Hi guys. A couple of friends and I have opened up an Executive Office Suite in Medellin called Medellin Office Rentals www.medellinofficerentals.com
We have everything from a visitors office available by the hour, day or week to monthly, 6 month and annual leases. Bi-Linual secretary, local and Vonage lines on our PBX, conference room available for lease and many other services.
The best thing is we are having weekly Sunday BBQ's from 3-7PM on our 1,400 sq ft roof top terrace. It is 30K for guys an 10K for chicas and includes food, drink, music and we will have the 42" plasma hooked up for the NFL games. You do not have to be a resident, tenant or special friend to attend. So, what is the big deal about that you ask? There is a language school that offers ridiculously priced English classe for local Paisa females (only) and after the class thye are invited to attend the BBQ for free to practice their English with the Spanish students and gringo guests. It looks like it will be a standing room only class....wonder who thought up this idea....he he.
The roof top terrace is also available for private functions, parties, reunions, birthdays, bachelor parties or whatever, Monday-Sat.
We are also teaching Spanish dancing at the school so while in town, you may want to learn a little salsa for your partying nights.
Stop by and have a cup of coffee and say hello when you are in town or join us for our Sunday BBQ's beginning on November 9th.
Hope Hombre doesn't mind me posting this but I though you guys might like to know, especially about the BBQ!
Address is in Parque lleras and you can see how to get there on the site.

Sandman as you know I went to the Grand Opening and I must say I was very impressed. You guys did a great job on the executive offices and Rooftop Terrace. Can't wait to go on Sundays and see all the Paisas. - Thanks Hemp

whoa! sounds great!
By Sandman on Sunday, November 02, 2008 - 08:51 am: Edit |
And, before anyone asks. Of the girls attending the English Classes, probably 95% or better will be non pros.
A few local guys will be sending their GF's then joining the BBQ afterwards.
The tone of the BBQ's will in no way resemble the Mansion BBQ's (sorry, don't want the hassle)
Thanks for the kind words Hemp. Bliss, you are always welcome but it will be fun to watch you on your best behavior with non-pros?
Lastly, the language school is going to be offering some very unique 5 day classes; Spanish for Lovers and Dating based upon the popular Hot Spanish Book (no longer in publication); Basic Spanish Survival for those of you that can barely get past Hola and; Cocky and Funny Spanish so you can improve your "game" in conversations with local Paisas. So if you are going to be in Medellin for a week and can spare 2 hours per day to brush up on your Spanish (and learn how to talk to them like a local...in and out of the bedroom) get signed up and come on down;

I understand, Sandman. But then again, I am always gentlmanly with the ladies, no matter what type of work that they do.
And it has been over three years since I threw food at mealtime and that was at a business lunch. That does not count. At parties, I am better behaved than Earnest T after his behavior training from Andy.
(takes off hat) How do youuuu dooooo Misssess Wiiiiiley?(puts hat back on) See?

Another well-conceived business from Sandman--and this one you can talk about!
I can't wait to take some classes down there.
Good luck with your new venture, buddy.

Sandman I promise to behave myself but with all those beautiful Paisas around you know it will be "HARD"! Thanks for filling in Sundays now I guess we'll have to move the Hemp Hot Tub BBQ Fiestas to Saturday.
By Sandman on Sunday, November 02, 2008 - 04:57 pm: Edit |
And a welcome Saturday relief it will be buddy!
Hunterman-Thanks for the well wishes. It was really kinda funny how it came about. My partners and I were looking for office space for our businesses. We kept running into roadblock after roadblock after roadblock.
We finally found an English speaking Paisa willing to rent his building but we had to take the whole place (and it was not finished as he had run out of money). More space than we needed so, "why don't we open an executive office suite business center so others don't have to go through what we had to go through"?
The rest is history. 2 months behind schedule and 2X our original proforma cost projections, many trips to many places buying stuff but, our doors are open and we have 5 tenants in our first two weeks.
Only time will tell if we recover our investment but we have offices and are operational and at least we can make opening a business in Medellin much easier for our gringo bretheren. Almost as bad as Brasil...but not quite.
Now, you can have a business up and operational in a matter of days instead of months!

Whatta great idea Sandman, hope u don't mind if I bring my own secretary or two ? U live an esteemed life my friend...perhaps seminars on how you do it --monger+work.

Check out our Spanish for Lovers and Dating.....LOL
Yes, of course you can bring your own secretaries. The more the merrier. Maybe they might want some Sunday English lessons.....?
Whatever you decide, make sure you plan a Sunday BBQ when you are in town.
By Sandman on Sunday, November 16, 2008 - 05:46 am: Edit |
We had our first BBQ last Sunday and had about 35 people in attendance. Unfortunately, only about 9 girls but we are expecting more today.
Just need a little more marketing and we have hired someone to help with that.
Either way, the attendees raved about the food (guess our ribs may become famous.....made as only a home grown southern boy knows how to) and Rich's Paisa Punch is quickly making a name for itself.
Feel free to stop by from 3-7PM and pray that the rain gods do not desend upon us.
Salsa classes begin this Thursday from 4-6PM if anybody is interested. If you learn to dance in Medellin, you will never have a problem meeting girls in a disco,...here or any other S.A. country for that matter.

Sent you a PM. For everybody else that might have a "friend" that wants to learn some English,
Every Sunday from 1-3 PM. 2 hours of English classes for 10K (total(. Then they can attend the BBQ for free to practice what they have learned.

Great Sunday BBQ Sandman. I just love it when the Paisas come out of class and try and practice their English (works for me). I'll probably have to do some "Private Tutoring". With the promise of more Paisas next Sunday count me in. Gracias Amigo! - Hemp

It was funny. For a while, we had more chicas than gringos.
Smaller crowd because of the holiday weekend and everybody was at their fincas but a good time none the less.
Next Sunday, we plan more chicas with some special promotions to entice their participation. Lower entry price and a raffle with prizes. Should be fun. We also are planning a change in menu with some excellent pasta, salad and fresh bread.
Everyone raved about the food and Rich's Paisa Punch is becoming somewhat famous amongst the locals.
Anyone coming to Medellin for Thanksgiving weekend, throw a can of cranberry sauce and corn meal stuffing in your suitcase. We have found turkeys etc but cranberries and stuffing do not exist here. Plan a Sunday Thanksgiving BBQ!

Sandman, try to keep Hemp from doing his famous "pull my finger" routine at the gatherings. Nothing can change the "atmosphere" quicker...
Hemp, "Depends" may catch the overspray and muffle the blast but you need to get a puppy to blame the aromatics on.
Ok, ok. I guess it is a sensitive topic for me. I was on a plane a while back, having a great conversation with a smoking hot Latina. I got up to go to the restroom and at that instant, my colon called an "audible" on me. When I got back to my seat, she simply was not in a chatty mood.
On the other hand, one senior advantage is being able to use flatulence as punctuation when having a spirited conversation. There is effective communication and there is speaking with impact; now you know the difference.

Well, damn, I managed to piss off Hemp and Sandman both in only one post. Usually I am not that effective.
By Sandman on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 - 01:44 am: Edit |
Bliss,
You would have to do a lot more than this to piss me off buddy.
Actually, I can empathasize with your situation.
I once had a girl that farted while I was fucking her and she got really embarrassed. I told her not to worry, "I usually make em shit"...LOL

We started our 5 day per week 2 hour per day English classes this week. A couple of the guys GF's are attending the class. We have room for 2-3 more if anybody is interested in their novia learning some English.
PM me for details.

We are going to change the time of our weekly BBQ's this weekend from 6-11PM. Big Screen TV with Direct TV broadcast of the Superbowl and a little betting pool plus loads of food, drink and some local paisas will be there.
Join us if you are in Medellin!
BTW-The Salsa, Merengue and Porro classes are becoming very popular. Last week ater 4 classes, the guys went out dancing at Babylon. They were hurting the next day but had phones full of digits and sore feet (and legs) from dancing all night!!!

We had a great SuperBowl BBQ yesterday. For the first time in 3 weeks, we had more guys than girls (not unexpected) and lots of guys brought their GF's, wives etc.
Went through a lot of food and drink, had perfect weather, good music and was tired as hell when it was over but what does Sandman do.....goes out until 4:00AM to Palmitas dancing and drinking joined by a few of the SB partiers.
I'll try and get some photos up later.

What's your idea of good music?
1: Lawrence Welk
2: Lou Reed
3: Jethro Tull
By Sandman on Tuesday, February 03, 2009 - 06:00 am: Edit |
Well Porker,
Jethro Tull wasn't bad and Lynard Skynard was a favorite because I went to HS with all those guys (BTW-Did everyone read their Keyboard Player Billy Powell died last week). Trivia question: Anybody know where the name Lynard Skynard came from?
Actually our music was mostly salsa, merengue and cumbia with some reggaeton thrown in for fun. Gets people up dancing and keeps em happy while they are partying. Afterall, that is the purpose eh?
Paisas dancing, now that is a vision to keep you on hold while you are stuck in the US waiting for your next trip!
By Maxmojo on Tuesday, February 03, 2009 - 10:34 am: Edit |
Sandman, way to easy-he was the hated gym teacher. Skynard was the "house band" at my college watering hole, preceeded by the Allman Brothers. Now, back at ya; What was the original band name of the Allman Brothers?
By Sandman on Wednesday, February 04, 2009 - 05:51 am: Edit |
Was it the Allman Joys???
By Copperfieldkid on Wednesday, February 04, 2009 - 06:49 am: Edit |
Sandman,
sounds like your super bowl party was a big hit. Don't let Hemp have anything to do with the menu or it will end up like this.
By Maxmojo on Wednesday, February 04, 2009 - 08:36 am: Edit |
Sandman, we must have passed a few to each other (I didn't inhale LOL) back in the day. Your right about Allman Joys. Had a chance to party with Greg Allman after he split from Cher. He was living with Momma in Port Orange, and shooting stick at the Wreck Bar in DAB. House band after Skynard was Molly Hatchet. Ahh, the memories (what I can remember of them)
By Hemp on Wednesday, February 04, 2009 - 09:42 am: Edit |
CFK - I love Mac & Cheese but I like the Paisas even more! - I think I just might have "both" now for lunch while sitting in the Hot Tub. Enjoy that Big Mac in Gringaland buddy. - Hemp
By Bwana_dik on Wednesday, February 04, 2009 - 04:54 pm: Edit |
Saw the Allman Joys playing in front of Universal Studios (not AT Universal Studios) in 1968. They were free entertainment while you waited to buy tickets. I stayed out front while my friends went in and watched them for about an hour. Duane Allman's playing blew me away.
Porker-
I'm a Lou Reed fan if you remove his "Metal Machine Music" phase. Also enjoy Jethro Tull when they avoid getting too slick (first 4 albums were good, and preferred Mick Abram's guitar to MArtin Barre's).
By Blissman on Wednesday, February 04, 2009 - 08:57 pm: Edit |
The band immediately before the Allman Brothers band was the Hourglass. Before that some of the members of Allman Brothers Band were in Allman Joys.
The hourglass, with legendary session and porkchop circuit man Bill Connel on drums, had a few top forty hits.
If you want more history of these groups and perhaps a few pix of the early days, get in touch.
Dig deep online, you might be surprised who might see in photos with Chuck Leavell and some of the other mussel shoals swampers...
By Sandman on Thursday, February 05, 2009 - 06:12 am: Edit |
Max,
You may be right! When I was living in Sarasota, Greg (living in Arcadia) could frequently be seen in Ssta bars on the weekends. Still had the long hair and frequently wearing a rebel hat.
He was so well known by the locals and such a frequent visitor, nobody ever bothered him for autographs and other crap. I bought him a beer one night and he stopped by on his way out to thank me. Nice enough guy and very laid back!
Damn Bliss-You never cease to amaze me. Maybe the board can throw some challenges your way that will keep the brain cells hoppin until you can get back to Rio!

Is that akin to asking a Brit if they have 4th of July and they look at you and say, "absolutely not"!!! Then you look at them and say, "does your calendar go from July 3rd to July 5th??"
Believe it or not, I've had some say yes while others catch it and snicker!

Thanks for the thought, Sandman, my brain cells generally are hopping, it is just that they are not jumping a linear manner.
But if you have questions, I would be happy to answer. I am shorting out due to my halftimers affliction (half the time I do not know what the fuck I am talking about)but during the fleeting lucid moments I am happy to share what I know.
My work, comparatively, requires virtually no memory or organization.
So, by all means, hit me with a few questions. Music history in my corner of the world is largely just keeping up with what is going on in my neighborhood. I just never realized that it would be of interest to anyone on this board. And if it is not, humor me.

Well, we had our first Rain at a Sunday BBQ last week. We offered to move it inside but everybody just huddled together under our tents and roof areas (I think they like the closeness....LOL).
Anyway, not a soul left because of the rain and a bunch went out to Charles De Gaule in Envigado to go dancing afterwards. Rain didn't hurt their take on the booze and food either.
Every Sunday, 3-7. Look forward to seing you there. Ratio of M-F is staying pretty balanced although for 2 weeks we had more chicas than hombres. Poor guys had to cope with it!!!!
