First post here. Didn't find it posted before, so here goes. If your public library is a member of Netlibrary (chances are it is), then you're golden. Netlibrary has the fullest collection of Pimsleur Audio courses I've ever seen on the net. Of course the files are DRM protected, so you can download it and use for 21 days only, but then you can renew the license for another 21 days which is more than enough for 30 half-hour lessons for most people. You can even drop the files into your MP3 player (but not burn on CD) and listen on the go. The problem is though, not all MP3 players support WMA files.

Of course, if you insist on beating Microsoft protection for, say, ideological reasons, now you can. A tiny program called FairuseWM (Google IS your friend, so find it, you'll need V1.3) will do just that for you - strip the files of their DRM properties, so you can do whatever you want with them: burn them on CD, convert into MP3, whatever. If you haven't heard of that saga - Microsoft throwing fireballs at that lone hacker who'd come up with this crack, there are quite a few articles on the net - makes a fascinating reading!

Good luck!

can you post a link to 1 Pimsleur course in NetLibary? I've searched by Title, name, ISBN # and I can't find anything.

Direct link won't work, but you could go here:
http://www.netlibrary.com/ListContent.aspx?cc=0, then log in, it should land you right on the first page of Pimsleur collection.

If that doesn't work, just search for audiobooks, and not for Pimsleur. For some reason, search for Pimsleur doesn't show all courses they actually have.

Bluelight, do you have a netlibrary login? If so, I searched for "pimsleur" and got back this:

Yes, you need to create your netlib account at your local library-- I didn't think it was possible to create one online...

BL, my experience is that you don't need to create an account at your local library. Just go to your librady's website and you should see netlibrary link there. Here is how it worked for me for the first time.

1. Go to: brooklynpubliclibrary.org,
2. Click: eBooks, eVideo, eAudio,
3. Click: Netlibrary (btw, this page displays a small box advertising Pimsleur Language Programs)
4. Enter the barcode number on your library card and click submit.
5, Create the account.
6. After you log in, don't even search anything. On your right click: All audiobooks. Next page will lead you to all Pimsleur books they have. In fact, they don't have any other audio books but Pimsleur.

Of, course, your library's website might be quite different, but I don't think you have to phisically be inside the library to sign up. That would kinda defeat the purpose.

BTW, If you need to use search function, better search by language. Like I said, all they have is Pimsleur anyway.

Hope, it helps.

DM, glad I could help. Enjoy.

Xpart, my library requires me to go in-person and have the libr. create my netlib usern/passwd in order to gain access. Guess it's library dependent.

I finially got the netlibrary to work and have checked out the Pimsleur CDs. Everything was great until I tried move the files off my work computer to my laptop. Once downloaded and licensed, they cannot be move!!

So I thought FairuseWM might solve this problem, I'm only tried to move the stupid files to my laptop. Guess what, Microsoft has fixed the WinMedia player in version 11 and FairuseWM doesn't work with it. After spending the afternoon trying to roll back Winmedia Player to v10, I'm giving up. It just isn't possible.

So anyone else thinking about netlibrary for Pimsleur, here is some advice. Use a computer with WinMedia Player v10.

Ah, yes, Microsoft is ooooh so helpful isn't it? Just wait until you see the end-user benefits with the new Vista (he said in a tone of contemptuous sarcasm).

Much thanks for turning me on to NetLibrary

I tried it and got frustrated with tweaking the FairUse thing. Paid $14.50 for a program called SoundTaxi. http://www.soundtaxi.info/

Converts really slow to mp3, but it works. (100mb file over an hour) You can set it up to do multiple files at once atleast.

This is turning into a good size project. I have gotten to the point of SoundTaxi building me a mp3 file. But the file is 9Meg! All 15 lessons are compacted together into 1 file. Anyone know of a tool which can break this monster file up. I found some, but they all want to break the master file up by size/time/blank space. None of which will work with Pimsleur. I need something which the user can insert break points.
