<ah-hem> Methinks you ought to look a bit further back in the archives there Nostrodamus. I suggest you start somewhere around May 29, 2003.

Do you mean the prediction that WILKINSON would put out a 5-blade razor? Everyone knows Wilkinson doesn't have the R&D budget or skills to do anything of the sort. I wouldn't even call that a credible prediction. Sheeeessshhhh.

Okay, I'm going to make another prediction. Schick will put out a nine-blade razor (count them, nine blades) before Murasaki gets around to fulfilling his promise to test and report on the Schick four-blade razor. I think you can take this one to the bank.

By Murasaki on Thursday, September 15, 2005 - 10:37 pm:  Edit

Now did I actually make a promise? Or did I just put a vague statement out there? Can't remember, and I'm too damn lazy to go look. LAG, would you look that up for me?

By Laguy on Friday, September 16, 2005 - 05:59 am:  Edit

Murasaki: I don't have to look it up. I clearly remember the promise as though it were made yesterday as well as the pain (you know, razor burn, nicks and cuts, etc.) your failure to follow through has caused all of us.

Gee, yesterday at Costco I almost bought the new Gillette electro-razor, which apparently electrically stimulates the hairs so they stick up better (Hmmm--stick up better--will that work elsewhere?). I was already buying the new Turbo blades for the first time, and didn't think it reasonable to buy yet another razor. But I will next time, as I see we need a research report here.

Everyone her keeps going on about razor blade shaves. I have a Norelco Rechargeable triple header that has a couple of different setting for the country you may be in and it works great. If I find I need a quick shave I whip it out and in a few minutes my face is as smooth as a babys bottom no muss no fuss I love it.

RT here. With a testimonial.

I saw the post about greatrazors.com a few months back and splurged. I am a satisfied customer. I don't understand all of the details, but the blades seem to last 2-3 times longer than the normal Mach 3s I buy.

I will purchase from them again.

From a January post in this tread:

quote:

5) Get your blades for the Gillette Mach 3 Turbo from www.greatrazors.com. These are cryogenically tempered and stay sharper longer and last longer than normal Mach 3 blades. They also don't chip. You'll get many more good shaves out of these blades than if they are not cryogenically tempered.

I can echo the endorsement of the greatrazors.com source. My Mach 3 blades stay sharper longer. Even more important, go back through the archives and read the descriptions of the Art of Shaving products. I purchased a starter kit for $38 and with the pre-shave oil, shaving brush, and shaving twice, once with the grain and once against, I have been getting shaves that are a marked improvement from my previous efforts day after day.

I have got to ask......I purchased blades from great razor for my mach 3. they look exactly like the blades I am currently buying only more money. how do i know anything different has been done????

also, if you read the fine print at the website it states, to use hot water on your face, let your shaving cream soften the beard for a few minutes prior to shaving and this will prolong the life of the blade. is that the secret????

RT here. I had the same concerns, but then I realized that I hadnīt changed a blade in three weeks, and I didnīt follow any of the tips, except shaving after showering, not before.

Usually, I get a week out of a Mach3

Well, I am no longer going to wait for M's review of the Schick Quatro (Who wants yesterday's papers?), having just finished my second shave with the just off the presses Gillette Fusion (five blades plus one), battery powered model. I have to say the Fusion beats the Mach 3 hands down for a close shave, and additionally has a single blade located away from the other five for trimming those hard to reach places, like just under the nose. For those of you who are still looking for a shaver that does the job, you may want to join the Fusion Club. Beardos need not apply.

RT here. Well, I finally broke down and ordered shaving oil from http://www.truegentlemen.com .

The bottle was $26, including shipping for less than 2 ounces of the stuff. I figured that I only had one face and bought the Lavender Essential Oil.

It smells very nice, and doesn't have much of an 'oily' feeling. It seems to make shaving easier as well. I rub it into my face before I put on the shave cream. But $26...

One day, I was out of town and didn't bring the oil. I stopped at a Dollar Store and got their baby oil (12 oz. for $1). The baby oil is oilier, and it doesn't smell as nice (no smell at all), but it did just as good a job.

I realize that I am trading off some of the therapeutic skin care benefits that the expensive stuff promises, but at $1 for a year's supply vs. $26 for a tiny little bit, I'm sticking with the baby oil.

Review: Gillette Fusion

When travelling I usually go for good quality disposable razors. However, a few weeks ago I happened upon the 5-blade Fusion. I thought three blades was overkill, but later discovered I got an excellent shave from such a system, so I was a bit curious about additional blades. I passed over the four-blade razor and went for the Fusion.

The package includes a tray to store the razor. While it holds the device securely, keeping the blade protected, it is unnecessarily large (perhaps twice as large as needed). A bit bulky if you're planning to travel extra light.

The handle of the razor is very comfortable and easy to control. It rolls nicely between your fingertips.

One particularly nice feature about the Fusion -- and what sold me on the product -- is it's sixth blade. Yup, that's right, five wasn't enough so they installed one more blade. This one is located on the top edge of the razor and acts like a trimmer. Useful for getting an exact edge for your sideburns or moustache. A very clever idea and, for some guys, well worth the price of the razor for this feature alone.

Ever the scientist, I decided to give the thing a fair test. I used the Fusion on one side of my face and my ol' disposable on the other for two weeks.

Conclusion: no significant difference in the closeness of shave.

That being said, I found the Fusion a much more pleasant shaving experience. There's something about five blades that makes it feel like you're sliding anything but a razor over your face. This is true whether you're shaving with or against the grain.

Will I repeat with this razor? You bet!

Quick follow up on the Fusion. It's been three years of regular use and I've yet to find a better shave (short of a straight razor in the hands of a skilled Thai babe). The blades for this sucker are expensive, but the good news is that you don't have to change them very often. I doubt I've changed mine more than once a month (more likely every six weeks). Mind you, I'm only shaving half my face, but with other razors I was changing the blade once a week.

Try "Body Groom". Its available at your local CVS drug store for $39.95. It works just like an electric razor only its designed to be run right over your ball sack. Yes, I know, you're skeptical. I was too but a player friend of mine swears by this product and so I bought one. Its fucking GREAT. No, cutting, no blades, rub it right up against the skin, no knicks. Stand in the shower and shave dry, NO WATER!. Get yourself nice and smooth and rinse away those nasty pubes in the shower. Once a week is plenty. Trust me.
