Yet another hair brained scheme from those who don't understand the difference between the InterNet and a their rectal plug. As usual this law is supposedly to "protect" us from terrorists and csex predators. OK, so let's say I'm a wrong-doer who wants to communicate with my fellow arch-criminals via Internet. How do I do it with no trace? Let's see here - VPN tunnel, PGP encryption, anonymous proxies, anonymizer, mail redirects, smurfing, port switching.. and that's just the relatively techie stuff. For low-tech fun and games, how about I simply buy time by-the-minute at my local coffeshop? Or airport kiosk? or even simpler hop onto an unprotected WAP, of which their are 3 in range right from where I'm sitting?
As usaul, this looks like a bunch of CongressCreatures (refuese to call them men) thinking up new ways to show that they are "tuff on crime". Infringement of privacy, and extra cost to the ISPs (passed on to us) be damned. By the looks of the article, if the GOP retains control of the House, this will be the first thing on their agenda (Ok, so they did get a token democrat on board with this thing too).
Welcome to AmeriKa!
