I just saw there is a $100 rebate (until Jan. 15, 2009) on the Fujifilm FinePix F100fd, which has been rated very high by www.dpreview.com. www.bhphotovideo.com has it in stock (many vendors are out) for $285 shipping included, so for $185 this would seem a killer deal for a relatively small, very high quality point and shoot, with a relatively wide 28 mm - 140 mm (5x) zoom lens (good for those POV shots, if you can get away with them).
I personally have concluded, based both on what I have read and what I have experienced, the Fujifilm point and shoots beat the Canons. So if you are looking to upgrade or replace a "seen better days" digital point and shoot, this would definitely be worth considering.
I should add though, if you are a cutting-edge, state-of-the-art guy, the rebate may be a precursor to a newer soon-to-be-released model. To put this in perspective though, the F100fd was only first announced by Fujifilm towards the end of last January (2008).

I just noticed the rebate form that BH photo & video is distributing on their website shows the rebate is good on purchases through 3/31/09. So I guess Fujifilm has extended the cutoff date.

Just one more thing relevant to the above posts. Since the www.dpreview.com evaluation of the Fujifilm camera relative to its competitors is not so easy to find on their website, here is the link, if anyone is interested:

Incidentally, I just ordered the Fujifilm camera to replace my not-working-so-well-anymore Canon SD800IS.

For very compact cams for dummies... I recently bought a Canon SD770 IS.
So far really happy with the performance in its very small size. The optical stabilization seems to be as advertised, turn on the first shot is very fast, and the battery life is shockingly long. It just will not die. Starting to wonder if I wasted cash by putting a backup battery on order. I picked up a silicone skin for it too and with it on is the size of a pack of cigarettes. Feels very solid in my hand.

This recently announced 3D camera (with 3D video capabilities!) looks VERY interesting. I wonder how much it is going to cost, and whether it will live up to the hype:

What about the cheap bottom of the line cameras like the Kodak Z16 for $119 I don't think you can go wrong with what is a throwaway video camera.
Anybody own one of these?

I recently purchased a Panasonic Lumix camera, model DMC-ZS3 for $400 that takes incredible HD video. It's 10 MP, has a 12 power optical Leica lens, and can accommodate a 64 GB chip, which will allow you to take up to 4 hours of video depending upon the setting. Another great thing about this unit is the fact that you can zoom in while taking video and there's no noise of the zoom on the sound track. Simply put, this great camera does it all, fantastic photos and unbelievable video, all in a relatively small, easily concealed camera body.
One more thing--it's really durable. I dropped it several times and it worked just fine. But the real test was when I used it to take test photos of some of the more exotic ( read ugly) girls in VM and it never seized up once.

Great...WHERE ARE THE PICTURES!
By Jaguar on Saturday, July 25, 2009 - 06:51 pm: Edit |
Glad you asked, Bwana. Several days ago I emailed them to Johnnyroc and have been patiently waiting for him to post them. To my surprise, I got an email from him today asking the same question you did. I don't have a clue as to where the wound up, but I didn't get notified that my original email was returned by that bastard DAEMON like usually happens.
Anyway, I resent them today via AOL and one more time via my Apple ME account. So, like you, I have to ask Johnnyroc--where are the photos. Oh yeah, these photos were taken on my 3 year old Casio, not my Lumix.

Before you waste money on the next trip to Rio, and find you forgot how to charge the batteries.
Why don't you try this new gadget at one of those Philly massage parlors with your fav from Korea?

Bwana,
I heard from Johnnyroc, he got the photos, and will post them in moments. Well, he didn't exactly say that, it was more like, "got em....i have been very busy , but i will try to postem soon!!!" Regardless of what he said, I'm still pissed that you guys can't see the girl who propositioned me despite my Herculean efforts to get them on CH.
Bwana, as an aside, please don't send me complicated instructions again--I need simple--plain and simple procedures. Anyway, my fallback was getting Johnnyroc to do all the work for me, but even that got fucked up. Perhaps I should have stayed with Microsoft.
