I have in the past few years become a big fan of many of the newer martial arts movies from Tai-Seng video. They have an excellent website that gives reviews and previews of some of the best kung-fu movies out. If your like me, you hate movies with dubbed English and would rather have subtitles. Most of the following movies available on DVD

HEAVILY RECOMMENDED LIST
1.Iron Monkey-Yuen Wo-Ping directed movie with some of the best stunts imagineable. Last seen is done on bamboo-poles with raging fire underneath. Subtitles.

2. Dragons Forever-Jackie Chan, Sammo are together again in this non-stop action movie with a great sense of humor. Spectacular as usual with Chan. Subtitles.

3.Tai Chi II- Yuen Wo Ping Directed masterpiece.

4. Wing Chung-Michelle Yeoh stars in this prelude to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The high-speed stunts in this movie will blow your mind away. You can actually watch this movie with your chick because it has a romantic plot.Subtitles.

5. Project A II- Jackie Chan's best work by far.

6. Magnificent Butcher-Director Ping's best work to date. If you must purchase one movie on DVD to show off your new high-definition TV..this is it.

7. Black Mask-Jet Li. I could do without some of the musical backdrop but some of the action sequences in this movie are mind-boggling.

8.Meals on Wheels- Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung in their best work together. Action and funny dialogue.

Hi Blazers.

Also all the Once Upon A Time In China films are quite good.

Fong Sai Yuk films too. (The newer ones, not the old B&W flicks)

The 2 Jackie Chan Drunken Master flicks are real good too. The sequel, shot something like 15-20 yrs after the first has what I consider to be the best Jackie Chan fight scene in the last 20 mins.

it's funny, it's a comedy tho, not a martial arts flick, well... comedy + martial arts

The guy Stephen Chow starred in and directed it, I think he wrote it too.

I would also like to add that the Shaw Brothers Films have been released on DVD and have some of the best choreographed Kung Fu scenes ever.

If you want something hard core, then go rent Ong Bak. INSANELY brutal muay thai.

It'll blow your socks off!!!!

The problem with Ong Bak is that the movie is horrible and the acting so bad that it's just unwatchable in between the actions scenes. Tony Jaa is world class for martial arts movies now and might be better than Jet Li. For my money, I thought Tom Yung Goong was much better than Ong Bak. If you want to see superb martial arts then rent the older Shaw Brothers movies, I still dont see many movies today that are even in the same ball park.

Tony Jaa is very entertaining to say the least and up there in terms of martial arts skill for an actor. However he's in no way, shape, or form in the same league as Jet Li in terms of a martial artist.

For my money, I found Ong Bak much better than Tom Yung Goong.

As for yur list-- it's good assuming one prefers the HK genre.

For me, Once Upon A Time In China is my HK fav, and I like the hong fei wong char and Li does it well. However, everything out of HK pales compared to the mastery of Zhang Yimou. To Live is the finest period piece and Hero is the best movie with martial arts.

btw, where did you read wing chun is a prelude to crouching tiger hidden dragon? I missed the connection.

Wing Chung is said to be the inspiration and framework of the storyline of Crouching Tiger, It's one of the reasons they chose Michelle Yeoh to star in the movie.

I've never read. In Ang's numerous interviews, all I recall him saying it was a tribute to the entire HK genre. He choose Michelle and Chow yun-fat for obvious reasons-- they are two of the best known HK actors/actresses (jet li aside). Zhang ziyi stole the show imho.

Zz was great in House of Flying Daggers as well.
I'd let her fuck me anyday.
