Its about time for another HIV test for myself and so I thought I might share this information with the rest of the community.

I utilize the FDA approved homeaccess HIV test and get tested every 3 months. This is not only for mongering purposes, but for my sex life back home as well.

You can usually get tested somewhere in your community for free. However, that involves time; going down to a clinic and dealing with people which can be an awkward situation. The advantage of the Home Access test is that you can do it in the privacy of your home. They will email the results to you or you can retrieve them over the phone.

When I lived in California, bareback sex seemed to be the norm. Very few asked if you ever got tested or had diseases. I even had women tell me that they preferred I didnt use a condom and to take it off. However, now that I live in the New York area, every woman demands condom use and wants to know the last time I was tested. So when I am confronted with the situation, I eagerly pull up my email stating that I am negative.

The HomeAccess test isnt the type of test that can detect antibodies immediately. Meaning you have to wait at least 3 months (and in some cases up to 6 months) for a truly accurate read.

I've used this test kit several times and have been happy with how quick, efficient and accurate it is. The cost is kinda high at over $70-80 bucks a pop, but it's one of the few FDA approved home testing kits. They have it for other STD's as well.

Just be sure to get enough of a blood sample on the blotter, otherwise, they give you an indeterminate test result which is kinda spooky. If you mess up, they'll send you another kit for a repeat test for around $25.00. Knock on wood, so far so good re: results.
