Can you hombres shed some light on this country's immigration policies? It's obvious that pre 9/11 policies to prevent illegal immigration were "less than effective". Was that an intentional act on the US gov't part, or an inept government not interested in stopping immigration?

Has post 9/11 America done anything to substantially limit the ability of immigrants (or terrorists) to enter this country undetected?

If we had any brains, we would make it a policy of no, none, not even one, ever, visas to citizens of raghead countries. And we would deport ALL the non-immigrants from those countries presently here. This may not be particularly nice, but I guarentee it would have an affect on terrorism. Tangential comment: I just heard an NPR piece about how difficult a time the INS has in either attracting or, now more important, keeping decent border agents. Other agencies -- in particular the new Air-Travel Safety board, or whatever it's called -- are better funded, offer better pay, and are less often the scapegoat. Celebrity dude Chuck Norris has just recorded an ad campaign to help the border patrol recruiting efforts. It was a good NPR radio piece; the Norris ad's sounded waaaay too cheezy. The real job of most frontier agents is to sit on their asses in the middle of nowhere all day long -- or, worse, all NIGHT long.

My experiences with the USA's INS relative to other nations' services bear out, entirely, the presumption that the bottom of the barrel is the only place the INS has to scrape from.

Does anybody agree that our government wants to turn a blind eye to illegal immigration from "non-terrorist" countries?
I'm thinking US immigration policies regarding terrorist nations is pretty tight these days. What gets me is how relatively easy it is for anyone to cross our Mexican and Canadian borders. Since the US cannot control the Mexican or Canadian immigration policies, we can't know or control who enters these countries. Once next door, it appears fairly easy to slip unnoticed into the good old USA.

Regarding the problem with Canadians. I believe if we bit the bullet and went ahead and financed someone to open a chain of "Payless" Shoe outlets across the border in Canada it would stop the droves of Canuks coming down here to live, work and ulitmately--to shop.

Alternatively, if that did not work, I have long been an advocate of arbitrarily moving the US border North 100 miles (far enough to take in Whistler/Blackcomb). Truth is, they would be powerless to stop it. Then allow the current residents to remain, but tax them heavily, particulary the men. For a consolation we can give them Mississippi, Arkansas and Kendricks.

It took us over seven long months, but this past April, by killing some of their soldiers in a so-called "friendly fire" incident in Afghanistan, we finally exacted some small revenge against the shifty-eyed canadian horde that allowed the WTC terrorists to sneak across our northern border.

Still, we have a long way to go before we are safe. I just hope you people don't wait until you're being forced to learn to speak Canadian at gunpoint before you wake up to the dangers of the Mapleleaf Menace.

There is also an acute problem that San Ysidro agents must now deal with on a daily basis.... Many of the wealthy TJ Mexicans are of Lebanese descent and look somewhat "Arab". They are crossing the border to head over to Fashion Valley on a daily basis and are being stopped regularly. I know this because I have many associates whom are abogados in Mexico and they are usually Lebanese. They and their wives are being pulled over and I told them that was the price they will have to pay for being of Arab descent..like it or not. Nothing will stop their worthless wives from heading over to the new mall of Tijuana elite..Fashion Valley Mall, the only mall with more Spanish speaking customers than English in the entire county...Some hot Mexicanas go there....

So noone thinks that the US can isolate itself and completely control it's borders...hopefully a few ragheads won't be able to continue to disrupt our lives...but if they do...what next?

Should we look for a ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT? Is the stage being set? Will all governments have to unite to control terrorism? Throw in middle east political instability which could go nuclear at anytime, and you have the makings of an oil crisis which will further unify all other governments seeking to compete with USA's buying power and military might. The EU is pretty well fully implemented fiscally. Politically it is not, but will it be much longer?

After I finished my active duty contract I had to complete some inactive reserve time, but that was finished in the mid 1990's. I no longer have any obligation to anyone.

I think the Saudis are a bunch of ungrateful cocksuckers. People sometimes comment on this board that the Adelitas girls only use as a source of cash. Well, the Saudis are far, far worse. But, this is no surprise, as it parallels my experiences with the Saudis, in their own county. For example, we couldn't even fly the American flag on tents inside of our camp. Beer, liquor, porn, and everything everything that makes life worth living was prohibited.

When I was preparing to go to Saudi in August of 1990, we were told by the command that porn was strictly prohibited, and that everything we brought would be thoroughly searched upon arrival. At the time, if you recall, the US had very little forces in country already, and we were scared shitless that the Iraqis were going to press forward immediately, hit us with chemical shit, etc. Hell, who knew?

The local arab dudes who set up tents to sell us newspapers and stuff at the camp I was at actually took papers like the USA Today, and colored in women's bodies and faces with magic markers. ASSHOLES!!!! Around Thanksgiving we finally had a rec tent put up with a TV and VCR, and a couple of guys had some escondido porn flicks taped over regular mainstream movies. So, I was able to watch a little porn in a tent filled with guys, and then go to the port-a-potty to jack off. I jacked off so much that by the time I got back, my dick looked like a god damn bicycle hand grip....

We received care packages from strangers that were doing kind gestures for us, which were accompanied with letters that said shit like "we were told not to send any racy material that could offend the Saudis, so enclosed is some peanut butter, chocolate chip cookies, kool aid, and a couple of issues of Popular Mechanics and Time Magazine".

I disagree. My full answer would be much too long and boring to write out now, but to oversimply and generally state, I would say the reason we have one of the highest crime rates in the world is due to sexual repression.

Dongringo, my personal opinion is that the best they hope for is to minimize immigration from non-terrorist countries. They have nowhere near the resources, in budget nor personnel, to do much more. I can tell you from my experience in post 9/11 Tijuana, that people are still individually reviewed and questioned when crossing the border. We must also pass a good number of security personnel and video cameras without arousing suspicion. I look nothing like a terrorist and speak perfectly clear and fluent English, but I can tell that my answers are listened to carefully and that my ID is checked every time.

Possibly, although I suspect that, if I were a woman, I would be totally grossed out by the idea of having a little parasite growing inside of my body. Here in Florida, we have a large population of Guatamalans. I've hired both legal and undocumented Guats, and can only tell you this. The undocumented ones find it relatively easy to go back and forth for Christmas and other important events. They'll take there check from me and say "I go home now...be back in 4 weeks". This pattern hasn't changed AT ALL since 9/11, leading me to believe that the Mexican border is not too tough to cross. In 11/01, one Guat brought his 8 month pregnant wife across with him so the child could be born an American and receive all of our free medical care and welfare. From my limited perspective over here in Florida, it seems the Mexican border isn't that hard to cross illegally.

We should implement Mexico's immigration laws and apply the same Laws that Mexico applies to every other country. Mexico, which annually deports more illegal aliens than the United States does, has much to teach us about how it handles the immigration issue. Under Mexican law, it is a FELONY to be an illegal alien in Mexico. It is punishable by a prison sentence. And Mexican prisons are not at all like the resort prisons here in the US.
