Second big study has again shown that circumcision lowers the risk of HIV transmission. The first was last year in South Africa . Showed a 60% reduction in HIV occurrence in circiumcised males.
This latest study with results just announced was in Kenya and Uganda. Showed a 53% reduction. Both were good reliable studies and showed a tremendous difference in rates of infection.

Well, I for one was disappointed with these results. To the best of my recollection, earlier studies suggested a substantially larger effect. While a 50 or 60 percent reduction in HIV transmission among circumsised males is nothing to sneeze at, it is also not a sufficiently large effect to suggest circumsised males' risks of contracting HIV are insubstantial. Of course, the chance of getting HIV through a single instance of unprotected vaginal intercourse is not high either for the circumsised or the uncircumsised, but habitual repeat offenders still have an unacceptable risk IMHO, circumsised or not.
