Digital to DVD, Photo Developing, and Video Editing Software

ClubHombre.com: -Off-Topic-: -Photography: Digital to DVD, Photo Developing, and Video Editing Software

It's been awhile since anyone's posted to this area so rather than starting 2 threads, I've combined my questions into one.

1. I bought a Sony Digital 8 camcorder about 4 years ago (Sony TRV-103). Shot buttloads of video (sorry no porn). 2 years ago when computer crashed for good, I bought a Sony VAIO desktop with firewire card. Hooked the 2 together and got grainy, washed-out, jerky dinosaur movies (even using Sony's video editor). Took the VAIO back and bought a cheaper model locally. Since then tried Pinnacle Instant CD/DVD, the Windows movie maker, Cyberlink Powerdirector Pro, and numerous other science projects by computer sci majors that I've since deleted cause they didn't work. Or it looked like it worked and after you burned the CD/DVD and popped it in a player other than the one on your computer, you got a blank screen on the TV.
ANYONE EVER FOUND A PROGRAM THAT EDITS VIDEO FROM DIGITAL 8 AND ACTUALLY MADE A WATCHABLE MOVIE? If so, what'd you use? I also have a Samsumg DVD player that should be able to play a photo disk of JPEGs, but no luck there either. I finally had Walgreens send off 2 of my 1 hour Digital 8 tapes from Costa Rica (again no nudity) to a company called Yes Video. They can put up to 2 tapes, no more than 1 hour each on a DVD. I think the normal price is about $25, but they run a special once a month where they'll do it for $15. Well I took 2 tapes there, but they only put one on DVD, said the other was too short to process (they were both 2 hours). Each tape was a 2 hour length tape, but when you shoot in Digital 8, you only get 1 hour off each. Don't know why the fucked up. Watched the DVD and it was very nice. Only 1 thing, I didn't preview the whole thing and a lot of it was with the camera that I thought was off was still filming the sky through the windshield with me singing along with the radio. Otherwise I'd have asked for a re-do on the video to get both tapes on DVD.

2. There is a bright side. I bought a Kodak DX6340 and though the pics it takes look a little poor on computer or TV, you can print them out and they look pretty damn good. I still don't think as good as 35MM, but I've never had nerve to bring "too nekkid a pictures" to be developed. Which brings me to my question. I had some digitals printed out at Walgreens and it looks like they're automatically popped out in the bin for the workers to bag up. The girl there even said something to the effect of "I didn't look". Not that I had any porn pics taken (yet). My question: DO THEY KEEP ANY KIND OF RECORD OR FLASH MEMORY BACKUP OF PHOTOS DEVELOPED? Not that it matters but it's a small town. I know I took some pictures of the mannequins eating each other out in France and took 'em to the grocery photo place and when I got them back, the glue on the package of photos wouldn't work anymore and some of the photos were dogeared. Even the other day at Walmart, one of the girls running a processing machine called the others over and from the oohing and ahing and the way a couple of 'em put their hand over their mouth, they were looking at people's risque pictures. I really don't want to buy a Kodak photo printer since I'd have to cough up nearly $200 for it and I think the per picture price of paper is costly, much more than having them done at a photo place.

thanks,

coyote

Places like Costco can do the same video/photo processing for you, but for about 20-50% less. When I go to Samy's Camera in LA, they charge me 60 cents per pic to process my digitals into 4x6 photos. The same machines are at Costco and cost 19 cents/pic. The techs are normally run so ragged there they never have the chance to glance at any pic I've sent in.

Another alternative is photo processing via www.dotphoto.com. You can buy "packages" or just onesey-twosey it. You upload your pics and they get churned out of their factory many miles away. They arrive days later in generic packaging. Never tried processing any "smut" with them, but the pics I have seen processed look good.

I normally get my photo processing done overseas (only the innocuous ones make the flight back with me) and keep the rest on CDs or encrypted on the laptop.

BTW, I noticed some of the Sony cams will convert output from analog cams to digital within the camera. Not a software fix, but a hardware fix...

Might also try Sony tech support and/or forums. I'm certain there are online forums devoted to such things and your problem's already been resolved 100 times.

Has anybody used the new Sony DCR-DVD/201 Camcorder?

If so, please email me at baguidehelp@yahoo.com, or just send a note to my inbox as I have some questions before I purchase one.

Thanks,

PM me buddy. I've had mine for a couple of months now and really like it. It was the replacement for the DVD-300 that was stolen. There are some downsides to consider though.

I have some 35mm slides which I want in digital format (jpeg). They contain nudes. Does anyone know of a service that will do this?

gcl, buy a slide scanner and return it when done :-)
