Help!
Is there a way to delete old google search items from appearing when you try to do a search? For example, when you start typing, all the previous searches you did that match show in the drop down window. Also, the userid field seems to remember userids from many different systems (including CH userid) and I would like to find a way to remove it from my computer. I believe there is a software (Google Toolbar?) that might be able to do this but I am not able to load software on my laptop (it is locked for software install) so I am looking for a manual method. If anyone out there has done this or know a way to do it, please post a reply. Thanks.

go search for "google" in the Windows registry (use regedit, you access it by going Start | Command and then typnig in regedit). F3 brings up teh search function, look for "google", keeping hitting F3 (next item) untill you get to the search bar lines that are objectionable and then delete those. (Remember, you dont' want to remove all teh google items, some of them are valid pointers.. of course, it's no big deal if you do delete all of them). Anyway, that should do it, do be careful about what you delete, you can permanently screw up Windoze (moreso than it already is a piece of garbage) by deleting the wrong registry entries.. stick to the google items.

Firefox users have it easy, just click "Tools", then "Options", then "Clear All".
In IE, the settings you need to clear are well hidden. Learning how to do this is recommended and should be standard operating procedure for any traveler, especially using any computer that is not your own. Click "Tools", then "Internet Options", then "Content", then "Autocomplete", then uncheck and clear EVERYTHING. Far too many public computers in internet cafes seem to have the settings to save your username and password information.

Thanks for the tip, Hombre, I didn't know where the settings were in IE either (obviously by my answer). I'm old-school - why fix the problem with a screwdriver when you can use a sledgehammer? Besides, if you're going to run Windoze, you should learn to use regedit.

I just started using Firefox and all I have to say is Wow!
The power to control those damn Flash adverts are worth their weight in virtual gold.

Ditto on Firefox, I left IE and never came back, no reason to.

There are a couple different ways that entries are remembered in your Google forms. There is the Google toolbar dropdown which is controlled by settings for the toolbar. If you want to clear this you need to go to the dropdown on the left side of the Google combo Box. Here you need to select the options. In the options dialog unselect the Drop-Down search history button. Select Apply you can then re-check this button and select Apply (or OK) the dropdown will return and be empty.
The other reason that entries are visible is controlled by IE and I think this is your problem. This is the AutoComplete functionality. To remove these go to Tools>Internet Options on the IE toolbar. Select the Content tab. From there select the AutoComplete button and then the Clear Forms button. This should clean out these entries and also the web sites shown in the dropdown on the IE address bar. (Just repeating what Hombre already wrote).
I would not suggest going into the registry unless you know what you are doing.

control - shift - delete
On most browsers for most form-fields, including those across the top of your browser bar, old entries can be scrolled through with control+down-arrow and can be removed with control+shift+delete .
This doesn't do anything to remove the harder traces of this type of entry, perhaps in some kind of .log file, but at least it won't pop up in the fields next time you get to that web page.
control - shift - delete
