| It has happened to me a couple of times. Once in front of AB when I went with an amigo and the guy didn't want to give me 5 bucks back from a 10, was saying it was a 7 dollar charge. We had actually set the price with the SECOND guy in line at the border and he ended up putting us in this guy's cab. The guy backed down quickly when loud voices explained the deal we had struck. Cabbies know what the charge is, know they have no recourse, but may try to extort mas $$ if they think you are a dumb tourist if you let them. I don't mind sticking up for myself, but why put yourself in that situation if you don't have to? The second time I got shit from a cabbie was at Plaza Rio when I went with a chica from the Zona. I flipped the guy five bucks and we walked out (price was never discussed. Plaza Rio is just over a mile from the Zona -- a 5 minute ride.) He started yelling at us as we walked away and started blowing a whistle! My amiga thought it was funny, but it was not an ideal situation to be sure. My attention was on her when I got in the cab, and I was pretty much oblivious to the fact that the cabbie might try to extort us when we got out. Lesson was learned. I am not advocating an exhaustive search to find the cheapest cab, though if that's your thing, more power to you. All I am saying is it takes almost zero effort to establish with the cabbie that you know the price up front, and that it may save a hassle when you get out.
