Just saw this one again. Wow, what a masterpiece! It is vaguely related to the "hobby". Brilliant black comedy, thriller, etc. I think it got a Sundance award or something. IMO this movie succeeds where Pulp Fiction fails. (I fuckin' can't stand what's-his-name...)

Three thumbs up! (Hey, that's not a thumb...)

By Happyboy on Sunday, December 08, 2002 - 11:05 pm:  Edit

where pulp fiction fails?? Mr. bill, pulp fiction is one of the best crime genre movies ever made.. also won numerous awards, including best film at Cannes ..and was Oscar nominated for best pic in 1994.... if whats-his-name you are referring to is Taratino, remember, it was robert rodriquez and him who gave the most beautiful woman in the world her first big break in desperado.. SALMA HYEK!!

By Snapper on Monday, December 09, 2002 - 02:30 am:  Edit

Reese Witherspoon was really hot in a "little slut" kinda way in that movie. Now she has gotten a "I use too much cocaine" face.

Speaking of Salma Hayek, did you guys see Dusk 'Til Dawn? Now there was a winner. That had to be one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The only thing I liked about it was the fact that Cheech Marin played three different characters.

SnapperO ~who likes young slutty actresses with nice racks~

You can see Reese Weetherspoons nice pair of titties if you rent 'Twilight' on DVD. Just watch the first Ten minutes and forget about the rest of the movie.

Freeway is fun. But Pulp Fiction is a classic.

Now Tarantino is making an unbelievably violent flick with Uma Thurman in the lead. Flick's called 'Kill Bill'. Daryl Hannah and Lucy Liu's in it too. Tarantino will finish this flick and start on another movie real quick.

Speaking of Salma Hayek. Rodriguez wanted her for Zorro which he was directing and I heard from the 'inside' that casting decisions got him booted, not budgetery reasons.

By MrBill on Monday, December 09, 2002 - 07:30 pm:  Edit

That's why Tanantino is a hack. He thinks the more graphic the violence, the better filmmaker he is. It's called a gimmick.

By Dickjohnson on Monday, December 09, 2002 - 11:09 pm:  Edit

There isnt ANY violence in Jacky Brown and the violence in Pulp Fiction is REALLY NOT that much, like 2% of saving private Ryan.

People's been hacking off from Tarantino nowadays from Guy Richy to Micheal Bay to every other indie filmmaker.

But 'Kill Bill' will be violent though.

Well... I suppose just because everyone else thinks that Tarantino is so great, it must be true. I guess that makes Shakira a musical genius. Oooooh, look how "edgy" I am by including as much gratuitous, graphic violence in my movies as possible. That means I must be a great filmmaker, right? Some people are so easily impressed..

"How High?" Now THAT was a great movie...

By Bull_Winkle on Tuesday, December 10, 2002 - 09:07 pm:  Edit

MrBill, I agree with you about Tarantino. I am not sure what the fuss is about. The gratuitous, graphic, Sluggo-style violence is a cheap way to keep people awake when the dialogue invariably gets boring.

"I suppose just because everyone else thinks that Tarantino is so great, it must be true." Don't believe everything you read. Unless I wrote it.

My next trip report will be called Pulp Friction

LOL, Mr Winkle, you're the best!! I'll buy you a beer in TJ this weekend at an undisclosed location (for your safety)..

By Happyboy on Tuesday, December 10, 2002 - 10:23 pm:  Edit

Mr. bill. i dont think taratino is the greatest ever, i just like his style of allowing the characters tell the story, Taratino steals a lot of ideas from movies hes watched..as far as violence in taratino films, yeah dusk till dawn was extremely violent, but res dogs, pf, jackie b didnt have lots of "gratuitous, graphic, sluggo-style violence" but i will tell you what, i will rent freeway, and give you my take...
by the way, anyone like The Way of the Gun??

By MrBill on Wednesday, December 11, 2002 - 11:25 am:  Edit

Fair enough, Happy. Honestly, Tarantino might be a very good filmmaker indeed. But I'm just so put off by his gratuitous, Sluggo-style (LOL) violence that it gets in the way of my ejnoyment of the movie. Something about brains being splattered all over the inside of a car being "funny", I just don't get it. But I'll have to watch a couple of his flicks again.

I also highly, highly recommend "Stange Day", "Memento" and "Laws of Gravity".

That should read, "Strange Day".

Milky, there was one bad film that the T man was part of - "Destiny Turned On The Radio". Pure crap.

Pretty much everything else Tarantino has done has been brilliant, though.

By Snapper on Wednesday, December 11, 2002 - 01:25 pm:  Edit

I thought From Dusk Till Dawn was horrible.

By Kendricks on Wednesday, December 11, 2002 - 02:09 pm:  Edit

I loved every minute of Dusk Till Dawn. Especially Salma Hayek's performance.

By Dickjohnson on Wednesday, December 11, 2002 - 03:57 pm:  Edit

There shoulda been more mongering in From D2D. Clooney and Tarantino was in a brothel with a shit load of cash and they never got laid!

If only us monger were making that film it would've been half an hour longer with all kinds of mongering activities thrown in. With Milky flirting with the girls, Snapper telling his friend to not get married to a dancer, Ceenotes talking shit, Mr Bill bitchin bout movie violence, DJ trying to get some GFE, Dogster smokin his cigar, Pecs bitchin bout his shrewd wife...

Anyway if you guys thought the brains splattered inside the car was too much, that wsn't how it was original supposed to happen. I have an actual copy of an earlier draft of the script and here's how it goes...

They pick up Marvin, the black kid(who's friends tried to double cross Marsellies and got shot by Travolta and Sam Jackson).

So Travolta is talking about 'There was no divine intervention, God didn't come down and stop the bullets...' and BANG! His gun went off and shot Marvin in the NECK!

So Marvin was holding his neck and blood gurgling out of his mouth. Sam Jackson said 'Holy Christ Almighty' Travolta apologized and started arguing with Jackson about what to do. Travolta said the best thing to do now is to take the man out of his misery. Marvin's eyes bulge but can't say anything.

S Jackson said "Marvin I just want you to know I have nothing to do with this, this is just so uncool."

Travolta points the gun with the other hand blocking any blood that might splash to himself... BANG!..and the whole car is red.

I forgot to add Athos kissing a chica and Ardgneas eating pussy...

DJ, just to clarify, I never told my buddy not to get married to his virgin bar-girl who only "danced there", I just told he needs to protect himself and his assets.

Kendricks, Dusk Till Dawn was way too over the top. That movie was like a slip-stick horror movie. Salma was great thought.

By Kendricks on Wednesday, December 11, 2002 - 07:12 pm:  Edit

Snapper, I agree, it was over the top. That was what I liked about it. At least we can all come together and agree that Salma is a hottie!

By Dickjohnson on Wednesday, December 11, 2002 - 09:31 pm:  Edit

Hope I didn't offend anybody...
Thanks for clarifying Snap.

Now more inside scoop, SALMA WAS SUPPOSED TO STAR IN ZORRO opposite Banderas!

Until whats her name, a Welsh, not Mexican came along...

By Happyboy on Thursday, December 12, 2002 - 12:38 am:  Edit

anyone see Frida yet? i am supposed to see it with this cute latina (non-PRo) it has gotten rave reviews..
As far as Dusk Til Dawn being overviolent, campy, and over the top, Tartatino has said in past interviews that From Dust Til Dawn pays homage to the ultra violent, gory Italian vampire films of the 60s and 70s.. Taratino has a fasination for them, so the Mexican brothel vampire flick is a tribute to all of those great "directors"?? lol...

By Snapper on Thursday, December 12, 2002 - 02:48 am:  Edit

DJ, thanks for reminding me about Zorro. I have something stupid and funny to post. -lol

By Kendricks on Thursday, December 12, 2002 - 08:49 am:  Edit

Frida is an excellent film. Don't hesitate to see it. Salma's performance (and nude scenes) are magnificent, and the overall film is very well done.
