Trichomoniasis Anyone?

ClubHombre.com: -Men's Health-: Trichomoniasis Anyone?

Well most of us know about gonorrhea and chlamydia. But having recently come down with some symptoms and getting back negative tests for both, I ran across another STD, namely Trichomoniasis. http://www.cdc.gov/std/trichomonas/default.htm.

I'm wondering whether any of you have had it (or for the doctors out there, can provide any further information about it, in addition to what the CDC says)? It seems to have some of the same symptoms as chlamydia, and I am wondering why a urologist I recently went to failed to raise it as a possibility for what I am presently experiencing (chlamydia-like symptoms). Without going into details, I know chlamydia tests are not 100 percent accurate but I am virtually certain (for a few reasons) I don't have chlamydia.

So for any of those who know about this apparently prevalent but less well-known STD, please fill us in on what we need to know.

The expert goberment nurse practitioners at the local county SDT clinic routinely preemptively dose me with Flagyl in addition to the "other stuff", based on the fact I honestly tell them what I do and,,, I have "symptoms". One time when they failed to preemptively dose me with Flagyl, it solve the "problem" on the return after the first line solution failed.

I suspect this issue is particularly prevalent in Indonesia, more so than other venues. Based on personal anecdotal evidence. I don't know why,,, but I suspect that is the case. Not a major issue in AC. Not an issue at all in Thailand, BIG issue in Indonesia??????

Try Flagyl. the only downside to Flagyl is you can't drink booze for 24 hours.

Well, at the clinic (in the USA) where I used to work at we routinely tested for gonorrhea, chlamydia and trichomonas. Let's just say that a positive trichomonas was not unusual.

Usually is women who got tested, we advised them to tell their partners to test or be treated. Men often do not show sign infections for a while. The stuff can hang in your urethra or seed your prostate.

Flagyl (generic metronidazole) can take care of it, the best way to treat it is 500mg twice a day for 7 days. Doing a one time 2gr dose once is an alternative but is only 80% effective. And yes...no alcohol at least 24 hours after finishing treatment or you will have a disulfiram like reaction (nausea, vomiting) you will most decidedly not like.

Thanks for the responses. I have one more question for the experts, and that is how they test for this? Will it be missed by a simple urinalysis and also a urine culture test, both of which I had with negative results? (I suspect the answer is "yes," but please let me know).

Incidentally, I went ahead with the metronidazole. Unfortunately, did so before I read Concarne's response and therefore went with the 2 gram dose, which seems to be helping so far, but it is too early to really know.

Since my last posts, I found what appears to be a very helpful website on Trichomoniasis, which includes answers to the questions I posed immediately above. If you are interested in learning about yet another common STD (which I did not even know about previously), try this link, which seems to have more info than the CDC link:
