How much does it cost to get treated abroad for an STD? How do i stock up on STD meds like Cipro y Z-pack before i go on a trip? I dont want to ruin my trip my contracting a STD while mongering abroad and time spent in my hotel room with excruciating pain. I will be going to CTG and wanted some heads up. Maybe Medellin too. thanks!

I do not know of the costs in Columbia, I am sure someone will chime in with that... I would be shocked if it was much as basic medical service is damn cheap compared to the US.

My own experience has been catching STDs twice in the Philippines. First time it did not hit until I was home a day and I had a doctor friend write me a script for Cipro. It failed as we were both ignorant as my strain and most in that part of the world are resistant to it. Zitromax did work, but I had wasted time with the Cipro for a few days. Second time I got an injection (forget what it was at the moment) in Subic right when I got the first signs at a clinic. That worked with all symptoms gone by the end of the next day. (for comparison the the Zitromax pill, that took two full days, but the symptoms were much worse however) They did a gram stain and total bill was maybe around $25 I think.

..note, I do not know if it was Chlamydia on Gonorrhea for sure the first time as the treatment was half-assed guess work. The second time the clinic told me directly it was Gonorrhea. This just for me re-enforces that pro medical help should be sought.

IMHO, I believe it would be best to haul you ass down to the local clinic for treatment rather than self medicate if you get signs of something. I would think they would know the local bug and how to quickly kill it better than the average guy popping pills from his carry-on.

If you are staying in a hotel, any decent desk can direct you to a clinic. If you really must self treat, in the US you will need a script from a doctor to get antibiotics. No clue on online ordering.

//As an aside.. there is a post on the main Asia page now regarding some questionable info regarding an Angeles City clinic and this post is by a well regarded Hombre. Has me puzzled too BTW.

have you considered wearing a raincoat?

By Chroniclesofcl on Sunday, January 24, 2010 - 06:42 am:  Edit

even if you wear a raincoat you can still get some stds like warts y herpes! a raincoat can help prevent many stds and reduce your chances of becoming infected but there are still stds you can contract while using a condom!

You sound extremely paranoid about disease. I would advise you not to go anywhere, it's doubtful you would really enjoy yourself. You'll constantly be worried about catching something.

Sorry, I have not heard of one single instance of someone catching an STD unless the condom came off during the act........ The changes are miniscule and not worth worrying about. Also, to Cat's point if you are that parnoid about STD's - even if you consistently use condoms - then it is probably best if you stay home.

Even with Herpes - for which there is a minimal chance if the person is shedding the virus - my own experience has been that I did not catch it. I remember a few years ago I dated a girl - but I always used a coat, even so she did not insist for me to do so (She just had a lot of crazy baby talk that scared me). She later admitted to me that she had Herpes after a very heavy outbreak... Even after 6 months banging her I did not catch anything....

Agreed, rubbers don't do much for HPV or herpes. But, you will be able to spot a herpes outbreak pretty easily. If not, don't worry about herpes. As for HPV, I would assume that anyone who's banged more than a few girls - pros or civilians - probably has it. So, don't sweat that too much.

But, my earlier advice stands. If you're more worried about catching an STD with a rubber on than having fun, it's best not to even start mongering.

I know numerous guys who have gotten either or both herpes and HPV while using condoms. I can assure you it happens. Condoms reduce the chances significantly, but not completely. Condoms do a better job against gonorrhea, chlamydia and HIV.

Part of the issue is that some guys never even realize they have certain STDs. You'd think anyone who's gotten herpes would know it, but I know a guy who didn't have symptoms, and only realized he had herpes when he discovered a small sore, not accompanied by any pain. His circumstances were such that it was a near-certainty that he'd had the virus for several years before noting any symptoms.

With HPV it's frequently the case that men are asymptomatic. They have no symptoms and no idea that they have an STD. It's often harmless for them, but is less benign if they give it to a girl, since it can lead to ovarian cancer and several other significant problems for her. If it happens to be his wife he gives it to, things can get very expensive for him ;-)

HPV is VERY common....I think the majority of women (and men) have this....

By Socrates69 on Sunday, January 24, 2010 - 10:05 pm:  Edit

A study I read in JAMA stated that "The overall HPV prevalence was 26.8% (95% confidence interval [CI], 23.3%-30.9%) among US females aged 14 to 59 years (n = 1921)."

Those figures are pretty high!

By Bwana_dik on Monday, January 25, 2010 - 05:33 am:  Edit

And HPV prevalence is highest, not surprisingly, among younger women. A CDC sentinel prevalence study in 2005 found the highest rate (33%) among 14-19 year old women. Imagine what the rate is among young prostitutes...I'd frankly be surprised if you could find a puta without HPV.

It is estimated that 80 percent of all women – and 50 percent of men and women combined – will get one or more types of "genital" HPV at some point in their lives. Fortunately, in most people, the body's immune system fights off or suppresses the HPV virus before it causes problems.

With statistics like that, we all probably had or will have HPV. For the original poster, masturbation would be your alternative.

Thanks Keeper for your post, "If you are staying in a hotel, any decent desk can direct you to a clinic. If you really must self treat, in the US you will need a script from a doctor to get antibiotics. No clue on online ordering. "

I think we all kinda got off topic a bit but thats ok. the topic is "Clincs and Prices to be treated for STD abroad". We now know more about the statistics of HPV and herpes and everyones experience with the STDs. All those women are probably carrying something! So Be safe out there fellas! We all need to wrap up our wangs and have a good time. I just wanted to know where to go if i got a drip and how much its gonna cost me! hahaha But that aint gonna stop me from pursuing that colombian panocha!!!

As far as online ordering, you can get the basic antibiotics for treating gonorrhea and chlamydia from:

https://www.alldaychemist.com/index.php

Cefixime, azithromycin and ciprofloxacin are all available in generic formats from this Indian source, and they have a good reputation. They do not sell pirated generic versions of drugs like Viagra and Cialis that are still under patent protection, only generics of drugs where patents have expired.

If you buy these online, don't treat them like they're candy. Only take them if you're developing symptoms.

Their prices are MUCH lower than what you'd pay with a scrip in the US. In the US, you can only buy Suprax if you want cefixime, because other pharmas are afraid to market older drugs with modest earning potential, given the litigation risk in the US. Consequently, the consumer gets screwed.
