Hey Folks. I am new to video editing. I have a firewire card and some stupid program called Video Impresser.
I want to post some of my videos on this site, but to do that they should be less then 10 mb.
The first 2 vids I have made are 20 and 28 MB respectively.
I know I can just re-record them for shorter intervols. But is there another way?
Thanks for your help. Particilarily if you can suggest software to use.
Best regards
ThaiMar

Try to keep the video lengths between 30-90 seconds.
You have two choices when xferring the video clips from tape to your drive;
1. Do it in the largest format for best fullscreen viewing and then compress the file for internet use, or
2. Do it in a compressed version
The first method is best if you want to be able to enjoy the films in DVD quality, or edit them into other videos at a later date.
Once you throw a fullsize clip onto your software, you then save it to an internet friendly template using a compression. I suggest the .wmv format whenever possible. Basically it provides the best clarity for action shots with minimal blurring, and is the most widely accepted format that most people can view.
Video for braodband NTSC (384/kbps) is an ideal template to select. Basically every 30 seconds of video will be about 600-800k, so your final video should come in under 2mb, which is pretty internet friendly.
The Windows Movie Maker software is free to download. You can find it at
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/moviemaker/downloads/moviemaker2.asp
I think you need Windows XP to use it.
Also, just a general observation, u need at least 256mb of RAM to edit, but 512 or even 1G is far better.
Good luck. Looking forward to seeing your films. Oh, and I certainly hope your videos are better than Bull_Winkles
