlights from the article:

President George W. Bush on Saturday declared the week ending November 1, 2003 "Protection From Pornography Week." More than 120 groups urged Bush to sign the proclamation earlier this year to make people think of ways to help reduce the negative impact of pornography on American society.

Family Research Council President Tony Perkins expressed delight that Bush addressed an important issue such as pornography.

"We agree and we applaud the president's recognition of the fact that pornography is harmful, and we thank him for his leadership on such an important matter to America's families," Perkins said in a press release.

Attorney General John Ashcroft has only indicted one distributor of pornography since Bush was sworn in as president in 2001. He has promised there will be more forthcoming.

"We take [Ashcroft] at his word and we will support him as he carries out the president's promise, made in his 2000 campaign, to make the prosecution of obscenity a priority in his administration," Perkins expressed.

I suppose we've been "lucky" in that the Bush Administration have been pre-occupies with a war in the middle east, a lousy economy and a faulty foreign policy to be concerned about people selling of pictures or movies of other people doing what we all of us want to be doing anyway.

If Darth Ashcroft want's to make it a priority to prosecute obscenities, he should first start with the Bush's economic and foreighn policies, which have caused more harm, caused more deaths and caused more suffering than any amount of dirty pictures could ever account for.

To prosecute obscenity on the federal level it usualy means charge of transport or distribution of obscene materials, as the courts have consistantly ruled that obscenity should be defined at the local community levels which are generally a lot less tolerant. Remember the "Meese Report on Pornography" It was a bold attempt to show that pornography was an evil that concern all, and should be tackled at the federal level. The report reccomended a whole list of revisions needed to go after this scourge. Needless to say, besides a few prosecution the failure was a complete and utter failure.
And this came from a president and administration that was actually popular.

Recently the US Supreme Court accepted the recusement of Justice Scalia from hearing the upcoming Supreme Court Case on the Pledge of Allegiance.
The plaintiff asked for the recusement as Judge Scalia had shown bias in remarks he made in a speech at a convention of the Knights of Columbus in support of the religious clause in the pledge.

It make me wonder that anyone accused of obscenity can make the case of impartial enforcement of the law including the laws pertaining to those of indecency from
a man who ordered the clothing of the bare breast of the statue of the "Spirit of Justice" at the Justice Department.

Lets hope this latest pledge from the Bush administration is as big as failure as the rest of his policies.

"We have committed significant resources to the Department of Justice to intensify investigative and prosecutorial efforts to combat obscenity, child pornography, and child sexual exploitation on the Internet," Bush said in the proclamation. "We are vigorously prosecuting and severely punishing those who would harm our children."

See how quickly pornography descends into association with children? They connect those dots awfully quick, don't they? Just like someone pointed out in another thread how mongerers having sex overseas are always associated with illegal activities with minors.

The three most important things in my life are Beer, Porn, and Hookers. Hope he leaves my booze alone. LOL

Darth Ashcroft is and Evangelistic Pentacostal who doesn't drink and beleives that others shouldn't either., ie, alchholic beverages are never served at luncheons he's hosted.

So it fair to say that should Darth Ashcroft rid the US (and the world) of pornography and hookers, he'll go after booze too.

Luckily for us it has been tried before (remember prohibition), but then they've tried to stamp out prostitution also.

I suspect that they will just put more burdens/restrictions/costs onto the liquor industry so that if Ashcroft had his way you can have a beer. it will just be more regulated and cost you more. Which is all you have left after you sit alone at night with no porn. no hookers, an expensive beer, and just a copy of the Sear's catalog with women's lingerie to whack off too.

I still can't believe that that whack job is president, and that people are too stupid to recognize that he is anti-freedom and anti-constitutional rights.

Coincidence or not?
