I think it's encouraging that at this point the powers that be are down to the beachmans for support. Almost all my right wing, conservative, Republican friends have admitted things have gotten completely out of hand and many of them are voting Obama. Laguy is right there have always been a portion of the population that are raw meat eaters but apparently they're number is few as evidenced by Barak's popularity. I'm fully expecting them to create more trouble than they're worth but it's promising most of America is ready for a major change of direction. It's probably a good thing no one knows exactly what will happen or we wouldn't ever leave our houses again. At least we're choosing competence this time instead of a good ol' boy.

Beachman,

Are you saying that WWII "bailed out" FDR in his first re-election campaign in 1936, five years before our entry into the war, or his unprecedented and never-to-be-seen-again second re-election campaign in 1940, a year before our entry into the war?

I will certainly agree that 9/11 bailed Bush out in 2004, but at least 9/11 happened before the election. I don't think that things that happen 1-5 years AFTER an election have much bearing on the campaign.

What a moron, something tells me you would have voted to re-elect Hoover in 1932 and I'm sure you voted for Ford in 1976.

The reason America is in such a financial mess is that our "moralistic" leader outlaw everything they should be taxing, especially hookers and marijuana.

I'm with William Buckley, We should make all drugs legal. People are going to use them anyway. We should tax them and think of the money we'll save on the "War on Drugs", including the people we won't be paying to keep in prison. If someone gets caught driving or affecting anyone else in anyway fine the sh*t out of them like they do for DUI's. Another benefit is the crime culture that grows around illegal drugs and prostitution will disappear overnight, Let's hear it for safer neighborhoods.

Roosevelt is as close as a dictatorship as we have had in this country. With his fireside chats he was able to control the masses with his propaganda and socialist policies. He tried to control the judicial branch of government since he already had control of the executive and legislative branches. If it hadn't been for the jobs created for the pre-build-up to World War Two and the jobs created by the Lend-Lease the economy would have never grown in the late 30's and into the 40's.

American's were in so much fear and the image Roosevelt presented on the radio that he had a monarchy and dictator like presence to the average American.

You liberals kill me....you preach how important individual liberties are....but you totally ignore that Roosevelt trampled on those liberties more than any President in modern time. If he had lived he probably would have keep running to be President for life and would have gone to any measure to guarantee he would be.

As long as we are going to make this a seminar on ancient history, I vote for John Adams and the Alien and Sedition Act.

But as much as this provocative little tid-bit may help Beachman in his continuing quest to take his mind off of current-day realities, November 4 is coming baby, and it's gonna get you real good.

Obama.....Socialism

By Laguy on Monday, October 27, 2008 - 06:08 am:  Edit

One of the most striking things about the youtube "video" are the clicks indicating places where material was edited. I would like to hear the full interview, not just those clauses someone who is trying to make an anti-Obama point decided to include.

Having said this, one of the core issues Obama seems to be addressing in the interview is the disparity in the educations provided to children in poor school districts versus rich school districts. This has been a tricky issue for the courts and for legislators. If providing equal educational opportunities for all school-aged children constitutes redistributing wealth, then I guess redistributing wealth in this context has a lot of merit.

And if one wants to define providing public school education through high school as socialism, I suppose that would make socialism (according to that particular definition) a fine thing.

Having said all this, it is really pathetic how some people try to distort candidates' views by applying jingoistic labels to try to strike fear. I will use a label though that is not a distortion at all: those who allow themselves to be manipulated by such labels are morons.

tax
It amazes me that McCain is calling Obama's tax plan socialism. As the graph indicates above, one of the greatest redistribution's of wealth in the history of the companyh occurred in 2000. Bush's tax cuts were enormous. These were to the rich people only. And based on this graph, they did not create jobs unless those new jobs were not tax paying!

All Obama is doing is undoing some of the mess that Bush created.

I have to agree with Bushman about one issue. The way things are shaping up, Obama is going to win by a landslide and on his coat tails a ton of Congressional seats as well. Obama will have more power than any president during my lifetime. After watching Bush mangle EVERYTHING American, it is clear the harms of unbridled power in one party.

But what is the choice? McCain? Although it worries me that the Democrats might get out of control, it truly scares me to the bottom of my stomach to think of 4 years of McCain/Palin following 8 years of Bush/Cheney.

Although this factor would only flatten the curve a little bit (if taxes per capita were graphed), the population of the United States has increased by about 50 percent since 1970.

I would, however, also be interested in charts that show tax growth by type of tax. I assume the chart above includes more than personal income tax.

[Incidentally, when I looked at the graph above and responded with this message, for some reason BT's text did not show on my computer. So, my comment was not a reaction to his text, only to what I thought was a bare chart without any commentary]

Back in 2000 the debates were about what to do with all the extra money the government had. Eight years of misguided rule has brought us on the brink of a depression, the worst economic conditions since the 1930s. Anyone voting for McCain and continuing the Bush administration policies is an idiot at this point. I'll take a random choice anywhere from complete evil to unbridled good at this stage rather than more Republicans.

LA Guy,

The chart is from Perot Charts. It is truly an awesome site. There are tons and tons of charts on the financial activity of our government. Like Ross Perot or not, he loves looking at charts, and frankly that is the way that I have analyzed businesses. Through charts.

Socialism, when compared to the grotesque mutilization of what was once a system called "conservatism", is a fairly benign system.

Conservative "values" have become synonymous with a mean-spirited evil that is the dark desires of the worst our society has to offer. When that fact is realized by the misled, the sooner we can return to a society that, even when disagreeing, favors what is good for the country.

It is interesting to note a retreat from the the universal chant of "conservative" values from many of the republican candidates. Perhaps they have realized how wrongly the term has been mutilated with a movement bent on supporting every antonym of the word "fairness". Once, conservatism was an honored economic philosophy that limited invasion into the personal lives of the citizens and favored a level playing field.

Bless the misled of recent years, for they knew not what they did. At least I hope they knew not what they did. If it is clear that they knew what they were doing, perhaps they need to be invited outside for a little batting practice.

I love my socialist Libraries, Fire Department and Trash Pickup. I believe the government,as they are us, should manage all our community assets and keep the idea of profit completely away from them. In the long run It will cost us all less if the management of the commons are treated as a stewardship instead of business opportunity. I don't want my government manufacturing goods or running factories so I'm not a straight up socialist.

Of coarse the criticism leveled at Obama is completely manufactured. All he wants to do is return the tax rates for the wealthy back to where they were during Clinton and give the middle class a much needed tax break, that has absolutely nothing even remotely to do with Socialism. I say roll back
taxes back to the Eisenhouer's administration, any one making more than three and half million pays 91% . If it's good enough for Ike it's good enough for me. At least let's roll back Reagan's taxes cuts to the wealthy and not be pussies.

I have to say I'm enjoying watching all these conservative slime sacks blow in the wind around these tactics for a change. I'm not sure why it not working this time I'm just glad it's not.

A 91% tax rate - on anyone at any income level - is my definition of obscenity.

By Tjuncle on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 - 09:35 am:  Edit

A 91% tax rate does sound extreme to me actually but this was how we got among other things the interstate highway system which made wealth possible for many. I guess that dropped to 71% between Kennedy and Reagan but I hear many loopholes we're closed. Then along came Ronnie....

Roll Back the Reagan Tax Cuts
(this is just a piece, the whole article is really thought provoking)

http://www.thomhartmann.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1&Itemid=38

Reagan promptly cut income taxes on the very rich from 70% down to 27%. Corporate tax rates were also cut so severely that they went from representing over 33% of total federal tax receipts in 1951 to less than 9% in 1983 (they’re still in that neighborhood, the lowest in the industrialized world).

The result was devastating. Our government was suddenly so badly awash in red ink that Reagan doubled the tax paid only by people earning less than $40,000/year (FICA), and then began borrowing from the huge surplus this new tax was accumulating in the Social Security Trust Fund. Even with that, Reagan had to borrow more money in his 8 years than the sum total of all presidents from George Washington to Jimmy Carter combined.

In addition to badly throwing the nation into debt, Reagan’s tax cut blew out the ceiling on the accumulation of wealth, leading to a new Gilded Age and the rise of a generation of super-wealthy that hadn’t been seen since the Robber Baron era of the 1890s or the Roaring 20s.

And, most tragically, Reagan’s tax cuts caused America to stop investing in infrastructure. As a nation, we’ve been coasting since the early 1980s, living on borrowed money while we burn through (in some cases literally) the hospitals, roads, bridges, steam tunnels, and other infrastructure we built in the Golden Age of the Middle Class between the 1940s and the 1980s.

We even stopped investing in the intellectual infrastructure of this nation: college education. A degree that a student in the 1970s could have paid for by working as a waitress at a Howard Johnson’s restaurant now means incurring massive and life-altering debt for all but the very wealthy. Reagan, who as governor ended free tuition at the University of California, put into place the foundations for the explosion in college tuition we see today.

More from
Roll Back the Reagan Tax Cuts
and FYI this article was written Monday, 06 August 2007, so these numbers have only gotten, and will get, worse

Since Bush has been president:

over 5 million people have slipped into poverty;
nearly 7 million Americans have lost their health insurance;
median household income has gone down by nearly $1,300;
three million manufacturing jobs have been lost;
three million American workers have lost their pensions;
home foreclosures are now the highest on record;
the personal savings rate is below zero - which hasn’t happened since the great depression;
the real earnings of college graduates have gone down by about 5% in the last few years;
entry level wages for male and female high school graduates have fallen by over 3%;
wages and salaries are now at the lowest share of GDP since 1929.

The debate about whether or not to roll Bush’s tax cuts back to Clinton’s modest mid-30% rates is absurd. It’s time to roll back the horribly failed experiment of the Reagan tax cuts. And use that money to pay down Reagan’s debt and rebuild this nation.

Apparently if you expect the standard of living that was set by the WWII generation you have to be willing to pay for it,otherwise you end up with a crash and burn and America as a third world nation. Reagan and both Bushes didn't stop spending money they just stopped paying the bills. We honestly have to decide what we want.
Most of America seems to be saying yes to Obama and no to McCain, let's hope for the best.

I know that many of you are sick and tired of all this political BS but if
you read just one more thing between now and next month's election, I urge
you to read the following editorial. It is unknown who "Michael Masters" is
or what he does, but he does write cogently and well. A Google search turns
up a Michael Masters who is a lawyer in Philadelphia, but I don't believe
that he is the author of this open letter. There is a "Michael C. Masters"
who lives in McLean, VA – It is presumed, but not known for sure, that he is
the author. However, he didn't show up in any Google searches that were
conducted, so it is supposed that he isn't "notorious" enough to be found.
That may be a good thing, however. On the surface, that suggests he is just
another citizen like the rest of us and has no particular ax to grind.
However, he HAS done his homework before writing this editorial.

To Barack Hussein Obama,
The New York Times carried a story on Saturday, October 4, 2008, that proved
you had a significantly closer relationship with Bill Ayers than what you
previously admitted. While the issue of your relationship is of concern,
the greater concern is that you lied to America about it.
The Chicago Sun reported on May 8, 2008, that FBI records showed that you
had a significantly closer relationship with Tony Rezko than what you
previously admitted. In the interview, you said that you only saw Mr.
Rezko a couple of times a year. The FBI files showed that you saw him
weekly. While the issue of your relationship is of concern, the greater
concern is that you lied to America about it.
Your speech in Philadelphia on March 18, 2008, about "race" contradicted
your statement to Anderson Cooper on March 14 when you said that you never
heard Reverend Wright make his negative statements about white America.
While your attendance at Trinity Church for 20 years is of concern, the
greater concern is that you lied to America on March 14.
In your 1st debate with John McCain, you said that you never said that you
would meet with the leaders of Cuba, Venezuela, Iran, and North Korea
without "preparations" at lower levels ... Joe Biden repeated your words in
his debate with Sarah Palin ... while the video tape from your debate last
February clearly shows that you answered "I would" to the question of
meeting with those leaders within 12 months without "any" preconditions.
While your judgement about meeting with enemies of the USA without
pre-conditions is of concern, the greater concern is that you lied to
America in the debate with McCain.
On July 14, 2008, you said that you always knew that the surge would work
while the video tapes of you from more than a year ago show that you stated
that the surge would not work. While your judgement about military
strategy as a potential commander-in-chief is of concern, the greater
concern is that you lied to America on July 14.
You now claim that your reason for voting against funding for the troops was
because the bill did not include a time line for withdrawal, while the video
tapes of you from more than a year ago show that you voted against
additional funding because you wanted our troops to be removed immediately
.... not in 16 months after the 2008 election as you now claim. While your
judgement about removing our troops unilaterally in 2007 is of concern, the
greater concern is that you lied to America about your previous position.
You claim to have a record of working with Republicans while the record
shows that the only bill that you sponsored with a Republican was with Chuck
Lugar ... and it failed. The record shows that you vote 97% in concert with
the Democrat party and that you have the most liberal voting record in the
Senate. You joined Republicans only 13% of the time in your votes and those
13% were only after agreement from the Democrat party. While it is of
concern that you fail to include conservatives in your actions and that you
are such a liberal, the greater concern is that you distorted the truth.
In the primary debates of last February, 2008, you claimed to have talked
with a "Captain" of a platoon in Afghanistan "the other day" when in fact
you had a discussion in 2003 with a Lieutenant who had just been deployed to
Afghanistan. You lied in that debate.
In your debates last spring, you claimed to have been a "professor of
Constitutional law" when in fact you have never been a professor of
Constitutional law. In this last debate, you were careful to say that you
"taught a law class" and never mentioned being a "professor of
Constitutional law." You lied last spring.
You and Joe Biden both claimed that John McCain voted against additional
funding for our troops when the actual records show the opposite. You
distorted the truth.
You and Joe Biden claim that John McCain voted against funding for alternate
energy sources 20 times when the record shows that John McCain specifically
voted against funding for bio fuels, especially corn ... and he was right
..... corn is too expensive at producing ethanol, and using corn to make
ethanol increased the price of corn from $2 a bushel to $6 a bushel for
food. You distorted the truth.
You and Joe Biden claim that John McCain voted like both of you for a tax
increase on those making as little as $42,000 per year while the voting
record clearly shows that John McCain did not vote as you and Joe Biden.
You lied to America.
You and Joe Biden claim that John McCain voted with George W. Bush 90% of
the time when you know that Democrats also vote 90% of the time with the
President (including Joe Biden) because the vast majority of the votes are
procedural. You are one of the few who has not voted 90% of the time with
the president because you have been missing from the Senate since the day
you got elected. While your absence from your job in the Senate is of
concern, the greater concern is that you spin the facts.
You did not take an active role in the rescue plan. You claimed that the
Senate did not need you while the real reason that you abstained was because
of your close relationships with the executives of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac,
Countrywide, and Acorn ... who all helped cause the financial problems of
today ... and they all made major contributions to your campaign. While
your relationship with these executives and your protection of them for your
brief 3 years in the Senate (along with Barney Frank, Chuck Schumer, Maxine
Waters, and Chris Dodd) is of concern, the greater concern is that you are
being deceitful.
You forgot to mention that you personally represented Tony Rezko and
Acorn. Tony Rezko, an Arab and close friend to you, was convicted of fraud
in Chicago real estate transactions that bilked millions of tax dollars from
the Illinois government for renovation projects that you sponsored as a
state senator ... and Acorn has been convicted of voter fraud, real estate
sub prime loan intimidation, and illegal campaign contributions. Tony Rezko
has contributed hundreds of thousands of dollars to your political
campaigns. You personally used your political positions to steer money to
both Tony Rezko and Acorn and you used Acorn to register thousands of phony
voters for Democrats and you. While your relationships with Rezko and Acorn
are of concern, the greater concern is that you omitted important facts
about your relationships with them to America.
During your campaign, you said: "typical white person." "They cling to
their guns and religion." "They will say that I am black." You played the
race card. You tried to label any criticism about you as racist. You
divide America.
You claim that you will reduce taxes for 95% of America, but you forgot to
tell America that those reductions are after you remove the Bush tax
reductions. You have requested close to $1 billion in earmarks and several
million for Acorn. Your social programs will cost America $1 trillion per
year and you claim that a reduction in military spending ($100 billion for
Iraq) can pay for it. While your economic plan of adding 30% to the size
of our federal government is of concern, the greater concern is that you are
deceiving America
The drain to America's economy by foreign supplied oil is $700 billion per
year (5% of GDP) while the war in Iraq is $100 billion (less than 1% of
GDP). You voted against any increases to oil exploration for the last 3
years and any expansion of nuclear facilities. Yet today, you say that you
have always been for more oil and more nuclear. You are lying to America.
Mr. Obama, you claimed that you "changed" your mind about public financing
for your campaign because of the money spent by Republican PACs in 2004.
The truth is that the Democrat PACs in 2004, 2006, and 2008 spent twice as
much as the Republican PACs (especially George Soros and MoveOn.org). You
are lying to America.
Mr. Obama, you have done nothing to stop the actions of the teachers
union and college professors in the USA. They eliminated religion from our
history. They teach pro gay agendas and discuss sex with students as young
as first grade. They bring their personal politics into the classrooms.
They disparage conservatives. They brainwash our children. They are in it
for themselves ..... not America. Are you reluctant to condemn their
actions because teachers/professors and the NEA contribute 25% of all money
donated to Democrats and none to Republicans? You are deceiving America.
Oh, Mr. Obama, Teddy Roosevelt said about a hundred years ago that we
Americans should first look at the character of our leaders before anything
else.
Your character looks horrible. While you make good speeches, motivating
speeches, your character does not match your rhetoric. You talk the talk,
but do not walk the walk.
1. You lied to America. You lied many times. You distorted facts. You
parsed your answers like a lawyer.
2. You distorted the record of John McCain in your words and in your
advertisements.
3. You had associations with some very bad people for your personal
political gains and then lied about those associations.
4. You divide America about race and about class.
Now let me compare your record of lies, distortions, race baiting, and
associations to John McCain: War hero. Annapolis graduate with "Country
first." Operational leadership experience like all 43 previously elected
presidents of the USA as a Navy officer for 22 years. 26 years in the
Senate. Straight talk. Maverick. 54% of the time participated on bills
with Democrats. Never asked for an earmark. The only blemish on his record
is his part in the Keating 5 debacle about 25 years ago.
Mr. Obama, at Harvard Law School, you learned that the end does not justify
the means. You learned that perjury, false witness, dishonesty, distortion
of truth are never tolerated. Yet, your dishonesty is overwhelming. Your
dishonesty is tremendously greater than the dishonesty that caused the
impeachment and disbarment of Bill Clinton. Your dishonesty is tremendously
greater than the dishonesty of Scooter Libby. You should be ashamed.
Mr. Obama, it is time for us Americans to put aside our differences on
political issues and vote against you because of your dishonest character.
It is time for all of us Americans to put aside our political issues and
vote for America first. It is time for America to vote for honesty.
Any people who vote for you after understanding that you are dishonest
should be ashamed of themselves for making their personal political issues
more important than character. Would these same people vote for the
anti-Christ if the anti-Christ promised them riches? Would they make a
golden calf while Moses was up the mountain? Would they hire someone for a
job if that someone lied in an interview? Of course not. So why do some of
these people justify their votes for you even though they know you are
dishonest? Why do they excuse your dishonesty? Because some of these
people are frightened about the future, the economy, and their financial
security .... and you are preying on their fears with empty promises ....
and because some (especially our young people) are consumed by your
wonderful style and promises for "change" like the Germans who voted for
Adolf Hitler in 1932. The greed/envy by Germans in 1932 kept them from
recognizing Hitler for who he was. They loved his style. Greed and envy
are keeping many Americans from recognizing you ... your style has
camouflaged your dishonesty .... but many of us see you for who you really
are ... and we will not stop exposing who you are every day, forever if
it is necessary.
Mr. Obama, you are dishonest. Anyone who votes for you is enabling
dishonesty.
Mr. Obama, America cannot trust that you will put America first in your
decisions about the future.
Mr. Obama, you are not the "change" that America deserves. We cannot
trust you.
Mr. Obama, You are not ready and not fit to be commander-in-chief.
Mr. Obama, John McCain does not have as much money as your campaign to
refute all of your false statements. And for whatever reasons, the
mainstream media will not give adequate coverage or research about your
lies, distortions, word parsing, bad associations, race baiting, lack of
operational leadership experience, and generally dishonest character. The
media is diverting our attention from your relationships and ignoring the
fact that you lied about those relationships. The fact that you lied is
much more important than the relationships themselves .... just like with
Bill Clinton and Richard Nixon ... Monica Lewinski and Watergate were not
nearly as bad as the fact that those men lied about the events ... false
witness ... perjury ... your relationships and bad judgements are bad on
their own .... but your lies are even worse.

Although I can't vouch for everything stated above I know through my own research that at least half of the claims in the the article above is a straight up lie or exaggeration. I don't doubt that under the strictest scrutiny that Obama has stretched the truth or lied on a few occasions, I've actually found several examples of that on the fact checking sites. Next to McCain's record of honest though Obama is a saint, Do yourself a favour and look up

It's a great article and until I read it I didn't think anyone could be worse then Bush but clearly McCain is, don't take my word for it check out the article, and McCain didn't dispute and of the facts.

I don't expect my leaders to be super human I just expect competence, transparency and accountability. I'm hoping the above propaganda represents the end of an era for the politics of hate and division. I don't really expect it but for some reason it's not working now the way it has since Gingrich took the lead in Congress in the 90's. It may be to late and it may not last but for the moment I'm allowing myself just a little hope even though I know better.

Rashid Khalidi (born 1950), an American historian of the Middle East, is the Edward Said Professor of Arab Studies at Columbia University, and director of the Middle East Institute of Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs.

McCain has been involved with Khalidi through the Middle East Institute in way as fund raising. It's another desperate attempt to distract from the real issues, Thank God the LA Times isn't playing. I've mentioned before that I'm astounded the this sh*t isn't working this cycle. I guess America knows it can't afford this kind of stupidity right now. Here you go, issue resolved. Or at least prioritized far below all the other cr*p america has to deal with right now.

Allegations of PLO connections

Khalidi has been accused of having ties to the Palestinian Liberation Organization, based on his work for Wafa in the late 1980s, and later serving as an advisor to the Palestinian delegation during the Madrid Conference of 1991. Khalidi denied the allegation that he served as a PLO spokesman.Khalidi explained that he often spoke to journalists in Beirut, and was usually cited, without attribution, as a well-informed Palestinian source. He also said that he was unaware of any misidentification as a PLO spokesman.

The claim received renewed attention in 2008 when it was raised due to a reported friendship between Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and Khalidi's family when Khalidi taught at the University of Chicago. Articles by Aaron Klein and John Bachelor, writers respectively for World Net Daily and Human Events, were referenced by rival political campaigns and reprinted in wider-circulation media

Leachman,

Michael Masters is a pseudonym (do you understand what that is?) of a campaign staff member for McCain. He didn't "do his homework;" he made stuff up. Just because you want to believe it doesn't make it true. That's why many of the major papers have run "fact checker" columns over the past 6 months, and virtually all of the claims in that piece have already been listed as factually inaccurate.

Hey, if you want to vote in my State and cancel out my vote for President, all power to you. Since I hail from the United Northern and Coastal States of America (as opposed to the Confederacy), Obama is going to win my State no matter what.

I am going to make one final prediction about the election: In a desperate attempt to shake things up one last time and solidify his only remaining base (i.e, unlicensed plumbers with fake names and outstanding tax liens) McCain is going to dump Palin and replace him with Joe the Plumber, who it will be shown is more qualified to be VP than she. Then, to try to chill out and forget her humiliating failure as a VP candidate, Palin will go moose hunting with Cheney and get shot in the face thereby turning Harry Whittington (the shot in the face guy) into the new Tina Fey (i.e., a Palin impersonator).

You read it here first.

You may be right Sancho, the whole voter fraud thing started when Acorn pointed out the erroneous voter registrations as they are obligated to. Pointing out what you will later be accused of conspiring to do in order to adhere to the law is a really backwards way of running a conspiracy, I have to say.

Fraudulent voter registration is a long, long way from voter fraud, Mickey mouse is not really showing up to vote.
It amazing that while the Republicans are whining about acorn this is happening

States have purged some 13 million voters from the voter rolls since 2004, Joe Rothstein reports for U.S. Politics Today.

On a serious note for once. On the topic of unlicensed plumbers with fake names and outstanding tax liens. "Joe the Plumber" is irrelevant to me. What is PROFOUNDLY relevant to me is that the freedom loving left, gleefully employed the full Big Brother powers at their disposal to dig through massive government databases for the express purpose of violating the guys privacy in any and every way possible. Just to dig dirt on the guy. Simply because Obama botched one answer on videotape.

This is EXACTLY the type of thing that utterly destroys any hope I may have of a left wing government rolling back any of the recent destruction of Constitutional rights. The Irony is that the Big Brother tools of the Patriot Act and many other destruction's of our right to privacy brought to you by the Republicans will soon be widely deployed by the left for settling political scores against the right. I predict we see more warrantless wiretaps, national security letters and sneak and peek warrants used in '10 than are used in '08.

I betcha' "Joe the Plumber" doesn't have a library card because if he did, we would certainly be hearing what books he's checked out.

And admit it. From a campaign perspective, Obama botched one answer to an obviously partisan question . I could have spun it better and so could have Obama. "Joe the Plumber" is an irrelevant pawn.

I personally am known by my middle name to most people in the real world so the "fake name" charge applies to me as well. Plumbers only need a license when they own their own business which Joe the Plumber does not. He works for someone else who apparently has a license.

By Beachman on Thursday, October 30, 2008 - 10:57 am:  Edit

Frankly.....I am astonished by McCain using "Joe the Plumber" as a symbol in his campaign. Everybody should be criticizing the fact that he owes back taxes. I personally feel until he is current on his taxes he should be ashamed of himself to be acting like a big shot talking about buying a business when he can't even pay his taxes.

That is the problem in America.....everyone feels they are entitled to more when they can't even handle what is on their plate. Most everyone one is living beyond their means.

Of course, Obama will make sure everyone gets their fair share....he has already lowered from $250,000 to $200,000 the income limit where you will get a tax break. The campaign isn't even over yet.......within one year it will be down to $50,000.

But you do make an interesting suggestion that I'll have to consider. It may even be better than the one I have to this point advocated: arranging for the conservative Supreme Court to rule the Civil War was a violation of States Rights and should be revoked thereby dividing the country into the United Northern and Coastal States of America on the one hand, and the Confederacy on the other. Of course, the UNCSA would take custody of the nuclear arsenal, and the UNCSA would impose its Socialist ideology on the Confederacy (by force if necessary) by preventing it from re-introducing slavery. Also, there would be an escape clause for States that otherwise would have to join the Confederacy: Vote Blue and Join the Confederacy you won't have to do!

Bwana dik-

Your brain must have syphilis from from 3 dollar whores you exploited in Ethiopia. You screwed one for 3 dollars and then you wanted 2 for 3 dollars each.

From your posting:

"I spent several days and evenings outside the capitol visiting some rural communities (work related, don't ask...). Out in these places my accommodations were a bit more basic (room with a bed, squat toilet, barrel of water for washing, etc.). But prostitutes were available even out in these very, very small towns. The first evening I checked into a guest house/hotel, the proprietor asked if I wanted a woman. I said I'd be interested, and he said he'd send a group up for me to look at. About 20 minutes later 5 women showed up at my door. Two were clearly significantly under-aged, no more than 16, and I sent them packing. I chose one who was 19, and she spent the night. These rural girls come from such poor families that they will do almost anything to sleep in a real bed. The cost? 30 birr, or $3.20! Three dollars is three times the average daily income of the people living in these areas. The sex was timid but acceptable given the price, and I got the sense that I could have done anything I wanted. Blowjobs were still not on the menu. The first girl wanted to go bareback, but having visited several AIDS clinics in Addis over the previous several days, that wasn't going to happen. Both Ethiopian govt. and UNAIDS data indicate that about 40% of Ethiopian prostitutes are HIV+."

The proprietor sending you a group of 5 girls......2 of them clearly underage. Do you think these girls were there on their own free will? You can't tell us you don't know about the sex trade in Ethiopia!

You go to Ethiopia and make it sound like you are there for some humanitarian cause and you brag about exploiting the the poor starving peasant women of Ethiopia that you screwed for 3 dollars.

You are all about hate and your pathetic attempt to name call on a board like this just shows how fucking stupid you are. Your attempt to try to label me as a racist is lame. Especially when you take in account your go to maybe the poorest country in the World and exploit starving women who probably were brought to you as sex slaves by pimps so you could screw them for 3 dollars.

Be careful who you accuse of being racist of being racist when you freely admit and brag about how you screw and exploit sex slaves in Ethiopia.

I don't blame Joe the Plumber. I don't blame McCain. I blame the idiot in his campaign who pulled a post off of Drudge's website in the first place and turned his guy's presidential campaign in to an embarrassment. Think about that - a Presidential debate, in a Presidential campaign, and the best they come up with as a leading "wedge" issue is a video clip off of a website. Zero vetting, zero thought. That's almost scary. Of course, that's how they selected Palin as well.

By Bwana_dik on Thursday, October 30, 2008 - 04:31 pm:  Edit

Who called you a racist, Leechman? I implied that you're retarded. Your posted reply confirms the diagnosis.

BTW, have you been to Ethiopia? Or are you just blathering on about a culture you know nothing about? Do you have any idea how prevalent prostitution is in Ethiopia? And that there's surprisingly little stigma attached to being a prostitute or, for single men, using their services? And I never saw any indication that pimps were involved anywhere in the sex business. Do your homework, Leechman, and learn something about the culture before you start spouting off from your cave in Florida.

Answer me this, Leechman: are you morally opposed to prostitution? It's a simple question, actually. If yes, what are you doing on this board. If no, what's your objection to the fact I paid $3 for sex? Is it that I got too good a deal and you're jealous? Given that I paid exactly what the girls requested, how is it that I took advantage of them? I didn't have sex with underage girls, I paid market price, and everyone seemed happy at the end of the day. The hotel owners didn't get a cut; this just turns out to be a standard and expected service in many hotels. Even the Hilton apparently encourages whores to hang out, as their presence attracts customers. By paying $3 for an hour's employment, I tripled the usual daily wages for a family in that part of the country. I suppose you'd have been happier if I'd paid more? And what difference would that make?

If I were a psychologist, I'd say there's something meaningful about your mistaken claim that I called you a racist.

Hey! Laguy!
The election is last week's weather. All my efforts are now devoted to my "batting practice" initiative. I found out that Louisville Sluggers are pricey and do not give the bulk order pricing advantage that other bat suppliers are more than happy to give.

Yes, I have been extremely busy with my latest social work program. Over 400 baseball bats have been issued to those persons with the most need for free-swinging relief. It is amazing how touched the recipients are when they receive a shiny new bat as they leave the un-employment benefits office, leaving their workplace for the last time or a "payday" loan location.

Starting tomorrow, I will be issuing Ted Williams classic "swing level for power" video to get the absolute most satisfaction for your swinging effort.

LaGuy, it is true that I am hampered what effect my meager 27 (so far) votes will do in my geographic location. But social work has been a very satisfying hobby of mine for a long time. To be in a position to give folks who have lost their job to get a bit of home run derby tension relief might be the best project that I have been involved in for a very long time.

Elbows in, increase bat speed.....step into your swing. Keep your eye on the ball, think maximum contact.

Have a heart. Batting practice is one of your best friends when others have been attempting to steal the game with a few purchased bad calls. Donate a few bats to the recently foreclosed-on in your neighborhood

This is my story, this is my song...

Just as many of the Republican's negative ads this election season have backfired and caused uncommitted voters to vote for Democrats, I am wondering whether some hardcore Democrat is planting Beachman's posts in an attempt to likewise convince the mongering community to vote for Democrats.

My theory is Beachman is really Al Gore playing one of his practical jokes on us and simultaneously getting his revenge on Florida and the Republican party.

Of course there are other possibilities, the most dreadful of which is that Beachman is just the stupid fuck he appears to be.

10 things you should know about John McCain

http://bligbi.com/2008/04/09/10-things-you-should-know-about-john-mccain/

1. John McCain voted against establishing a national holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Now he says his position has “evolved,” yet he’s continued to oppose key civil rights laws.1

2. According to Bloomberg News, McCain is more hawkish than Bush on Iraq, Russia and China. Conservative columnist Pat Buchanan says McCain “will make Cheney look like Gandhi.”2

3. His reputation is built on his opposition to torture, but McCain voted against a bill to ban waterboarding, and then applauded President Bush for vetoing that ban.3

4. McCain opposes a woman’s right to choose. He said, “I do not support Roe versus Wade. It should be overturned.”4

5. The Children’s Defense Fund rated McCain as the worst senator in Congress for children. He voted against the children’s health care bill last year, then defended Bush’s veto of the bill.5

6. He’s one of the richest people in a Senate filled with millionaires. The Associated Press reports he and his wife own at least eight homes! Yet McCain says the solution to the housing crisis is for people facing foreclosure to get a “second job” and skip their vacations.6

7. Many of McCain’s fellow Republican senators say he’s too reckless to be commander in chief. One Republican senator said: “The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He’s erratic. He’s hotheaded. He loses his temper and he worries me.”7

8. McCain talks a lot about taking on special interests, but his campaign manager and top advisers are actually lobbyists. The government watchdog group Public Citizen says McCain has 59 lobbyists raising money for his campaign, more than any of the other presidential candidates.8

9. McCain has sought closer ties to the extreme religious right in recent years. The pastor McCain calls his “spiritual guide,” Rod Parsley, believes America’s founding mission is to destroy Islam, which he calls a “false religion.” McCain sought the political support of right-wing preacher John Hagee, who believes Hurricane Katrina was God’s punishment for gay rights and called the Catholic Church “the Antichrist” and a “false cult.”9

10. He positions himself as pro-environment, but he scored a 0—yes, zero—from the League of Conservation Voters last year.10

Study Shows Virtually No Evidence of Voter Fraud

The Republicans have been talking a lot about voter fraud, but yet another study shows that it barely exists. Politico has a story in which a reporter pressed Ronald Michaelson, a veteran election administrator who is now working for the McCain campaign, to cite a single documented case of voter fraud that resulted from a phony registration and he could not come up with even one example. When asked, another McCain official, Ben Porritt, came up with 13 articles. However, 11 of these did not involve registration fraud at all and only one involved a noncitizen voting. While there is no doubt that low-paid workers for ACORN and other groups have turned in false registrations to ACORN (to earn a bit more), the organization itself selects out the clearly bogus ones and puts these in a separate envelope before turning them in (as required by law). This is how the bogus registrations get in the news. However, documented cases of bogus registrations actually leading to illegal voting are virtually nonexistent as the fraud being committed is the low-paid workers defrauding ACORN itself of a bit of money, not actual voting fraud.

Well, here is the latest breaking news.

According to Club Hombre's Poll of Polls 57 votes have been cast in the "Uncovered Blow Job" poll, and 45 votes in the "Next US President" poll. This projects to almost certain defeat for the "Next US President" poll. The percentage difference between these two polls is almost precisely the same as the percentage difference between Obama and McCain in the latest reported presidential polls.

I don't know what this all means, but I am sure David Gergen and the other talking heads on CNN would be able to come up with something to say on the subject if given the chance.

Anyone else getting damn tired of McCain using his wife as a Barbie doll prop during each and every one of his speeches? I don't remember seeing a single recent McCain speech in which she wasn't in the television frame just behind McCain, with a pasted on smile and head bobbing up and down throughout the speech.

I find this whole Cindy McCain as obvious prop thing rather bizarre.

By Branquinho on Monday, November 03, 2008 - 12:08 pm:  Edit

I'm sure Cindy must be hitting the painkillers again in order to endure her hubby's canned speech AND the knowledge that he's flushed a considerable portion of HER fortune down the toilet.

Hey guys.... hypothetically.... on the very slight chance McCain doesn't win in a landslide tomorrow........... You guys don't have any hard feelings do you??? We're all still pal's right???

Hey!!! who taped this target on my back??? And why are all those guys in brown shirts standing around my house??? I'm not expecting any packages from UPS. What are they talking about dekulakization?????

My theory is that Rove is trying to encourage complacency on the part of Obama supporters. Why vote if it's going to be a blowout?

Rove was, is, and ever more shall be a slime ball.

He didn't post the negative McCain margin for DC. I'm predicting 91% Obama - 8% McCain - 1% Other in The District. But let's be nice, assume he does better there, and only has a -80% margin of loss

Beachworm, You are undoubtedly looking for a physician to prescribe some pills to deal with your post election depression. May I recommend Dr. Jack Kevorkian, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan

So, do you think that FOX News will spend much more time on voter registration fraud investigations? And what happened to Joe the Plumber?

Beachman's congressional district also flipped from Republican to Democratic. I would put out a suicide watch on the nutbar if I actually gave a shit.

By Bwana_dik on Wednesday, November 05, 2008 - 09:49 am:  Edit

I flipped to Fox (Fux) News a few times last night. The mood varied between angry and downright funereal.

The recriminations have already begun. The usual Fux commentators are already blathering on about this election representing the failure of the mainstream Republican ideology/philosophy, and pointing to a clear need to move further to the right.

Pretty fucking funny. As one journalist noted the other day, while some are calling Sarah Palin the "future of the Republican Party," nothing could be further from the truth. She represents the past, and specifically that part of the past that is largely responsible for what happened yesterday.

By Beachman on Wednesday, November 05, 2008 - 09:50 am:  Edit

The people voted and they voted for Obama. Like it or not I wish him the best of luck in doing what is right for these country not only now but fo the future of our country!

They didn't care he pledged to take public financing and instead broke his pledge and spent over 650 million dollars and a media that gave him millions of dollars of more free positive coverage.

This is how our democracy works and we have to accept and hope that Obama and the Democratic Congress can deliver on their promise of positive change. I hope so for the sake of our country's present and future.

History tends to repeat itself and the great democratic icon Roosevelt made many of the promises of change that Obama has made.....and history shows that World World Two is what brought us out of the Great Depression. Let's hope that it does not take a World War to bring the change Obama talks about.

Should we start a new thread (preferably invisible) in which Beachman could talk to himself and mentally masterbate about his grievances against Franklin Roosevelt and the New Deal?

Yeah, the republicans lost because they became very good at being who they actually are. Their solution is: Get even better at it.

More simply put, their solution for getting out of the hole that they dug is to dig harder.

Beechman, normally I would have a great deal of angst trying to convince myself to help you out of a jam. But when you quoted UCLA "scholars" to make your point, the collective cerebrum of this forum burst into pure, unrestrained laughter. Until this latest post, we did not realize that you were such an absurdist, playing with our gullible ways. But when you refererenced the UCLA as a credible source, we knew that you had been playing us! Wait, don't tell me! You are Obama's nephew, right?

God! You had us going. Many of us were thinking that you were merely a fucking idiot. As it turns out, you were doing a number on us!!!

have a day. Fuck, I feel good about you. Have two days.

Looking forward to seeing you at the Barry's Sunday Night beer 'n' popcorn poker fest.

Basing a public position on the UCLA braintrust: balls the size of cantaloupes, diasscociation from truth or just a pussy who so impressed with a football team that has a college associated with it. Whichever it was, great play!

Beachman! Brother! you had me going there for a bit! Le't get together later and go out for a little batting practice on WallStreet. Remember the NEW PORN sensation is: Slow motion, high definition video of highspeed baseball bat entering the facial contours of a recent goldenparachute refugee. The post facial scene fades to the actual names, addressesof residences and social habits of Royal American Order of the golden parachute. The new "facial".

Please keep it up, Beechie. Sorry for falling for your charade so completely.

Have a day that you can sucessfully manage. Extra toilet paper may help but never seriously damage a social event.

some asshole keeps mumbling "might makes right"
blissman keeps a ranting "right makes might"

Abe Lincoln sorta said "Do say we will prevail be cause "god is on our side". What is actually important is whether we are on God's side."

Actually, this is sorta tangled up and is beginning to not make sense. If I do not bow out quick I will be nominated to do something I know nothing about but can look confidant while not doing it. Example: want a horse show lawyer who had recently gotten fired to become the head of FEMA..
