I watched the video done on the cell phone and I think the person filming should be lashed until he drops for not holding the damn phone still. Too bad the guy who did the Michael Richards video was not there. That guy never moved his hand and got all the action.

Back to the video--granted I only know what was being said because I read translations but I think it is a shame the officials allowed onlookers and executioners to taunt Saddam. In my opinion Saddam came off as being composed and dignified and the hecklers came off badly.

As most of you know I'm much more centrist than most of you, however I felt a touch of remorse. I don't believe in executing other heads of state regardless of claims. Ideology taints reality. Sure he's not a pleasant guy, but would I want a trial by those who despise me? What if a country invaded the USA and won then held trials for everyone? Just a thought.

As for his brutality, hindsight shows that it is needed to control the vermin within and outside his borders.

One story I haven't read yet (and don't know if it has been written) is whatever happened to the two other guys (including Saddam's half brother) who were also sentenced to death with him. Originally, they were supposed to be hung with him, and then the word was the Iraqi's decided to wait until after Saddam was hung. The expectation was they would be executed about four days later, after the religious holiday.

So, is the deal that after the Saddam fiasco the U.S. is refusing to hand these other two over to the Iraqis? Did the man holding the cell phone camera save them from execution? Or what? Inquiring minds want to know.

Last I heard the Iraqi authorities plan to hang them very soon. They don't care about PR or ouside perceptions.

Saddam got what he deserved. Unfortunately, the Bush administration and many other genocidal regimes are not likely to get what they deserve.

Unfortunetly, they aren't genocidal or else the world would be free of wackos in the ME and it would be a wonderful pool of glass with oil sprouting up every now and then. That would be progress.
