A friend in Rio sent this to me and asked me to down load it. I did and we have been talking for free for the past week.
Its a voice over IP service, which means that it uses your internet connection to set up a phone call.
As long and both of you have: Skype, an internet connection, a microphone and speakers you can talk for free to anyone in the world.
Sounds too good to be true, but I've been using it and I haven't found the catch yet.

There is no catch, except someday you'll probably have to pay for it. There is now a linux as well as a Mac version. I have been using it for almost a year since the first beta appeared. It works even with a dialup, although the quality degrades over some rural POTS lines (like mine). it's still pretty good. The biggest drawback is that both caller and receiver must have skype( and be online) so you can't just make a phone call like a service like Vonage. Skype is true Voice over IP, and just that, you pay for no "service" like Vonage or the the other voip providers.
