The one disease I am most worried about catching in a foreign country is Hepatitis. How is it transmitted? Is French kissing a risk?
Thanks again dudes,

You can find more than you want to know by doing a google.com search.. Then start your series of shots for vaccine to prevent 2 of the types..

You can catch one type from eating in a restaurant where careless food handlers neglect to wash their hands after returning from the restroom..

I've had the shots..

Thanks Altogringo....I guess I was a little premature with my question. There is more than enough info regarding this disease on the web. I am thinking about getting the A y B combo vaccine shots from my doctor. I am planning on doing mucho international travel someday and just want to be prepared ;)

Salsa,

You can get the Hep B series free from the county
health department on Rosecrans in San Diego. I think this program ends at the end of the year. It's a series of three shots.

I recently finished mine via the VA in La Jolla.
Haven't done the Hep A vaccine.

PS Both Hep B & C statistically have an extremly low transmission rate sexualy. Only 1 to 2 %.

But you don't want to be the one to draw the card.

Unfortunately still no vaccine for Hep C.

In order for the military to protect the members, and insure that antibodies are built up in the shortest period of time, Hepatitis A is a two shot series, with the second immunization being given 6-12 months after the first. Hepatitis B is a 3 shot series. The second dose is given 1 month after the first, then the third dose is given 5 months after the second (six months after the first). There are combo shots, but I'm not familiar with them, as the military doesn't use them. Dazed is correct that there is no vaccine for Hep C yet... We can only hope. If you're going the DATY route, you want to make sure that your gums are not bleeding, as this will make it easier transmit anything your "date" has contracted. This doesn't mean that you absolutely will get it, but like Dazed said, you don't want to be the one to draw the card.
