I echo the condolences the others offerred. To the point of your post. I always leave the name of my hotel with my daughter and my mother and when I get to LOS always e mail them with my cell phone number so I can be reached instantly in event of ANY emergency. I have nothing to hide about what I am doing and have no problem letting everyone know where I am. As your post points out, there must be some means of communicating with you when gone for extended periods.
