I was surprised to see some of these third world countries numbers look much better than the United States. Mainly Indonesia and the Philippines.

They don't have any blacks, and blacks seem to have the terrible luck to be susceptable to this disease (see African HIV rates)

Don't know if it's true but I read one theory in regard to Africa.. They practice anal sex as birth control and do not like lubrication.. A DRY pussy is GOOD pussy to some..
Either one of these practices would GREATLY increase the spread of HIV if it's true..

South Africa 19+%?????? That's one out of every 5 persons. And their government claims that there is no crisis in the country and refuse to distribute free medicine from drug companies. I am surprised that no one has claimed that AIDS is just a plot of the former white minority to regain control.
Cambodia has double the rate of Thailand when you would expect just the opposite considering the importance of the sex trade in the later.

This is a good tread. Do you have DR stats as well?

If they never see a doctor, how would you know? DR stats may be misleading? Yes?

If trends in South Africa continue, the whites will not be in the minority anymore in another 20 years or so.

Cuba
Population: 11,184,023 (July 2001 est.)
HIV/AIDS - adult prevalence rate: 0.03% (1999 est.)
HIV/AIDS - people living with HIV/AIDS: 1,950 (1999 est.)
HIV/AIDS - deaths: 120 (1999 est.)
"Since Cuban doctors diagnosed the first AIDS case in 1986, a total of 3,750 people have been found infected with the HIV virus. Of these, 2,923, or 78 percent, are male, and 827, or 22 percent, female."
this is from MSN: http://www.msnbc.com/news/773024.asp?0dm=C345N#BODY
Looks like the HIV/AIDS cases are increasing in Cuba although it still has the lowest percentage in all of the Americas.

Don't get fooled by statistical reports. Unfortunately, we're dealing with politics, fear, ignorance, inaccurate reporting, and many other factors which distort the statistics.
Also keep in mind that someone can be HIV positive and transmit the disease to others without ever developing symptoms with would have compelled them to seek treatment and be diagnosed with the infection. One study, in Africa, found that less than 50% of women who they discovered to be HIV positive had ever been previously tested or diagnosed.
If you are interested in the lastest statistics, and information on global awareness and treatment, go to the UN/World Health Organization website: www.unaids.org. Unfortunately, the website doesn't always work for downloading their pdf format statistics. The narrative reports are very good and were updated as of December 2001.

I realize that these are just estimates and they don't even a margin of error.
On this subject there is no way that anyone could ever get really accurate numbers.

I was unaware that Mombassa, and Nairobi were actual mongering destinations until I saw the post by Tonskie today. Anyway, both cities are in the country of Kenya, Africa.

Don't believe the Cuba statistics. Most Cubans I talked to agreed that it was a much bigger problem than the government admitted to.
