He got busted. A prostitution ring was broken last week and it turns out Spitzer was a client during a trip to Washington:

More importantly, as it is with these guys, he is a HYPOCRITE, having prosecuted so-called prostitution rings in the past. He is also a FOOl, having paid $4300.

Besides the $ 4300 this is going to be the most expensive piece of ass in his life. Having said that after seeing his wife I see why his Little Spitzer wanted some action.

The ironic part is that the only part he is likely to be in any legal trouble over, is......... paying a hooker $4300. If he had paid a reasonable amount of cash out of his pocket, the feds would have nothing to make a federal case out of. But seeing as how he paid $4300, he had to conceal a largish transaction which involved some tricky banking which would probably be about all the feds could make a case out of.

Although I'm not sure who is a bigger idiot. The governor for paying $4300? Or the Feds who probably spent/will spend half a million tax dollars investigating and prosecuting the guy for spending $4300 on a hooker.

And he could have gone where I go in DC and banged a Korean chick for $160 total, including a massage, sauna and a glass of water.

Yeah, it would just be devastating to me to learn that AIDS is not caused by HIV. My whole self-image and existence as a human being would be shattered. I don't know how I would handle such a discovery should a non-crackpot scientist or doctor who understands the scientific method actually present some credible support for it. But I haven't had to face such a discovery reported by anyone with a modicum of credibility, so fortunately my self-image and ego are intact.

But Elimgarak, as a public service why don't you go ahead and inject yourself with some HIV infected blood and report back to us how things are going in 10 to 15 years, or, at least, have a surrogate around to do so. Sort of put your money where your mouth is. Generally first offense for a "john" is a misdemeanor - depends on the jurisdiction. I'm not sure where Spitzer's case would be prosecuted - NY or DC. I would think both charge a misdemeanor.

If he is prosecuted in federal court for the banking or Mann Act allegations, it will be a pure partisan witchhunt (though I'm fine with him getting hit on the prostitution charge given the hypocrisy factor). The Mann Act has probably not been applied for more then a generation when the girl is a consenting adult, and the bank related stuff has absolutely no nexus to why those banking laws were passed - i.e. to catch money launderers and such. If it was all his money, all he should have to be concerned with is the prostitution charge unless Bush's cronies and his Wall Street enemies want to get in a few licks out of pure vengeance.

As for the NY State Bar - he'll be fine. As in California, the NY Bar is enlightened enough so as not to treat prostitution as a crime of moral turpitude. He'll receive less then a slap on the wrist and soon be hired for more money then ARod earns by any number of superpower lawfirms.

So I just turned on MSNBC for my daily dose of unbiased news, and who do I see guest hosting the Dylan Ratigan Show? Eliot Spitzer!!

I'm rather surprised, particularly given that MSNBC sometimes suffers from the same affliction other ideological media suffer from (whether right- or left-wing): holier than thou prosthesizing about the evils of prostitution, or, at least expressing indignation about anyone who would partake.

I'm not quite sure what accounts for Spitzer's quick recovery into the mainstream, although I suspect he has benefited from the shenanigans on Wall Street, which he was one of the first to go after. Perhaps MSNBC grudgingly concluded the near-collapse of our economy brought about by Wall Street excesses and illegalities may be a tad worse than seeing a prostitute!
