The empty seats thing is a HUGE joke. I'm sure they knew that Greece was waaaay too insignificant to have the Olympics before they awarded the games there, but for the rest of the world to just not show up? What the hell is the problem? No hotel rooms? Can't be that ticket prices are too high, can it?
I'm watching some Mexican chicks' soccer match right now and there can't be more than 100 people in the stands. No joke. I remember being all excited in '84 because we got to go watch TRAP SHOOTING. Other tickets were tough to get (we did end up going to Track and Field and seeing Carl Lewis punk out a bit in the long jump) but it was COOL because we were going to the OLYMPICS. Even if it was frickin' trap shooting. This year, the world apparently doesn't give a shit. I think that's sad, but maybe not as sad as it is bizarre. What the HELL happened?

The only thing that caught my attention so far is the following picture. A brasileira cheering for her beach volleyball team.

So far the tv ratings in the US have exceeded expectations , the networks are very happy. But Greece stands to lose a fortune with all the empty seats, most Americans staying home for fear of terrorism. The networks have ask the local authorites to give the tickets away so the stands are full during telecasts but they refused, saying it`s not fair to those that paid.
