And it rocks! No Spyware.
Fuck Kazaa with their Brilliant Digital Spyware/Peer To Peer crap.
Check it out for all your file sharing needs!

How does it compare to the old version (which I still use on my crawling dial up Mexican connection)? I FEAR CHANGE!

Porker, I switched a few months back from WinMx to AudioGalaxy and I love it. It is a little slower than WinMx on my even slower dial up connection and does not let you listen to the song until it is fully downloaded. On the plus side, partial downloads start up automatically, you can have a long list of songs to download and it will just keep plugging away every time you log on until they are all finished, and they have a large number of groups that you can join for specific music interests. Finally, the number of hits on any song is huge along with a great linking to similar groups and the ability to list ALL the songs available by any group. I have managed to find a number of songs that I could never find elsewhere. Give it a shot along with WinMx.

Hopefully the new version of WinMx has a more sophisticated search mechanism that allows you to search by album, title, artist etc.
After Superman posted about it I downloaded KazaLite and use it as well as WinMx.
Tight Fit:
Does audio galaxy allow you to 'browse' the files of those trying to download from your files? I think it's a good feature which both KazaLite and Winmx have because I have run in to a lot of 'gorrones' who just want to d/l and not share their own collections.

Reytj, that is another thing lacking from Audiogalaxy. You haven't the slightest idea where your download is coming from. And you can't see what anyone else has. That was something I really liked with Napster and the old Morpheus. WinMx lets you browse but none of the ones I look at ever seem to have much.
One thing I like is the fact that you don't get bounced all the time as on WinMx and others when your "giver" disconnects. At least I don't think so. I have never yet had a download stop in mid session. Also, as I mentioned, AG has many groups that you can join. I notice in their individual ads or come ons that a number of them state that on THEIR group you can get the songs that AG lists as copyrighted and not available for download. I assume that within these groups people are doing some direct exchanges.

The new WinMx is the shit. The ability to load lists of OpenNap servers also helps you find what you are looking for. If you know where to look, there is a hacked "no-queue" version of WinMX so you don't have to wait in line to download what you want ...
IMO, WinMX is the best MP3 finder around, simply because you can get your songs in whatever bitrate you want. I prefer 160 Kbps. Regular Kazaa and now-defunct AudioGalaxy only allowed 128 Kbps max. You can get any bitrate off of Kazaa if you use Kazaa Lite, but since far fewer people use Kazaa Lite than Kazaa, the selection is not so great.
Another reason to use WinMx is they will probably be around longer than the rest. Now that AG got sued and went defunct, I would imagine the RIAA is going to go after Kazaa & Morpheus next.

I recently upgraded to WinMX 3.2 and it won't connect. The previous version I had (2.something I think) connected OK but after a few days would cause a blue screen of death immediately it started.
I have a DSL line on Windows ME connecting through
internet connection sharing on another PC via my home LAN.

Elperro, they have had 3 versions in the last month or so. The most recent is 3.22 which came out a week or so ago. Watch your Connection Type on the first page as the program connects.
