I guess none too many of the boys are reading these days, but if you're looking for a terrific tale to bring to the beach (while you're scouting for tail to bring home), I recommend The Davinci Code. Yeah, you've seen the damn thing everywhere, but fact is, it's a good read. I already knew something about the theories of the Holy Grail, so I was quite prepared for the revelation in the book, but the story is so well told it was like hearing it for the first time.

There's no sex, just a darn good mystery-thriller.

If you're too damn lazy to read, you can also get this one as an unabridged audiobook (ten frickin' CD's!). The narrator is the best I've ever heard (yeah, I was too damn lazy to read it).

Thanks, I just cleared my reading queue today actually. Davinci is next :-)

The problem is too many people believe the Davinci code to be true.

I have some good reading that totally debunks the Davinci code.

Well, Max, it is a work of fiction ... much like the bible, some would say. I'm interested in reading your debunking material. Is it available on-line?

Let me check into it and I'll get back to you by the end of the week.

THe good sources of De-bunking material are the two books

Breaking the Davinci Code (for scholars)

Davinci Code Fact or Fiction (an easy 80 page read for normal people)

Online so far I have only been able to find articles on the debunking. You can do a search on Yahoo "Davinci code Debunked" and you will have links to the articles.

Another one that addresses the 7 major errors in the book.

Sorry, Max, I'm not convinced (by the on-line references). Both are from faith-based organizations. Faith means not requiring proof. In fact, even if the proof is against you, you are still compelled to believe. I don't doubt Brown took poetic licence in his story ... but not nearly as much as the original authors of the bible.

LOL

You don't think a non believer is going to waste his time debunking the Da Vinci code? Do you?

By Wombat88 on Thursday, November 25, 2004 - 03:58 am:  Edit

Sure, why not? What I like about scholarship is desire for explanation. If someone (like Brown for example) makes a statement about an event, it's open for debate by others who may seek to support the claim or refute it. It has nothing to do whether or not you believe two of every kind of animal on the face of the earth spent over a month in a big-ass boat (don't get me started).

If that is the case
Read "Breaking the Davinci code" as that book is for scholars like you.

My point was that only believers would be intersted in reporting the truth if they read something that is not true.

A non beleiver could give a crap about what is true or false in "the Davinci Code" thus no non beleiver would take their time to find out if it is true ( definitely not) or a bunch of fiction
(definitely yes) :-)

Happy Thanksgiving.

I am off to give Thanks to God for my freedom and life which many people seem to take for granted.
