Let me tell you a couple of strange true stories. I met a guy in TJ who has no knowledge of the internet (other than that he knows that it exists...he's from the "print only" generations). I seem to always run into this guy when I'm in TJ and we always seem to end up hanging together off and on throughout the day, buyin' each other beers and comparin' chica notes. This guy is very concerned about people knowing his identity. He says he's been stalked by women before, and it's made him leery of giving out info about himself. I gave him my home phone number (and ONLY my home phone number) and told him to let me know the next time he was gonna be down and I just might be down there too. Well, I don't here form the guy for a while, but one day in my MAIL BOX...there's a letter from the guy - with all his losing Caliente wager stubs in it, and a funny note. Now, I laughed...but then I thought how did this guy get my mailing address? It's not listed in the phione book. And I'd still like to know, but I've never asked him. And I still hang with him. Now, I realize if you want to seek somebody out you can do it, and it's easier with the internet...but here was a guy who was too paranoid to give me his phone number so I give him mine and I get mail from the guy... Second incident...I'm cruising the internet checking out some of the local escort sites, which I do frequently. However, I don't use them - 'cause I got TJ. That same day, I get a pre-recorded (i.e. like a radio commercial)message on my answering machine telling me how I oughta call so-and-so escort service ( the one I frequently check out) and try out Cindy - she's NEW! and VERY, VERY GOOD! On my answering machine! Now, how did they do that? How did an "adult service" target my home phone number? Trace back to my ISP and get my name and then look it up in the directory? Ya got me...but it happened. You bet I don't want a bunch of loco cunthounds knowing who I am or where I am. I value my private life and I want to keep it that way. If guys want to hook-up in TJ after meeting on the internet, that's their business...but the RS board experience has amply demonstrated the folly |
