Duplicate Logins and Posting
| By Hombre on Monday, February 14, 2005 - 10:53 am: Edit |
In reviewing access logs, I found a particular user who often double posts that also consistently has double logins with duplicate time-stamps. I supposed it could be consistent double-clicking, but I believe it to be virus related. I myself cannot duplicate the event by double clicking with my currently installed versions of IE and Firefox.
Any professional opinions to the contrary?
I use Mozilla and notice that sometimes when doing going back through a thread, if I have posted in that thread earlier I sometimes get a double post. It happens when in the Inbox system, where you get requests to repost data when refreshing (or going back) to a screen with a entry form of some sort. I don't think it's a virus, just the way the browser and web server are interfacing.

It's not that, the timestamps would be different. These are duplicate timestamps on both logins and posts.
I just realized this is occurring on multiple systems with different OS', so perhaps it is just double-clicking.
Hey cool! A Greek chat room (this is all greek to me
RE: double-clicking
They may just have a "bouncy mouse" - I've seen it before. As soon as the user got a new mouse the issue went away. Or maybe he's clueless on the difference between a single-click and a double-click. I've seen people who seemingly double-click everything, probably having gotten the idea that it's the thing to do from the double-clicking required to launch a program from the desktop.
Only way I know of to prevent this on a web app would be to have a snippet of javascript that disables the button as soon as the clicked event fires.
And the only sure way to find out what's up is to sit there watching the person (and machine) in question - obviously not an option in this case.
