I can't believe I just now stumbled across this site.

I've mentioned before one of my favorites things to do while traveling (besides fucking) is to get some local music.

I've done this in Thailand, Brazil, Mexico, etc.

Well now you can see all the charts from many countries around the world at http://top40-charts.com/

The have local charts for Brazil, Argentina and Chile.

They also have local charts for tons of European nations like UK, Spain, Greece, Sweden, Norway and even Ukraine and Russia.

And don't forget about China, India, Japan, Taiwan and Australia and New Zealand are also included. But no Thailand... :-(

Hey Khun_Mor, no Siamese Ghetto!

They have samples of the music in Real Audio or WMA, but not all songs are included. It is pretty cool, but it is pop up window mania there so make sure you have a good pop-up ad blocker.

It's a great way to find music to look for on your favorite file sharing service, not that I would endorse using file sharing services to download music.

Great find! I probably bought around 40-50 music CDs on my last Brazil trip. To figure out what I wanted I used the listening stations at FNAC, but a website is more convenient. Thanks.

It's amazing how listening to the music you were inundated with when travelling and fucking will bring back a flood of memories and a warm fuzzy feeling somewhere deep inside your groin when you are at home listening to that same music. I think that is why many of us seek popular music from the sites we travel to. Of course some of it is actually good music as well.
Thai ghetto rap excluded of course. Lamest music in the entire world-- after country of course.

Brazil though has some really outstanding music, something I am only beginning to fully realize.

Au contraire...lamest music in the world is what they play in every freakin' gogo in Asia. IMNSHO.

Here is another site that links to different music charts from around the world.

http://www.lanet.lv/misc/charts/

It doesn't have the sample music like the other site does, but it does link to many published top music charts from all over the world.

BTW, I recommend to everyone that they visit http://top40-charts.com/chart.php?cid=12 right now and listen to the sample of "Dragostea Din Tei" by "O-zone."

The version is different from the mp3 I have. The catchy hook comes in towards the end of the sample, but doesn't really do the song justice. But it's a freaking awesome song!

Xeno,

Again this song you are raving about is the favourite song of 13 year old girls all over Europe. It is a bit like raving over "Hanging Tough" by New Kids on the Block 15 years ago.

I know Porker would hate the song, but I also liked the Cheeky Girls with songs like "Take your shoesies off" and "Touch my bum." :-)

I've said before I am very susceptible to overly simple and repetitive lyrics that have a good dance beat behind them. The beat of this song gets addicting. It is a song people like after only hearing it once.

While I wouldn't go so far as to compare it to "New Kids of the Block," I'd say it probably more equally compares to "Macarena" or "The Ketchup Song."

Regardless of what group of teeny boppers this is the favorite song of, I still like it. And you even mentioned it spent 14 weeks at number 1 in Germany so it obviously had appeal beyond that particular demographic.

It recently made the playlist in the Eurodance channel of http://di.fm

The comments on the song were a similar love/hate type relationship, but most catchy pop tunes have this sort of backlash against them.

What can I say? I do think I listen to and enjoy rather wide variety of music though. Being exposed to different music from around the globe has been one of the highlights of my travels so far.
