U.S. Takes Hard Line on Greenpeace
By Xenono on Saturday, November 15, 2003 - 03:21 am: Edit |
Greenpeace defenders claiming that they are the target of U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft’s attempts to stifle political criticism of the government.
Yeah, I like the charge the US Attorney's office brought upon the Greenpeace activists who boarded a ship (peacefully) to protest it's "illegal" cargo. The shipping line knowing that if they brought charges, would most likely have to divulge a lot of information on its illegal cargo-carrying habits, declined to do so.
Instead, Ashcroft., et al decide to prosecute on an obscure 1857 law that prohibits boarding a ship without permission before it is docked...
the charge is "sailormongering".
